Crunchy looking, but nothing beats them! The pros are: very adjustable, last a long time, simplistic, supportive. The cons are: takes a while to get them adjusted right, clunky looking, takes a while to get used to the support. The patterned foot bed actually really irritated the soles of my feet the first time I wore them out, but I've since gotten used to it. I agree with other reviewers that it helps to adjust them "too loose" around the toe to get the right fit. I fractured my 3rd metatarsal last year and since then can only wear a select few brands of shoes without it causing pain and these I can wear all day long with no pain! They are pretty crunchy looking, but the toe strap at least makes them less "ducky" than the non toe strap versions.

Nice walking shoe - I like the sandal and it has great arch support; however, it takes a while to get used to adjusting the straps. At times, even after adjusting the straps they seem to move (inch) and I found my big toes getting strangled. Throughout wearing these shoes I would have to bend down and pull the strap around my toes to relieve strangulation. If this did not happen this shoe would be perfect. The sole is very comfortable and great for wide feet. I'm willing to work with these shoes. Overall there comfortable and maybe I just have to figure out the right strap arrangement. Give them a try everyone’s feet are different.

I love my Chaco's - Great for walking without having to wear sneakers!

Problem solved! The arch support was great, the width was great (thank goodness they came in wide), the adjustability of the straps was great, but the toe straps pulled so tight while I wore them around my house to try them out, my big toes felt like they were being squeezed off. I sent an email to Chaco asking what I could do about it, and here's the response I received (with a few minor edits): "A few customers have had this similar toe tightening problem since we started treating our webbing with nik wax, which keeps the straps from sticking to the sole and foot bed during the combining process, making the straps slip easier. "We found that applying Simple Green, which is a household degreaser that you can purchase at the local grocery store, will remove the nik wax. Pull the straps to get them out of adjustment, apply the Simple Green to the straps, rub it in, let them sit for about 15 minutes, then toss them in the washing machine and let them air dry while the straps are still out of adjustment. After the straps are totally dry, adjust them loosely to your feet and the problem is solved. "One other observation we found was that some people have tightened the straps too tight to begin with, then any movement of your feet moves the straps and gives the choking effect." I followed the directions, and the problem was indeed solved. It may seem like a lot of trouble, but having sandals that felt good to my difficult-to-fit feet was worth it. Thank you, Chaco! A footnote (pardon the pun): The heel straps seemed a bit loose, so I asked Chaco what I could do about that, too. I was told that they will shorten the heel straps at no cost (other than paying for the postage to send the sandals to Chaco - they'll pay the return postage). However, I was also told that the heel straps are supposed to be loose enough to fit a finger in between them and the heel, which is about how they are now. I'll see how that works out before I decide to have them shortened.

Nothing but good things to say. First off, I placed this order one evening and received it the very next day. Talk about speed of service! I bought these in preparation for a trip with lots of walking, and so far, they are both cute and comfortable.

Wonderful!! If you are looking for a great shoe that is comfortable, cute, versatile, durable, and with great arch support, I highly recommend Chaco’s. Great hiking shoe - It takes a while to figure out how to adjust the bands for a snug fit, without cutting off circulation to your big toe! Overall, a great shoe.

I loved so much about this shoe, but I couldn't get use to the waffle texture on the footbed. I had a hard time getting the straps adjusted but I finally did but the footbed was not comfortable to me.

I've had these shoes for a few years. I wear a size 9 1/2 and ordered a 10- they fit perfectly. I have long toes and flat feet. The shoes are supportive, but heavy but the arch rubs my flat arch and it starts to hurt if I walk more than a mile. Still great for boating and other water sports though. I wish Chaco made these with a softer footbed and lighter material.

Love the Chaco sandals but I didn't find these as comfortable as my Chaco Vibram Yampa - theses were a bit more rugged in the footbed and sole. I kept them and wear them but my go to's are my Yampa's.

This is a great shoe. The straps are much more adjustable than they look. The foot bed is very contoured with a lot of arch support. It might even be too much arch support for some people. The toe is perfect for folks who have wide, long toes like me. There was lots of room. I have a narrow heel, but the adjustable straps made sure that wasn't a problem. They felt very comfortable on, until I realized the middle of my foot was over the edge of the shoe just a little bit on the outside. I had to walk around in them a bit to realize this. I felt some pressure there, and realize I was walking on the edge of the shoe. If it wasn't for that I'd rate them 5 stars for comfort.

I want to update my critical review. I finally figured out my hip pain was due to my mattress. The newer Chacos aren't as supportive so I felt pain when wearing them. Sort of a chicken and egg situation. I still prefer the texture, density and design of the footbed of my original pair. I'd give those all 5's. Chaco's are still an awesome design so I give the newer versions 4's. Hopefully they'll come out with a 'classic' version like the originals for those of us who need more support and prefer the grippier, rubbery texture instead of the plasticky texture of the newer versions.

I’ve wanted a pair of these for ages, but couldn’t justify spending the money on them, since they’re pricey for a web canvas sandal. But I finally got them and I’m glad I did. I do have some issues with them right out of the box. Namely, the strap is too long (I have very narrow feet, so I’m sure that someone with a more normally proportioned foot would have less of an issue or no issue at all) and has to be tucked into the back of the sandal to keep it from dragging on the ground (I can’t see paying $10 to have Chaco shorten the straps; I may eventually shorten them myself, though) and the place where the straps meet on my ankles rub. That’s undoubtedly an issue that’ll go away once they’re broken in. I’ve had the same thing happen with other shoes before, so I’m not worried about it. On the plus side, I like how adjustable these sandals are. Everything fits nice and snug and secure, so I don’t have to worry about my shoes slipping off of flopping around on my skinny feet. The insole is going to take a little getting used to since it has a very pronounced arch, which I’m not used to (it’s been quite a while since I last wore the Birkenstocks that I bought these Chacos to replace), but that shouldn’t be an issue, either. All in all, these are great, sturdy shoes that seem to be built to last. And I love the look of them on my feet.

Little tight on the toe. I don't know if this is because I have a weird foot (never been a problem before), but the toe seems to tighten as you wear these, so by the end of the day it is VERY tight on your big toe. Other than that, really like them. I would consider the Unaweep without the toe strap.

Great shoe! Great arch support and good adjustability (the video on the Chaco’s website helps). I normally wear an 8 but had to send those back and get a 7. Good customer service there...I called Zappos and was told the regular Chaco "flips" were sized smaller than the more heavy duty models like I wanted. This proved to be true. I can wear these all day right out of the box.

Chaco Sport Sandal - Great, great shoe. Exactly what I was looking for - something I can wear all day in comfort. They are very sporty looking like you might be kayaking though I do wear them with dresses and skirts. Very comfy (I wore them right away for long walks in the city, but I got a blister by the little toe of one foot. I might have adjusted the straps wrong because I readjusted and it seems better. Comes in wide.

Just one thing... I really like them. The only problem is the adjustable straps. When I am walking, it tightens up on my big toe and ultimately I have to stop and adjust it so it doesn't hurt.

Purchased Chacos with high hopes. I work 12 hour shifts and needed a tough and trendy summer work sandal. My only complaint is the toe loop is really tight and chokes my big toes. I have had these Chacos for a few weeks and they still have not loosened up in the toe area. I rotate them with my good old Tevas. I would recommend the Chacos if you have thin toes. Other than that, they are very well cushioned and do not rub on my foot.

Nice - Overall, very comfortable. It's taking me a little while to get used to the toe strap. I'm used to thong sandals, but the way this is made, it holds your toe down somewhat. I wouldn't start wearing this all day without getting used to it first. It's easier to get on and off than it looks.

Comfort and style, but not for the skinny footed - I have seen many pairs of Chaco's on the feet of those around me, but decided to take the plunge and purchase some myself. The shoes are exceedingly comfortable, practical, and good looking (in my humble opinion). I took them with me for a weekend of walking, walking, and more walking in Chicago and found them to be incredibly comfortable. My only complaint is that when I put the shoes on and adjust the straps accordingly, I end up with an inch of strap length that hangs off my shoes and drags on the ground. I'm reluctant to cut off the extra, as I need it when loosening the straps to get my shoes off at night. Otherwise I am entirely pleased with the shoes and, of course, with Zappos!

River-worthy - I just bought these to wear in a river and they were great. Very comfortable. I did get a lot of rocks stuck in between my foot and the shoe, but they were pretty easy to shake out of there. I would only ever wear these for river-going or camping or something.

Chaco Unaweep Z/2 in Basil - This shoe looks great and is very comfy. It took me a little while to figure out how to adjust the straps to fit my foot properly, but now I've got it down. I've never worn a "wide" shoe before, but when I tried this shoe on in a store in the medium width it was too narrow for me. They told me it would take 2 weeks to get the shoe in stock in a wide size, so I Zappo'ed that afternoon and got my shoes the next day! So if you even think you might need a wider fit, order the wide!! The shoes are very durable and easy to clean.

The sandals are very sturdy and adjustable as advertised. I have a wide foot so I purchased this particular style because it came in wide widths. I had worn Keens for the past four years and was completely satisfied with the fit and durability. I gave the Chacos a try because I felt they looked less like a sport shoe and more like a sandal. After several weeks of wearing and adjusting, the Chacos are not nearly as comfortable as the Keens. I find that when I am sitting for long periods of time, my feet swell and the straps pinch until I loosen them. Then when I am up and walking again, I need to tighten the straps because they are too loose. I do prefer the look of the Chacos, but I will purchase Keens again in the future.

Update to previous review - I wrote a review of this shoe on 5/9/07. I want to update it because I'm still having the problem with the toe straps getting too tight while I walked. Chaco had suggested a solution, which I included in my review, and it seemed at first that it worked, but the straps are tightening up again. I'll contact Chaco again about what to do next.

Not quite what I expected - I love the way they look. However, the arch support is not quite where I thought it would be. I am used to wearing Dansko clogs most of the time and the arch support is in a slightly different place. However, even though they are not quite what I was looking for I think I will keep them.
