These are well made, comfortable shoes. I plan on wearing them into the cold weather with wool socks. The leather footbed does not cause your foot to smell. I normally wear a 9-1/2 to 10 depending on the shoe. In the Birkie I wear a size 40 and it fits fine.

Love Berkshire! Only complaint is the leather on this style is stiff. It seems to be softening though with use.

I love these sandals. The trick is to wear them on short trips for the first few times you wear them. They are not awe inspiring out of the box, the beauty of these sandals is realized after you have had them for awhile. Also, you can get these resoled and avoid the breaking in of another pair. These sandals will last a long time if you take care of them. I had the normal footbed kind for eight years and wore them as an everyday shoe for about half of those years. I switched to the soft footbed because of plantar fasciitis.

I've always liked the concept of these sturdy well-made and down-to-earth shoes but could never wear them because the foot bed was too hard. So I was delighted to see them offered with a soft footbed -- now they are perfect for me. Regarding the sizing, I fit both the 39 and 40 to some degree. The 39 was a tiny bit short I thought it might work. The 40 seemed a bit too big at first but was more ultimately more comfortable and the best choice. I have a pair of Naots I had for years that are much like the Birkenstocks without this heel strap. After trying on some Naots I found they no longer seem to be as well made as they once were, so I'm very pleased to have found the soft footbed Birkies.

This was our purchase from Zappos that was beyond compare. We tried two types of closed toe shoes, I have wide toes, narrow heel with wide toe base area....The closed toe shoes just didn't fit...With Zappos, no problem! They exchanged the shoes 3 times until we got it right with the Birkenstocks! I am beyond impressed. My family used to HAVE to shop at Nordstrom for my feet, because they were the only store that would exchange shoes after short use, guarantee them for their lives. I have found a new replacement for Nordstroms for my shoes, thank you so much!

My husband really likes Birkenstock sandals. He has flat feet and his feet get sore...Birks are so comfortable for him. I would prefer he got a darker color but he seems happy enough with them as is. He has wide feet and the 40's fit his 9 wide fine.

I have long loved these Birkenstocks and am delighted to purchase them again following a seven year Birkenstocks break. After a bout of plantar fasciitis, I switched to Danskos for a bit. Now that I am healed, I am happy to be heeled again in Milanos! The back strap is an enhancement though not needed to keep the shoe on; Birkenstocks tend to run a size larger than the norm; I am usually an American 9, a Dansko 40, and a Birkenstock 39 is perfect. These sandals are really great at helping to keep bare sweaty feet dry, and are equally a boon in the fall and winter months with socks. I like to wear wild-colored socks with them like the mismatched Solmate socks from the Sock Lady. These Birkenstock Milanos are so comfortable! I love them!

The strap over the toes was too short. Also the shoe was too wide. It was supposed to be narrow. This shoe was for my husband.

These brought me right back to the summer of '94. I felt transported back to a hot and humid day standing in a Pennsylvania field watching Phish. They fit just like I remembered. I definitely value the softness and fit way more now though! You cannot go wrong with these.

I absolutely love these sandals and have worn this model happily for 20 years. Important note: these sandals run large. I always order 1 size down (i.e.; instead of my normal size 37, I order size 36).

These are very comfortable. Also attractive. Got them faster than I would have from a local dealer in Birkies.

I bought these for square dancing, no kidding! The back strap keeps these perfect-support shoes snugly on my feet the whole evening -- love them!

Bought these shoes in normal size and had to return for a size smaller. Shoes are very comfortable. Break in period was only 2 days for them to be fully comfortable. Only complaint is that the leather strap on the back is starting to stretch out after daily wear of about 3 weeks. I guess I'll have to punch in another hole in the strap to remedy that.

I have been wearing the traditional Nirkenstocks for 20 years and decided this time to try the soft footbed. It is taking time for me to get used to it but I do like the combination of support and cushion. This is an ideal shoe for anyone that has not worn regular Birk shoes before.

I've been wearing Birks for over 15 years and my two feet agree that they're the most comfortable footwear out there. Quality is super-high, as usual. However, this is my first pair with the soft footbed. The footbed offers nice cushioning but I'll probably stick to the standard footbed next time. Feel free to question my 5 Star-rating for style. I think people either love or hate these sandals.

Received my lovely, most comfortable satisfying excellent sandal in the world. The sandal is made of the utmost quality. The price is a bit steep, but it's well worth purchasing and you will have them for years. Five stars.

Finally, I have found the right shoes for my hard to fit feet. This is a great shoe! These are my first Birkenstocks and they are very comfortable. I was concerned about the cost, because I am on a tight budget...but I can plainly see they are worth their cost based on support alone. The soft footbed is really nice. They are very well made, and cute on my feet too. I am a 9.5 in US sizing and the 41 fit me better than the 40. Nice shoes, I am hoping these will help keep my feet healthy (recovering from terrible plantar fascia. Also, my feet tend to swell and there is plenty of room in these with the adjustable straps, thank goodness).

I bought this product based on the glowing reviews. Unfortunately the horizontal strap near my ankle cut into my left foot until I had to bandage the area. The situation has improved now that my foot is developing calluses.

The back strap on these is a little hard to put on. Not sure if I would buy this style again. They are comfortable and the color is nice, though not as burnished as the photo indicated. All my other Birks rock, though, so I will chalk these up to experience.

This is my first pair of Birkenstock sandals and I love them. They feel extremely comfortable even after wearing them for hours. The arch support is fantastic as this is really the only pair of sandals that i've had that I can say that about.

The sandals fit good and are comfortable. I have foot pain in my left forefoot and most shoes or sandals hurt my foot, these don't. I'm looking forward to my foot eventually molding in the cork bottom for maximum comfort!

Nice sandals. I bought them based on friends who recommended them for being long lasting and conforming to their individual foot shape. So far they are breaking in nicely, and hopefully won't be breaking down soon.

I was looking for a pair of comfortable, secure sandals that I could stand in all day, and these fit the bill. I stand at work, so comfort is critical in footwear, and my old Tevas weren't cutting it. Note that it took a couple of days to break in the shoes, but now I wear them everywhere.

European sizes - European sizes always run wider. If you wear an A or AA, Birkenstocks narrow is still too wide.

To be returned - These are great shoes but my husband does not like the strap around the back. We will try and exchange them for slip ons.
