Since trying these sandals, the edges of the leather straps have been cutting into my toes, causing some nasty bleeding cuts and several bruises. I didn’t abandon them and I am keeping them on as long as I can, to “break them in”. Does Zappos have any way to prevent the edges of the straps from performing podiatric surgery on my toes? And where do we go from here?

These were the first pair of Birkenstock sandals that actually fit buying my regular size 44. However, when trying them on the front strap was so abrasive against my foot there was no way I could keep these sandals. I will be going to a Birkenstock store to check out the same sandal and see if I have the same problem. If I don't have the problem and the sandal fits right then I know it is Zappos. I am not convinced that Zappos selection of Birkenstock sandals are not irregulars or seconds based on the fact I tried 6 different pair.

My only complaint was they did not come in the original box and had been worn by someone else long enough to have toe prints on them

I own a number of Birk sandals. Normally, I would give a 5-Star review, in this case 2 stars is a bit generous. This particular pair did not fit like any of my other pairs--I've lived in Birks for more than 40 years. The footbed was the same as my other pairs; but, the straps were shorter. Having a wide foot, the straps were not long enough to even be buckled. Unfortunately; as much as I liked their appearance (I have an oiled leather pair in brown), be warned if your foot is wide. Not sure if this lot or pair, is just an anomoly.

Fit and sizing is classic Birkenstock, and the soft footbed allows for perfect out-of-the-box comfort. The leather is gorgeous: a beautiful dark brown with a reddish overtone, which I think will age beautifully. My only issue (and the reason I'm returning) is the edge of the strap over the toes is so stiff and sharp that it digs into my toes when I walk. It's borderline unbearable. If I were standing still it would be fine, but I plan to walk while wearing these. :) Sadly returning.

I was hoping Birks with a soft footbed would fill my bill for arch support, but no. In fact, I can't understand why they advertise these as soft footbeds!

The fit was good however the toe strap across the toe was very stiff and hurt so I am returning them. I bought way too many pairs of shoes that I hoped would soften and stop hurting.

I ordered this shoe in both black and tan leather, and like all my soft footbed Birks, the footbed is so comfortable. However, the leather top on these is torture. It was painful just trying on. I'm sending them back. The leather is really hard and the edges are sharp. I'm sure they could be broken in, but I don't feel like shredding my feet over it. Size wise, I wear an 8.5 (a little on the wide side) and I ordered 39 Narrows, and they fit great with plenty of width and without looking too wide.

Arizona not up to expectations - Length and width of the footbed are appropriate. Had to punch an extra hole in each strap to get them to fit. Arch support is very high. Not a comfortable shoe, especially at the price.

I have worn (and loved!) Birkenstocks for years, but this pair was incredibly uncomfortable from the start. 1. The rough inside edges of the straps are rubbing against the top of my feet and I can just tell they will cause problems if I walk around in them. 2. The leather looks very fake, and I have had several other pairs of the oiled leather that looked completely different. 3. The fact that they weren't even shipped in a Birkenstock bag. When I pay $150 for a pair of sandals I expect a box. Unfortunately these are being returned.

The shoes are sizing larger than expected. One size bigger.

I do not want to purchase shoes. I paid $130 for to come throwing in a brown box. They are not even in the original shoebox.

I was sent a fake pair. No idea how this happened since they are an authorized Birk retailer…

I received ONE shoe and was charged $145. Please do better Zappos

These came in a plastic bag rather than a Birkenstock box -- which immediately made me suspect that they had been used and they had. There were toe and heel marks in the footbed. And something had been spilled on the leather strap of the rt sandal.

There used and pretty dirty, not what I want to put on my feet...

Didn't try them on.. I bought them for mothers day gift..They sent the wrong pair of shoes.. So I returned them for my refund..

My first pair of birks lasted 20 years. The second pair lasted 5 years. This pair has lasted 5 MONTHS. The sole is almost completely down to the cork on one foot and the other is getting close. Apparently Birkenstock has opted for cheap materials and low quality manufacturing in search of the almighty buck. How unfortunate. Guess what I won't be buying again?

These shoes do not compare to the Birkenstock sandals of the past. My feet ached after wearing them shopping. They are like walking on a board. I am very disappointed that these once wonderful sandals are made to feel so uncomfortable.

The tobacco color representation is extremely inaccurate.
