Cool and classic. I've gotten compliments on these from all different kinds of people - kids who are intrigued by the retro look as well as adults who remember them from the first time around. They are absolutely comfortable - lots of room in the front for your toes to lay flat, yet fits snug and perfect. The materials and craftsmanship is very high quality. The only downside is that the rubber crepe sole binds to dirt like crazy. It is impossible to clean; most likely you'll end up with a permanently black sole (which looks okay believe it or not).

You really do need a pair of these! Just like the former review, I owned a brown pair in high school. They were my best pair of shoes EVER! I was thrilled to see them come back! Just got a black pair and was so excited when they arrived, fit, and were so very comfortable. I started calling friends to share my good news. When I called my dearest old friend and said "remember the shoes I loved in high school... the ones uglier than sin...?" She at once started describing them and how I wore them daily for at least three years. I'm in heaven! Many friends and my sister-in-law are all Imelda Marcos wanna-be's with their shoe collections. For me, this one pair is the "mother lode" of shoes! Thank you Zappos for the fair price and great shipping and service. When they go on sale, I'll buy the desert trek in other colors also. Bottom Line: These are the best shoes I've ever owned -- and I feel blessed to find them and own them again! You won't be disappointed by these shoes. The crepe sole is lightweight, the leather soft and supple. If you want a quality pair of shoes -- THIS IS IT!

Best shoes ever! I had a couple of pairs of Clarks Treks in highschool, and was delighted that Clarks has started making them again! 'Just bought a pair of new ones a month ago, and they are still comfortable beyond belief, cute, and well made! I love them, and would recommend these shoes to anyone who wants something different that looks great with a pair of jeans and feels great on!

I love my new Clarks. Super comfy (aside from occasional discomfort from the seam down the center under where the laces tie) and they aren't what everyone is wearing. Even better (and somewhat mysteriously), they showed up less than 24 hours after I ordered them. Go, Zappos!

On my second pair of Dessert Trek after taking the first ones on a trek around the world. The rubber soles thin out with increased mileage. Happy to find them at Zappos after a Clark's store clerk erroneously told me they no longer make them in women's. They are super comfortable after a two-week breaking-in period, during which the topline and center stitch conform to the feet. The sheen of the beeswax leather makes the casual look just a tad more dressy. Along with the understated cool center stitch detail, these shoes reward you a few extra style points regardless of the rags you wear.
