Watch your size!!
Love desert boots and bless you zappos for having them available. If you've not owned these guys before watch your size. I wear US 11 1/2 - 12 but wear a 10 1/2 desert boot. They stretch out with wear so a bit tight to start but then they ease in just right. Perfect for all your modern action needs.

Blast from the Past...
I had worn Clark's Wallabees while working overseas in the '80s and loved the fit and comfort. As a kid I had worn 'chukka' boots with jeans in the '60s. So when I spied the desert boots from Clarks I naturally decided to take the plunge. Unfortunately, either my memory or my feet have changed considerably over time. These are well made (as all Clarks are) shoes with the classic look that goes with jeans or kakhi pants. But the comfort is not the reason to buy them. The gum sole is in fact the only saving grace - as it provides some measure of spring in your step but not much. In this day of high-tech, track-shoe insoles, Clarks needs to seriously consider revamping (no pun intended) the insides to give better support and comfort. Other than this, the shoe is true to the boots I remember!

Feels a little cramped compared to other 10 1/2 sizes but it's okay. I love the shoe and get comments all the time.

Wear them loosely -
Great looking boot, but the first few times I wore them, the top of my foot got sore. This is because the laces only cross once, meaning only one point of contact with the foot. The also don't lace up very high. However, if you wear them very loosely... presto! Very comfortable. Takes a little getting used to, but worth the effort.

Big Pimpin in this smart Desert Boot -
Laurence of Arabia move over, there is something meaner. You will be keeping your pimp hand strong in these stylish and practical suede chukkas. From a weekend in the country, to a night in the city, this shoe does it all. Give this shoe a few wearings to break in. You will note some slight stiffness/rubbing in the top our your foot the first time you try them on.

Hot Diggity Dog -
Wore them all through High School 405 years ago. Still feel the same. Very comfortable but be careful on slippery surfaces. Great look and wonderful feel all over. Feels larger than marked size but I remembered to order 1/2 size down from what I usually wear.

A timeless classic -
This boot was worn by British troops in the North African desert campaigns of WW 2.
I remember wearing out a few pairs during my high school days in the 70's. (I think Steve McQueen was partial to these boots.)
It's a decent boot for use in dry weather . Needs a liitle breaking in though to be truly comfortable.

Chuka Boot -
These are the most comfortable shoes money can buy. Hard to find, but worth the wait. The only draw-back is these shoes only come in Medium width. However, if you've ever owned a pair of original Clark's desert boots, you know that they stretch over time. I am so glad I found these shoes after more than 30 years.

Good Guy Boots -
Comfort is very important, I gave them 4 stars because they dont come for wider feet and If you are in this category you will feel some discomfort until they expand. Then there's a little problem with the sole. I'll be honest with you, I really dont know what is made of, but it looks and feel like a rubber band so they dont have any traction. Maybe thats why they call them desert boots. Made for warm weathers. In summary you have to be a pasive and easygoing guy to wear this shoes because they are not meant for trouble makers. They will look great with boot cuts or rodeo jeans. Very fashionable. I love mines.

Personal favorite, however...
I love these boots, I just wished they weren't so slippery and had arch support. I would slip on any concrete that was wet and I had no traction on sand. My arches were always sore at the end of the day. Clarks probably puts something addictive into their boots cause I currently own 2 pair and want to replace them with 2 more since the souls wear out so fast. Help my addiction please...

Could Clark's still be 'Tops'?
I had my doubts. But yes, The Desert Boot is still one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. The real test of a comfortable shoe is when you put it on you forget about it almost immediately. It's not tight or restricting circulation, like most new shoes. These Clark's passed the test!

I've had these shoes for a little over a year now. I liked them at first, but I don't think I'll replace them with the same shoe. New ones are necessary, as the soles are now a gummy mess. It almost seems as though they've melted a bit, and I stick to things if I stay in one spot too long.
The upper part of the shoe is very comfortable. The soft leather is very soft. While gentle on the foot, though, it has resulted in a collapse midway up the wall of the shoe. It's like the top tier of a layered cake that's too heavy and is sinking into the bottom layer. Mmm, cake...
Another odd thing about this shoe is that it seems as though the toe doesn't point up at all. The result is that I frequently catch the front part of my shoe on the ground and trip-hop like a moron. Perhaps I shuffle too much, and this shoe just makes me aware of it. Really, though I'd rather change my shoe than change myself.

I'm a little disappointed. The shoes are comfortable and fit well, but they look a little bland compared to the photo. The leather is very smooth and black, so unless you cuff your pants you look like you're wearing galoshes or firefighter boots or something. I tried adding red laces to give it a little more visual interest, but that hasn't seemed to work either.

This is a great looking shoe, and once broken in, it's super comfortable. My major qualm is that the rubber soles wear through relatively quickly rendering the shoe leaky and unwearable. This is based on wearing daily for about 8 months so perhaps that's natural, but I have not had this problem with other shoes worn for similar or longer durations.

Very Sad!
I love Clarks Wallabees and I have been wearing just one pair for the last 2 years and it still looks great and feels comfortable. I thought I would try the Desert Boot to switch it up and I was VERY disappointed. The shoe was very uncomfortable and my feet felt cold in them. The back of my heel began to hurt because the shoe is so stiff and the quality of leather is nothing like it is with the Wallabee. The look of the shoe could be mistaken for a Doc Marten and I find that insulting. Stick with the Wallabee!!! Also, if you are a woman and you are buying this shoe, it really looks like a man's shoe when you wear it.

Clark's Desert Boot -
First pair of Clark's and am hoping that the legendary comfort will come as the shoes break in over time. I was disappointed by their initial comfort. It's been several weeks now of lots of wear and 2-3 block dog walking excurstions are pretty comfortable now. I also had to get pretty aggressive with waterproofing and cleaning treatments. Any liquid contact stains this shoe's light suede color. Wish I had gone for a darker color for sure.

Clarks narrowed -
The desert boot is a clasic from the 50s. This version is close to my memory. There were two flaws. One minor and one major. First the minor. The shoe string is a very thin flat one that will wear out fast. I will replace it soon with the original one that is round. The second problem is that the width under the ball of the foot is too narrow. I bought these boots for the comfort provided by the soft upper. It is not a medium. The shoe will stretch out and I started out with no socks and increased the sock thickness until the uppers conformed to my foot.
Overall I would buy again.

Eh -
I was really excited to get these boots, owing to how much I like my Wallabees and also because they're so classic and cool...plus most of the reviews on here said these were quite comfortable. As for myself, I can't agree with the comfort factor at all. They're rather constricting, which is strange because I don't have a wide foot. Plus they seriously need to be broken in before they're finished being painful to wear, and what's worse is that they seem to hold serious amounts of heat. My feet were sweating terribly after just a few minutes of walking. Thy look really cool, so I guess I'll wear them for the looks, but for comfort I'd say look elsewear.

This review is for the desert boot in olive suede. The color in real life is VERY different from what is shown online. They are not a brownish olive as shown on the website. They are a greyish green, which you could guess from the color name, but not from the picture shown

I really like this shoe in the store I bought it in. Went home feeling excited to wear them to work. Simply put, they were too big. The size said 11, but it felt like a 11.5. The leather was extremely tough and irritating on the ankle. They are also extremely loud, like a squeaky door, as you rock back and forth.
I wore them several times hoping something would change, mainly because I liked the look so much. However, the comfort was not there and I returned them to the store.
Wish they would have worked out for me like some of these others.

I really love the look of these shoes as they remind me of years gone by! Unfortunately they are for younger feet! I am 50 and I found them to be way to flat and unsupported, even after buying inserts for them I had to stop wearing them. Also the suede looks dingy pretty quickly, especially if they encounter water. If you can get a leather surface that's better.

Lovely -
Wonderful looking shoe, but absolutely no cushion in the heel, the heel feels like heck, you would think with all the technology today they could do something about, how about just make the whole shoe flat like the front, which feels fine and knock off that sorry excuse for a heel they have on there, I need to find something that looks similar but feels superior!! :(

Clark's Desert Boot Not As I Remember -
I purchased the boots with the expectation that they would provide a comfortable casual shoe. Instead I found the quality and workmanship not as I remember, but rather of the quality usually reserved for mass-produced shoes in discount stores. Needless to say I will be returning the shoe.

Absolutely disastrous. I had a pair of these in college and was excited to have another. Tried them on in the apartment, felt great. Wore them to the office. I take the subway, I sit at a desk all day. Look down in the afternoon of *the very first day* to see the right sole is splitting in two from the toe. ON THE VERY FIRST DAY. Sending back.

I have owned three pairs of Clarks desert boots, all of them have come apart at the seams between the leather upper and sole. The first time I thought it may be a fluke, the second time I started getting suspicious, the third time I knew something was up and returned them since they were coming apart within a month of getting them. I do tend to fold my legs under me when I sit which puts lateral pressure on the shoe, but I do this with all of my shoes and these Clarks are the only ones that have broken on me. I have some shoes that I've had for 8 years that are in better looking shape than my remaining pair of Clarks dessert boots (pair two). I've also managed to break the shoelaces on them twice, something I've never done with other laces. Clarks did replace those for free though, which was nice.
