Customer Reviews Birkenstock Boston Soft Footbed - Suede (Unisex)

I gave these five stars because of the comfort, but this is the 3rd pair I have to send back because the black suede has, what appears to be machine-made markings on the tops of both shoes. Zappos customer service is superb but Birkenstock needs to be made aware that this is not a normal variation in the leather. The shoes are being damaged during manufacturing. I hate to send them back, but the "spots" look like beacons on the tops of the shoes and when you pay for new shoes you want them to look new.

I was suffering with plantar fasciitis for a few years - doing all the right things - supportive shoes, physical therapy, heel cups, etc...Someone recommended Birkenstocks - I've never looked back. Spring, summer, winter, fall - I own every style. And I will not purchase from anywhere but Zappos - if the size is incorrect for some reason I send them right back & I have the correct ones at my house in 2 days - no waiting. the customer service is unbeatable!

These shoes are incredibly comfortable! I have worn birkenstocks for years, but this is the first time I've purchased ones with the soft footbed. They were well worth it. I would definitely recommend these shoes to anyone looking for a very comfortable, casual shoe.

I've been wearing this style in mocha suede for about 4 years. They are still structurally sound but are now rather scuffed up and a little too "Birky" looking for me. I love the comfort and support and finally ordered a new pair in the black amalfi leather, same size. They fit just like the old pair and were every bit as comfy right out of the box. I will still wear the old pair around the house, but the new ones look much more civilized.

After trying a couple of other styles/brands of slip-ons, I ordered the Birkenstock Bostons (black suede, very sharp!). The third try was a charm (and many thanks to Zappos for their excellent return policy with free shipping which allowed me to find a style/size that worked)! I followed other reviewers advice on sizing, as I've never worn Birkenstocks (I resisted because everyone was wearing them...and now I know why - VERY comfortable!): Normally a size 6, regular width, I ordered the size 36 (women's 5-5.5) narrow width in the Birkenstocks. A perfect fit right out of the box, but I like that I can adjust the feel across the top of my foot with the strap's buckle. A little pricey, but I'm glad I gave these a try, as this has become my favorite shoe.

I thought for sure these would be a slam dunk. I had a pair years ago that I wore the soles right off of. Maybe it's the soft foot bed but these hurt my feet so bad I couldn't wear them. Wore them around the house to try them out and after a bit my feet hurt and I had to take them off. Tried again the next day and just putting my foot in them made my heels instantly hurt. Sadly had to return.

Simply said, these are great sandals. Pricy, but worth every penny. You will get years of wear out of them. And they get even better with time. One man's opinion, but always go with the soft foot bed. Night and day difference. Cannot go wrong with birks.

For the price of this shoe it should be easier to wear from the begining not so hard on the feet to break in.Soft bed is not all that soft or cushy.

These shoes are great! I was able to tighten them with the buckle to make them fit more snugly. They are comfortable!

Only for folks with wide feet!

I love them, I've had different Birkenstock styles and typically bought a regular width the Boston fits me better in a narrow..

I absolutely love these shoes! I have wanted a pair for awhile and finally bought them. I did also purchase the Birkenstock Care Kit and treated them first before wearing them. These shoes are comfortable right out of the box and I expect they will get even better with wear. Also, they look pretty cute!

I bought my first pair of Birkenstocks last year - I bought the Mayeri women's sandal for a trip to Italy. After walking 5+ miles a day, with amazing support and comfort, I was totally converted! I recently got a standing desk at work and needed something with good support, but that I could also wear around the office. The Bostons were perfect. I can easily slip out of my dress shoes and into the Boston's when I am at my standing desk and in my office, then I slip my dress shoes back on when I need to go to meetings. Since these are unisex, I needed to go with the narrow width. But other than that they were true to size. I plan on getting a pear of Boston Shearlings to wear as slippers around the house. If they work this good at my standing desk, they will be perfect for standing in the kitchen.

My 35-year old navy Boston's are still going strong, but I wanted to have a soft footbed version as well, and chose black this time around. They are fabulous, and my new everyday shoe for cooler weather or when I'm in a cooking frenzy (to protect my toes from spills AND enjoy the soft support for long stretches on my feet). I was especially pleased to note that the new shoe and my "vintage" pair are identical in size, feel, etc. except, of course, for the cushier soft footbed. It's great to know Birkenstock is not tinkering with a proven classic, and is adhering to the design and manufacturing standards that have earned them the loyalty of their ever-expanding customer base...those who value comfort and quality over ephemeral & frivolous fashion statements.

The Boston soft footbeds fit like other soft footbed Birks -- same length but slightly narrower than the hard footbed. That's great for me because I wear a AA, and I don't need two pairs of socks with the "narrow" Bostons. (I need two pairs with my narrow hard footbeds. I can tighten the straps on Arizonas for no socks.) I am wearing my Bostons as clogs around the house. They keep my feet warm on my uncarpeted floors, and they are wonderful for standing in the kitchen. These are quite attractive for Birks, and I like how the brown suede looks. I look forward to wearing them.

I really liked this shoe but it didn't stay put on my foot like the Arizona does--maybe because I could tighten the strap more on the Arizona. Any way, it's going back.

Birkenstocks were the only shoes that would accomodate my quickly-swelling feet when I was pregnant and now, 6 months post-partum, I just can't quit them. Seriously, every day and get ready for work and think, "I'll wear nice shoes today," but before I get out the door I have changed into my Birks. These are my cold-weather shoes and I the Gizehs are my summer shoes. Lucky for me, comfort, hippie shoes are in style right now so all my students think they are the cutest.

I ordered a 39N and a 40N since I wear a 8.5M or a 9N in most shoes. The 9 was the correct length, but even though the shoe was marked narrow, it was very wide on my forefoot. I cinched it up and buckled it at the narrowest setting, but that caused the snap on the other side of the strap that runs across the top of the foot to dig into the inside of my foot. Too wide, so they're going back. The footbed was quite comfy, but they were a bit clunky looking, as clogs can be, especially if flats.

I bought the Boston Soft Foot-bed black suede. I have a pair of the regular Boston's in the same color and fabric, but they are not the soft foot-bed and are over 20 years old. I am an RN & have been wearing Birkenstock for my entire 35 year career. They have served me well, and after long hours on my feet, I go home without any foot pain, bunions, or other foot abnormalities. My feet are very wide, so this time I ordered the regular width. I wear a size 7 to 7 1/2 shoe so I bought the 38 regular. They were perfect and super comfortable right out of the box. I wore them all day, and am now wearing them as slippers. I find that the suede Birkenstock's are the most comfortable & don't need as much "breaking in" time. The leather ones tend to be very stiff & take a long time to soften. I'll most likely order another pair of these in a different color.

After 15 years of owning & loving a pair of Arizonas by Birkenstock ~ I finally ordered a new pair! Love them, but I also noticed these Boston closed toe ones. I decided to give them a try. I ordered my usual size 38 narrow & I'm in love with them!! Perfect for cooler temps. I hate socks so I wear them barefoot. When it's really cold out I wear Uggs. It's Fall here now in NJ & this Boston pair is perfect. They are super comfortable. Very light weight. I bought them in the Taupe color~ matches everything. If you're a Birkenstock fan~ you'll love these too. Yes people may think they're ugly~ I get teased enough by my family, but Birkenstock is my number one shoe to reach for. I just love the comfort, the quality & the "simpleness" of the shoe. I highly recommend this Boston pair & for open toe~ the Arizona. Both pairs in 38 narrow fit me perfectly. Happy walking~ enjoy!!

First pair of Birks and they won't be my last. I have a high arch and wide feet and these fit like a glove. Good quality and well made.
