Great look so so fit -
These shoes look great have lots of flexibility with the velcro closure on strap and an extra on the heel strap. However, the inner construction where the insole meets the outer portion of the shoe rubs. Also the other reviews raved about it as a walking shoe--it really does not offer enough support for anything but a short walk.

Surprisingly NOT comfy for a pricey shoe -
I was excited to get these shoes since the reviews were all glowing and I was looking for something cute and comfortable for an upcoming Europe trip. They are very cute, but very uncomfortable on my feet. They were quite stiff and the heel velcro needed to be cinched way up to keep my heel from popping up. Also, I found the arch supports to be minimal and even with an orthotic, the shoes still didn't feel good. I am returning these and will be able to buy two pairs of Keens for the cost of this one.

Not as good as a Keen -
I expected more arch support, given the price of this shoe. They are comfy (with added arch support) and cute though - the camo is quite neutral. I'll stick with keens with higher arch support, although they are getting harder and harder to find.

Kinda cool.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered them, but I've ended up liking these brown plaid(!) sneaker-ish shoes. They're not as comfortable as real running shoes, but they look more stylish (in a strange way) and they're comfortable enough for kicking around town. I have chronically complaining feet, so the fact that these work at all is saying a lot for the comfort of these Niros. Try them for a more interesting alternative to sneakers and see what you think.

Cute, but not so comfy...
These either run small or the style is just not comfortable. Even with the strap, it felt too hard on my heel and was rubbing. Had to send them back. For the price, not very impressed with this shoe.
Thank you Zappos for putting up with my return's without ever asking any questions and crediting my account so prompty. Your service is the best ever.

Love these shoes--just wish they weren't so wide -
I was looking for the perfect shoe for my recent trip to Ecuador and also for walking my dog everyday. I wanted an alternative to sneakers that could look cute paired with a skirt, and something that kept my feet cool on really hot days but that gave me good support. I'd had my eye on the Allrounders for a while. They're perfect for all my criteria. They're much slimmer-looking and sleeker than other shoes of this style and I love the color choices. However, they are very wide. I don't have a particularly narrow foot. It's more often I have the opposite problem--shoes are too narrow for me. But, even with inserts, these shoes are quite wide. I tighten the straps as much as I can, but I've turned my ankle over a few times in these. They're great for walking on flat city pavement, but I'm not going to be able to use them for much else.

Disappointed -
I had bought these shoes to use for a European trip and wanted great comfort with some style. I was unsure if I wanted to pay the price of these shoes but closed my eyes and jumped given the customer testimonials saying they were the best shoes ever. I loved them when they came out of the box. But the fit was never right. I have somewhat wide feet and if anything shoes are usually tight on me. These felt much too wide and I could never tighten the Velcro Strap enough to prevent my heel from slipping out. (Not a problem I have ever had) The back comes up very high and I ended up putting inserts into them in order to get my foot into a better position. I could thus never appreciate the support of the shoe since I had the insert in place.

Not as comfortable as I'd hoped-
The shoe felt great in the store, but they didn't have enough support for me to use as a serious walking shoe. My foot slipped around and the extreme sole flexibility made walking on uneven surfaces uncomfortable. I ended up buying custom insoles, which helped. I did like the two straps and in particular, the heel strap. These were my second pair of Mephisto shoes, and neither was as comfortable for me as for others.

Big price, short strap-
These shoes would have been in my closet except for the design flaw. The flaw being that the strap is too short to cover the velcro on the base which doesn't look right and makes the shoe stick to many materials on sofas, pants, skirts and such. Hmmm...

If you have wide feet, be very very careful about this shoe -
This shoe has a great look, and feel very unique on. The sole almost feels like it is massaging the feet during wear.
HOWEVER....after three weeks of walking back & forth to work (50 minutes each way), my feet REALLY hurt. The big toe and ball of the foot below the big toe feel like they have been squished in towards the other toes. I have to pry the big toe away from the others each evening and massage and pull to get them feeling normal again (I don't wear the shoes any longer). I just called Mephisto and they asked if I have wide feet. I said I do. They said that is why I have the pain: the stylish look makes the shoe narrower than their others, and even though they did not feel too narrow at all, obviously they were. Funny thing is that it did take a while for this all to happen...must have been happening a bit every day and I didn't notice it until it had reached this stage. Mephisto say it is not their responsibility to advise retailers about this...

I bought this shoe specifically to wear with a low "footie" rather than a full sock. I chose the style because I wanted to pair it with skorts or capris or other outfits where tennis shoes look too weird. But, there was no way for me to wear this shoe without a sock because the leather tab on the back rubs relentlessly on the back of my ankle. This was regardless of how I tried to adjust the heel strap. Very disappointing. The shoe runs larger than the size (longer and wider), and the insoles were terribly flat. For this price point and style I would expect an upgraded insole. I am returning these.

I was looking for a light weight option to a good tennis shoe for comfort walking. These did work for me, unfortunately. They weren't comfortable for my feet.

These shoes are not Mephisto, but one of their brands called Allrounder. The shoes had no arch support and were a good size too big.

I've owned Mephisto's before and found what great quality is like and they offered to resole. The Niro, being comfortable and fits my orthotic insert it is NOT the quality I expected from Mephisto. The suede rubbed off far too soon. The shoe bed is nothing but cardboard. They are a very stylish shoe and I've received many compliments, however, the quality is lacking, and the price does not justify the lasting non quality.

These shoes are very uncomfortable around the ankle and they are far less attractive on the foot than one would think from the photo.

I was really excited to try out this shoe, but was unfortunately disappointed. It was not nearly as attractive as the photo, it actually looked a little goofy (perhaps the blue color just didn't work). It was also quite loose, even with the adjustable band. The cushioning on the sole was also not very soft. Sadly, I had to return them and am on the search again.

SO very disappointing. I wore out my first pair of these that I got in 2008. Then they lowered the arch even more so I couldn't buy any more. Decided to try this time because they are no longer on the manufacturer's website--HOPING it was better. It was EVEN WORSE! All going back. So sad that manufacturers do not know people have actual ARCHES.

I thought I would love this shoe...but I didn't! I usually wear a size eight but had to go up a half size and it was much too big. The shoe didn't feel soft and comfortable on my foot. It is pricey, but this shoe is not worthy of the price. The style is great...thought I could wear it with Capri pants or leggings but...no. Returning them.

I have this same shoe from 2009, which I wear all the time. It had some arch; I add cushions to make it work.
THIS PAIR has NO ARCH at all! I am shocked. I will no longer be able to order these online; I will have to go back to trying on shoes endlessly to fit my high arch--such a shame; I'll take my old pair to Europe and stop telling everyone I meet to buy this model.

This shoe was an enormous disappointment to me. I took it on a two-week trip to Italy, planning to alternate it with a pair of Go-Lites. I ended up using the Mephistos as "in-air slippers" while the Go-Lites did all the hard work. The big problem was that the sole is HARD! And the amount of cushion is inadequate for long term comfort. The Mary Jane style offers no control for the toe area which means that there is slipping of the forefoot inside the shoe. Walking down an incline, your foot jams to the front of the shoe. The Mary Jane style is not good for rain (obviously) and it does allow in rocks, dirt, etc. The velcro sticks to socks. As a minor complaint, but still an annoyance, the threads of the fabric components started to shred and it began to look like I was wearing a cheap pair of shoes that was falling apart. I got these shoes on super-duper sale and thank goodness too because if I had paid full price I would have been VERY ANGRY. I'm really questioning why this brand costs so much and the answer that is provided elsewhere on this website is pretty lame and uninformative. If you must have Mephistos, I noticed that most major cities in Italy have a Mephistos store. Maybe they're cheaper in Europe? I didn't check. This won't be my brand.

I'm going on vacation in August and I'm looking for the perfect walking shoe--something that can handle both urban walking and light hiking. I want something that looks stylish and not like a pair of trainers or hiking boots. I'd heard good things about Mephistos and was really looking forward to my new shoes.\ They are very stylish and well-made, but that's where the good news ends. The edge of the shoe rubbed against my heel. No ammount of adjusting the straps kept it from rubbing. The shoes fit well otherwise, so it wasn't a case of a bad fit. I like a lot of arch support, and after reading reviews, I expected these shoes to have a lot of support. I didn't find that. I actually found the insoles to be quite flat--nicely cushioned, but without much support. The soles are very stiff, very little flex. I found the shoes awkward when walking up stairs because they had so little flex. This lack of flex in the sole made me feel unstable when walking, so I can't imagine being comfortable hiking up any hills in these shoes. They're nice shoes and many people love them. Maybe my feet are just weird. But they don't work for me, so my search for the perfect walking/light hiking/stylish shoe continues.

I've never had a foot odor problem until these shoes. They make your feet sweat. They are pretty comfortable, just need to wear them with socks.

Disappointed -
I was so excited to try these shoes. I thought that because they were so expensive then surely they must be comfortable - wrong. The trim where the fabrics meet all around the ankle was incredibly stiff and scratchy! These can only be worn with thick socks or your skin may be rubbed raw. Too bad since I had planned to wear these as a walking shoe either without socks or with a footie.

I really wanted these to work. They are just the type of shoe I have been looking for - something that would give my foot support but not be too hot. Well, they have NO support. I mean nothing! For the price of the shoe, I found that very disappointing. They seemed very cheaply made and low quality.
