Hannel -
I have a narrow foot and I ordered these in narrow. Out of all the others they came the closest to the fit. Still a little wide but the footbed is heaven.

none as good as Mephisto

Not Everything I Had Hoped For -
I've been a fan of Mephisto's Helen sandal for years. I've trekked all over Mexico for months in the Helen sandals...hard, uneven cobblestone streets with no pain and no sores for over 2 months. I've owned Helen sandals for 7 years.
Then, I decided that I wanted another Mephisto sandal that I could wear with socks for cooler weather. So I ordered the Hannel because it has the Helen footbed.
I like them, but I definitely do NOT love them. They are taking quite a bit of time to get broken in...Or perhaps they just will never be as comfortable as the Helen sandal. The leather keeps pinching/rubbing my little toe and the ball/toe footbed seems to be a bit narrow for my feet. The narrow footbed keeps forcing my toes together when I walk causing red spots. That is, my toes are not allowed to spread with each stride.
But, I have not given up on these sandals yet...I've been wearing them for about 3 weeks. I've tried socks with them...still some discomfort, but not exorbitant.
The arch support is excellent. And the heel cushion is excellent.
The silver buckles are a bit ugly to me; but not worrisome enough to not purchase this sandal.
Overall, a nice sandal, but not Mephisto's best.

Not true white -
I ordered a pair of these in white, but the shoe is actually two-toned in color. The footbed is white, but the upper leather straps are not pure white - more like an off-white sand color.

Hannel: “MAGIC” shoe, or foe?
Zappos company is the best!! These comment sections are helpful. The first "Hannel" sandal I purchased is a little too long, but I endured thinking I would break it in. Instead, it hurt the metatarsal area of my foot because the arch isn't in the correct position (most likely). I think it is because the shoe is too long. So I ordered the "Hannel" sandal one size smaller. It seems to be okay, although I haven't yet broken it in. I'll try one more time and let you know. This is however a superior shoe for most people. Two of my friends think this "Hannel" has a "Magic" foot-bed. I would agree and will tell you after I try the correct size. I can sense the potential. I don't recommend getting it too large because one's arch could be in the wrong position. That would cause pain and defeat the purpose of this unusual shoe. I am waiting for the "Magic" to hit. Meanwhile my foot still hurts from having a size too large. Also, if the shoe is too large the arch will feel like a "lump" under the foot. The right size will feel right in the arch, I think.

Mephisto Hannel Sandal -
This sandal is very expensive for its comfort level. However, it looks great on, and goes well with everything without looking "sloppy".
The fit is good, although the footbed of this sandal is not as comfortable as it should have been! Mephisto is a good company for design & durability.
Note of size: Mephisto size 40 is indicated as a US size 10. I do not wear a size 10 in any shoe but this company's...I am a true size 9M.

The sandals did not arrive in a Mephistos box, but a plain generic one. They felt stiff snd am skeptical that they may be knock-offs.

I loved the style, but the fit was too small. I ordered size 38, the size recommended for a women's 8, but it was a full size too small. Additionally the upper strap was still loose after tightening it to the last hole. They're cute though!

Very comfy foot bed but the straps hit right above my bunion which caused it to stick out. Although that was comfortable, it was not attractive. I have long toes so as a rule I like sandals with straps that are closer to my toes. If you don't have these issues, it's a quality sandal.

heel was a little too high for me and threw my back forward. footed is fairly comfortable with some cushion but arch support is minimal for my narrow feet and straps aren't supportive enough. for a thicker foot they'd probably be very nice

These were way too big on me. Why is there so much variation between the same size (36 or 37 among different brands)? That makes it so difficult shoe shopping by mail this way. Thank goodness for Zappo's generous shipping policy!!

this is one of my favorite brands. This shoe just didn't work for me. It didn't fit my foot right and the strap irritated my toe. Had to return

I have been wearing Mephisto Helen's for over a decade. I wanted something a little dressy that didn't have a toe hold. However, I found myself feeling insecure without that little toe hold. The Hannel's are beautiful and very comfy. Just not for me. I ordered another pair of Helen's instead. :)

This was the first time I had ordered the Hannel . I usually purchase my 'go to' sandal 'Helen.' The style is beautiful/great colors. I just didn't feel it provided enough
support to wear for hours at a time. Wish Mephisto would make more sandals with heel straps. Otherwise a great looking shoe!

I have six Mephisto sandals, bought over the years: two black for different occasions, two tan, also for different occasions, and two brown leather pairs, the second bought because I was afraid the style would disappear, and so it did. So this sandal was a HUGE disappointment; it needs a heel strap, the bed was stiff and the leather too rough for the skin of my feet. Sorry.

I thought these would feel more like the Helen but they just weren't very comfortable--they didn't feel like they were going to stay on my feet when I walked. Disappointing,

I have worn these for several years same size in different colors but these don't feel as comfortable, they are wider and not as cushioned. Adjusting the straps didn't help. I love the color!!! But need the cushion and width to keep them.

I have high arches and insteps. My go-tos are Birkenstocks because of their excellent arch support...they just fit and support my feet well. That being said, I periodically try other manufacturers' shoes to see if something else works for me. When I first tried on these Mephisto Hannels, I was pleased with how nice they looked on my feet. The straps are softer, and the fit and finish just look more feminine than Birkenstocks. When I walked in them around my living room, I noticed that the heel cup didn't feel as deep as my Birkenstocks. Not a deal breaker, but because of it, my foot felt less stable in the Hannels. I kept them on while walking from room to room, and began to notice that one of my ankles started to hurt. I didn't think a whole lot about it because it was time for bed. The next day my ankle wasn't hurting anymore, so I tried switching from my Birkenstocks to the Hannels again. As I walked around the house again in the Hannels, the pain in my ankle returned. So, they had to go back. Thank you Zappos for your truly exceptional customer service! We genuinely appreciate it and will always support your business because of the way you have treated us all these years.

nice arch support, but leather straps are still and would become rub sores if worn for the day. The suede strapped sandals ae much more comfortable.

Bought my first pair around 15 years ago. They've held together nicely over the years but have "hardened up" so wanted a new more comfortable pair. Sadly the quality is not the same. The leather is lighter weight and thinner and stretched out after a few months of steady wear. The cork bed is not quite as thick and doesn't provide the same level of arch support. Still a decent sandal but sad to see the quality slip.

Disappointing. Have ordered Mephistos for more than 10 years and these did not fit as well as anticipated, wider than usual and the strap at toe was too wide to fit through the buckle to tighten. Bring back the Elka style! The leather is thinner than previous styles. Much cheaper construction for a big price.

I purchased this sandal in the gold cobra a year ago. They are extremely comfortable, but I've been disappointed in how the leather has worn. Soft leather which stretches and conforms to the foot is a good thing, but this leather has stretched so much it feels weakened, with cracks and ragged areas. I haven't worn them that much! Maybe the solid leathers are sturdier. So I have to say, that at this price point I am disappointed in the quality of the upper. In spite of the comfort and general good looks, I have to drop the rating to a 3.

I purchased this shoe and loved the feel of it. It was the most comfortable shoe I had ever owned up until that point. It eliminated much of my foot pain that I had previously been experiencing for years. I wore the shoes for several months and was very happy. However, after only about 3 or 4 months of wearing the shoe, the sole cracked right between the two front straps on both shoes. If you look carefully at this particular design, there is a stress point between the two front straps and, I have learned, that it has broken for several people at that same point. The manufacturer refunded my money and I purchased a different style, which has no problems. So, bottom line, I loved the shoe, but there is a design defect in it.
