These are not the Purcell's everyone loves! Very cheap new design! Will not buy these shoes again until they bring back the quality. So disappointed!

I had several pairs of Jack Purcells back in the 60's, they were a much better shoe back then. Now their like a bare deck shoe.

Here's the deal: I've been a Jack Purcell girl for a long time. However, I've put up with a lot as far as quality and sizing go. Sometimes they are true to size, sometimes they are smaller than they should be, and they fall apart quickly. The back inside heel part has been a consistent issue of rubbing completely out within a few months, the rubber coming apart, etc. I love how they look brand new but anymore, there seems to be a lack in quality control when they make them (don't get me started on how the Chuck Taylors practically disintegrate). I am a city girl, using these to tool around town on my bike, and hang out, and at this price for a simple shoe that I have to replace almost yearly? No more. I've found a fantastic - and more comfortable - replacement in the Adidas "Honey" skate shoe. Similar in style and way more comfy. The quality is just plain better.

Jack Purcell - The service provided was excellent. My son loves the shoes but unfortunately they cut into his heel. He cannot wear them until the blister heals. His friend told him that if they are washed in the washer it softens the shoe. Have you had other complaints?

I have had this pair of shoes for about a month now, and I do not even wear them everyday, but the mid-sole of my left shoe is already separated from the main part of the shoe. Also the parts of the insoles near the toes are very uncomfortable; they hurt my toes every time I walk. I thought the pain would go away when the shoes are finally broken in, but it's been a while, and nothing changes. These shoes look nice, but that can't compensate for the bad quality and discomfort going along with them. Please think twice before you spend so much on these.

I just have to echo the other reviews that have mentioned the unfortunate changes. These used to be the most comfortable shoes, but no longer. As others have said, they feel cheaper and considerably less comfortable. I have been so disappointed in the new ones that I gave up on them (after almost a decade of consecutive purchases) until I found a five-year old pair in my closet. I put those on and was amazed at how much more comfortable than the new version. This isn't just a fear a of change, it is a totally inferior product. What a bummer, converse really ruined my favorite shoes.

Very disappointed. These ARE NOT the Jack Purcell we remember from our youth. Made in Malaysia was my first hint. Canvas is cheap. Fit if off. No padding at all. While I don't care as much about the "smile" on the front of the shoe, it is much cheaper feeling than the old indented "smile" was. Maybe a run through the washing machine will help. Save your $$ and find an older pair on line.

What happened do the JP converse sneaker? The tongue is no longer padded, the heel more rigid, the eyelets dropped down, in general they feel cheaper and are less comfortable. I'm not sure why they were changed but it is sad.

I am very disappointed. My 10 year old daughter had them approximately one month and the inside padding/liner pulled up from the inside making them very uncomfortable. Also the bottom of the sneakers wore out very quickly. I would not buy these sneakers again!

Buyers beware! I love Zappos and I love their excellent customer service. However, the black color is no longer manufactured as pictured on the website. (1) The Jack Purcell stitched insignia on the tongue is missing, (2) the laces seem cheaper, and (3) the heel is baby blue like the white and navy versions. This may not be a big deal but I think the photos should be updated to indicate the changes. I returned the first pair I ordered due to what I though was a manufacturing defect. Of course Zappos amazing customer service representatives had the new pair shipped to me immediately. The second pair arrived today with the same appearance missing all three of the aforementioned details. I’m slightly disappointed at the manufacturer and hope that Zappos will update the photos for future customers.

These shoes are cool-looking, very understated. They go great with slim fitting jeans and are a welcome change from the typical Chucks. The "smile" cut-out on the toe cap adds a hint of quirkiness or whimsy, which is fun. While these shoes look cool, mine wore out very quickly. The Purcell tag on the back fell off, the glue holding the sole and toe cap together dried out, the soles wore super thin. All of that in maybe 4 months of daily wear with moderate walking.

Such a bummer. Used to be a great shoe and has just taken a nosedive into the dungheap. Very shittily made and almost comically uncomfortable. Thanks for nothing, Jack.

Very sad about the jack purcell design, i have been a jack purcell wearer for 15+ years. I was looking to replace a pair that are 4ish years old. This pair style and design has been changed in such a way that the shoe looks much cheaper. The front white part is wider with a raised area that has a look and feel of sub par craftsman ship. Additionally the sides have a very white thick band where the metal holes are in both the white and black section of the foot. Just awful look on, they took a preppy looking shoe and made it garbage.

Wow. My first thought upon opening the box was: Zappos has sent me counterfeit Jack Purcells. What was Converse thinking? They've got a product that has been selling for almost 100 years. Did we not learn the lessons of new Coke? Never thought I would be returning this particular shoe because of poor quality and design changes. Fail.

This used to be my "go to" shoe. They have really cut corners, so much that I am considering not wearing any longer. The other reviews are correct. The quality has gone to hell. The insole is now very inferior. The "Smile" is flush with the toe instead of being recessed. The laces used to come with metal tips, now they are plastic. The tongue used to be slightly padded, now it is just a piece of cloth. The dye is even poor quality, I stepped in a puddle of water and the blue turned Pink. And what is with the white stitching?

These are not the same Jack Purcell sneakers I have bought from Zappos in the past. This current version is cheaper and less comfortable also visually different. Please note the other reviews that bring the compromises to light.

I never write reviews, but I have 2 things to say about my experience with the "new" Jack Purcell: 1) My experience with Zappos was great. 2) This is not the same Jack Purcell as before. I had a pair of Jack Purcells that lasted me 3 years. They were the best shoes I owned. The new version is completely different and made of cheaper, weaker materials than before, but has the same price. The new pair lasted 3 months before I could literally see holes in the seams all over the top of the shoe. The tongue, which used to be padded, barely exists, and the new insole is in pieces. I'd like to think that Converse made these changes for reasons other than cutting cost, but it's hard to think of one. It's just a shame.

Sadly, I agree with the other reviewers. I mourn the loss of the old design and materials. Why did Converse take something perfect and make it cheap and uncomfortable? I ordered a black leather pair several months ago and have not been able to figure out why they are so uncomfortable. I ordered a canvas pair for summer and finally took the time to compare them to my old pair. Totally different shoe. I am sending these back and will hope that Converse might see the error of their ways. I only wish I could return the black pair too, now that I understand what is wrong with them.

Pair of every summer. Sent them back and actually found a better alternative in the Sperry Halyard Laceless (not sold on Zappos unfortunately, do a Google search) and Striker (available on Zappos) shoes. Similar functionality and style but more comfortable than even the original Jack's ever were. I definitely won t buy another pair of Jack s until the geniuses at Converse come to their senses and bring back the quality their loyal customers know and deserve.

They have completely changed these. I've been wearing this exact shoe for a million years and all of a sudden they have made them super cheap and uncomfortable. Padding is gone, eyelets are in a strange place, it's not comfortable around the ankles, etc. What a dumb decision to make these shoes crap now.

Based on the comments about small, but noticeable changes to the shoes--from the placement of eyelets and logos to the quality of materials, I'd say that someone sold Zappos a bunch of counterfeit Purcells. There's a whole counterfeit athletic shoe industry in China. Zappos should investigate their supply chain.

I had these in green for less than a year and they look like they have been worn for 10 years (actually in comparison to a pair of All Stars I've HAD for more than 10 years). Keeping in mind they have been worn only during climate-appropriate times (ie: not the winter/rain/etc.). Buy Converse All-Stars instead.

Just an FYI - this shoe runs narrow which I love but if you like a wider fit, it may not be for you, I love them, low profile and super comfy.

Replaced my 15 year old purcell’s which I wore out. While they are lighter in weight than the old ones, I kind of like that, especially cause they’re my summer no-sock sneakers. My feet are butter, and so far, these are comfy and kind to my heels and arch. The toe box is a little more narrow and while I actually like the look, that’s where I might end up with pinky toe blisters. Still happy with the price and purchase.
