Most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn in my life. I wore them to work and was bleeding through my socks by lunch.

Yet again the most painful shoe experience ever. They look great, are fantastic for polishing, but are agony to wear.

When I was twelve years old my father bought me my first pair of dress shoes and this is the pair he bought me. I'm now approaching 30 and have bought the same pair time and time again (in each color) and they have been my go-to work shoes as they look amazing with a pair of dress pants. However, I recently bought a new black pair and I am really disappointed with the quality. The heel seems to be the way in which they cut a corner as they no longer have that distinct "click-clack" sound when I walk. They also seem to be deteriorating faster as the sole is beginning to come off. Even the leather feels "cheaper." I love the way this shoe used to be made and I would have gladly paid more to get the same good-quality shoes of years past. This, however, is in an extreme disappointment. As the old adage goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Returned. Not at all impressed with the quality of leather and the excessive shine on the shoe ... most likely to hide the poor quality of the leather. For many years J & M was my 'go to' shoe; however, your decision to eliminate size 7 and 7.5 from most all of your selections and your migration to cheaper leather quality has chased me away. I have moved up to Allen Edmonds and Carmina. Both still believe those with smaller feet are worth having as customers and their quality is much better than J & M. I have made a point of sharing my thoughts with all of my friends and they have chosen to ditch J & M, as well.

I've worn Johnston & Murphy for 30+ years. Was so confident I'd love my next pair that I ordered two - a pair of black Melton Cap Toes and.a pair of burgundy Melton Cap Toes. They arrived on time. So far, so good. But then I started to lace them up. The tongue is so tight to the shoe that it is all but impossible to get the lace through the first eyelet. My hands are stained black from wrestling with the shoes. After 30 minutes, I've got one laced up and the other is sitting there staring at me. On Monday, the burgundy pair will go back in the box and be returned to Johnston & Murphy and I'doubt I'll ever buy another pair. If there's. trick to this, then I sure would appreciate somebody letting me in on the secret.

I have a pair of 8 year old Conrad Cap Toe that I love. I have had then resoled 3 times already and they are still a great shoe. I would stay with Conrad if they didn't make them cheap with a rubber sole now. I tried the Melton with a nice leather sole. After trying to break them in an stretch them I could not get past the pain above my toes where the shoe bends. When walking it feels like something is digging into your foot. The tongue of the shoe that is sewn onto the one side also make it sit weird.

Because of bunions, I ordered a large and wide size. Unfortunately the shoe cut right across my arch, causing a lot of pain

These gave me the worst blisters I've ever had in my entire life - I have blisters on my heels the size of pepperonis and also blisters on the tops of my toes and feet from only one day of wear in the office. Stay away.

The tongue is so stiff it hurts the top of the foot - unwearable. Take a lot of effort to even put shoelaces into eyes.

The tongue is attached on one side, and it made it impossible to lace up the shoe. Otherwise the look and fit was fine.

This was the most uncomfotable shoe I have ever owned . Very stiff and difficult to put on. Only reason I kept was I needed for formal event on short notice. Had to have modified to wear.

Had to buy these for a wedding and after attempting to break them in they continue to be by far one of the most uncomfortable dress shoes I've ever owned. They have also started squeaking. Would return them if I could. Truly a waste of money.

Have always chosen Johnston and murphy shoes due to the fact they fit very well and were extremely comfortable. This shoe failed miserably on all counts.

Simple. No one could possibly wear these shoes without incredible pain, caused by a rock hard, too long shoe tongue.
Looks nice in the picture... impossible to wear.

I don't know why there are imperfections where the quarter of the shoe meets the welt area. I wish I had taken some pictures before I returned the shoes. Also, the feel of the shoe isn't great; somewhat uncomfortable becasue it is so stiff.

I have owned a pair of Melton cap toes in black for almost 3 years and I love them. So I ordered the ones in brown. They came with brown stain that wasn't uniform and were full of scratches. Poor quality control
