A good looking shoe. It does not fit my foot too well. Seems to have little support, particularly in the arch. I plan to try to improve this with an orthotic.

Shoes had been worn quite a bit with scuff marks on teh side and worn souls, other than that the shoe is great just not as wide as I needed. Other variations of J&M are wider when 'x-wide', these, although 'x-wide', were I'd say a full width thinner, more like just regular wide.

The shoe is not the same quality and feel of Italian calfskin leather. It looked like. A patent leather shoe. I've purchased your dress shoes for years and the workmanship and quality is just not the same.

I do love the look of the shoe, but they are undoubtedly too tight and stiff on the foot.

I wish you offered a 4E width! After a while the shoe strings loosen when they should remain tight after they've been tied.

I am retired now. When I was working I used to wear Johnson Murphy all the time to work. In this days we had a Johnson Murphy store in Austin. I always made sure the shoe fit before I left the store. I bought this pair on line. If we still had a store in town I would never have walked out with this pair. I think I can make these shoes work for me by using oversized shoe trees and stretching the shoes to make them just a bit wider. If not I will simply throw them away or give them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. I do not like the tongue being sewn to the side of the shoe. It is very inconvenient. From past experience, this is a very good shoe.

Runs narrow. The tongue is stitched to the side, which is not good for me because I wear a full orthopedic insert.

Let me start by saying your customer service has been great so far! But the shoes are not made like they used to be made. We ended up ordering a second pair with EEE width. They still were too narrow. The pair of J&M cap toes my husband wears now is 10E and when compared against each other, the sizes differ by an obvious amount. We returned them.

Have worn this shoe for years in my corporate life and found them comfortable and versatile. However, this recent pair I purchased on sale are very stiff. The crease formed on the right shoe is digging into my big toe causing a sore spot. Am trying shoe trees to stretch the shoe top in the hopes that will stretch the crease and eliminate the discomfort. Otherwise, a good looking shoe that goes with just about everything even light blue jeans and a blazer.

The shoe is absolutely difficult to lace and get on. I have no idea why J&M thought it was a good idea to permanently attach one side of the tongue to the side of each shoe.

I’ve had other J&M shoes and loved them. First tried these one and they were a little tight and thought they might stretch but that’s not the case. These shoes absolutely feel like they are breaking your toes. Had I not worn them already they 100% would be going back. They look nice but if you can’t wear them or get them to break in who wants to look at them in the closet?

Too small and rubbing blisters on my feet. They haven't broken in and I've worn them 3 times. Same with the other pair I ordered. I love J&M shoes, all I've ever worn.

Very disappointed that the flannel cloth to shine the shoes is dirty as if someone else had this box of shoes. Never expected anything like this from Johnston and Murphy

Shoes are very hard, shoes make noise when walking, the super hard leather is stiff and uncomfortable and causes blisters. Looks like your company used to make quality shoes in the old days but quality has gone down the tubes. Look Is okay, but don't like that the tongue is stitched to the vamp. Very hard leather, and shoes come unlaced which is inconvenient.

The tongue is sewn onto one side of this shoe. This makes the tongue unflexible. As I took a step, this inflexibility caused the edge of the tongue to stab painfully into the area where my instep meets my ankle. Rather than taking the time to try and break in the shoes, I returned them.

Purchased for my husband. First they were very difficult to lace. Then, they were so narrow, he couldn’t get them on his feet. Otherwise, they are beautiful looking shoes. Unfortunately, because of fit, I has to return.

Shoes were *not* new. Sides are damaged, curl above the sole on the outside isn't even clean. The bottom sole is unscuffed, so likely these were sample shoes used for try-ons. I hate this bait and switch from zappos.

This is a follow up on my previous review. It has been about two weeks now of trying to break these shoes in at work. My left shoe has been making an air wooshing sound with every step. It is really loud and annoying. I am hoping that this goes away with break in but so far has not gotten any quieter. The heals on these shoes are super hard and loud. It sounds like I am stomping everywhere I go when not on a carpet. Actually saw and heard a couple people behind me making fun. These are way louder than I have ever heard from leather soles on anyone's dress shoes before. When I was originally measured for these shoes in the Johnston & Murphy store I was a 7 wide on my right foot and just over 6 1/2 wide on left. I had to go down to a size 6 wide (smallest they offer after returning a pair of 7 wide and then 6 1/2 wide) to somewhat fit my feet but still feel loose. These are now my primary shoes for work since my others that these replaced are officially dead. So as of right now I moved my score from a 4 out of five stars to 2 out of five. While these look nice (reason for a 2), the fit, air woosh sound, and the extremely hard heels make these shoes ones that I wish now I had not bought. This was the first time I had to get shoes through the mail to see if they fit (since store did not carry my size) and I will really fight not to do it again. Also, these were my first Johnston & Murphy shoes (store recommended by friend) and after these ones they will probably be my last.

I love J&M...I buy LOTS of their clothes and accessories, as I spend way too much time in airports. Nonetheless, these Cap Toe shoes wore way too quickly; the heals didn't last 4 months and the area behond the toe (behind the cap) is fraying. Sorry mate...love your stuff in general, these shoes are the exception, not a fan.

I had to return this shoe twice because of poor craftsmanship. After only a couple of wears, the footbed came unglued from the rest of the shoe. I replaced my first pair and Johnston & Murphy told me that it should not happen again. The same thing happened with the second pair. Very disappointing for expensive shoes. I would not buy a Johnston& Murphy product again. I ended up replacing the Meltons with the Kenneth Cole Travel Guide. I am very pleased. The difference in construction is obvious (India vs Italy).
