I had to return them for the next size up. I had a pair of these years ago in a light suede and loved them. Great arch support. As the suede is no longer available, I ordered them in a light brown leather which turns out to be too rough for my feet. After wearing them the first time, I had blisters between my toes and on the sides of my feet. Massaging the leather did not help. I'm returning them.

Not the same as it used to be! They have changed the insole of the sandal and it is narrow. The big toe does not rest comfortably like it used to. Such a shame, this shoe was so comfortable!

I have to say I don't love these. I find them very heavy and rather stiff. The suede bottom isn't as smooth and comfortable as that of Naot and after a while of walking in them my feet feel rubbed by them. I plan to only buy sandals from Naot from now on.

Although these are beautiful, they are made cheaply and defective which makes them uncomfortable. None of the top straps are equal in length or direction. Hefty price tag for cheap shoes made in China.

This is my second pair of this shoe. My last pair was 15 years old. I assumed they would be the same, but I could see a significant difference. Cheap leather, sole, and overall. After a week of wearing the bracket broke below the buckle that holds the straps together. Had to send them to shoe repair. Wonder when the other one will break. Disappointed in the quality still comfortable. Should not be selling for the same price to high for the quality.

These are my favorite sandals. I have narrow feet and a high arch and they fit perfectly. I know that most people love Birkenstocks, but they are simply too wide and flat for me.

This is my third pair of the Mephisto Helen. It's my go-to summer sandal. I have a narrow foot and this fits very nicely. The scratch leather is soft between my toes.

These sandals are so comfortable! I have neuropathy and have tried many different shoes hoping to find a pair that feels good on my feet. None of them met my hopes and expectations until I tried these. I’m beyond pleased with my purchase!

I have an issue wearing these types of sandals due to a hammertoe. Hoped that ordering a half-size larger would resolve the rubbing on that toe. Tried to wear around the house, but did not work so must return.

Love this shoe. I’ve had several pair. When my back/si joint is in bad shape these shoes always give me relief.

This shoe is beautiful. However, the thong is thick which made walking in the sandal very painful. I must return them.

Fit perfectly. I bought a 39, wear a 9 in American size. Very comfortable from the 1st wearing and finally, a true navy blue shoe! Very happy with this purchase.

My go to sandals for 20+years!

I have owned multiple pairs of the Mephisto Helen for nearly 30 years. I replace my oldest pair with a new pair every 5-6 years. The quality and fit are always reliable and the shoes are extremely comfortable (after a short break-in period.) I highly recommend this classic.

While I have over 30 pairs of these gorgeous Mephisto Helen medium-width sandals, they have always been narrower than my foot actually is. So it is exciting to see the Mephisto Helen Plus with a wider base is available as basic alternative to accommodate the width of my foot. I immediately ordered them, too (1 black pair and 1 brown pair Helen Plus). I attached 2 photos to this review to show you a comparison. The “Kaleidoscope” Black base photo shows my outer 3 toes beyond the medium width.

This is my 3rd pair. So comfortable (I have morton's neuroma in my foot [which makes me like the openness of sandals] and in other leg - have knee arthritis). Also had plantar fasciitis in both feet in the past. I only wear comfortable shoes (also Vionic and Earth), but these sandals are my favorite. The arch is not quite as high as the ones in Vionic Tide sandals but I don't have any problems and the arch is higher than any other brand I’ve tried. Even after standing or walking, my feet and knees feel great. I wear a 9M in Vionic Tide sandals (but a 10W in their ballet slippers), a 9.5W in Earth and a 10 B in Mephisto Helen (the straps on the Helen allow for a wide foot to wear them!). They look great for WORK which is another plus. When you stand on a hard surface these sandals provide built-in cushioning. I will be buying more. I wear these more than any of my other sandals. I know they are pricey but seriously all my other shoes have taken a back seat this spring and summer. If you can get them on sale – grab them, that’s what I do. And I never had to 'break-in' any of the Helen sandals. First day I wear all day with no issues.

Mephisto sandals are my go to sandals. I have flat feet and have had planter fasciitis twice before I started wearing them. I also have had damage in my foot from an old sprain causing arthritis. I wore my old sandals so long I could not find the size anymore so I measured the length of them and contacted Zappo for help in sizing. Customer service got right back to me that day to tell me what size to get. Honestly it sounded big but when they came they were the same size as my old ones that I had gotten at a store here but in a European size without any mention of the US size like Zappo’s had. Very satisfied with my purchase!!!

I love mephistos sandals. the fit and comfort. I have been getting this brand for over twenty years. Birkenstock don't have the arch support like the mephistos.

Be specific about your likes and dislikes. How was the fit and size? What does the material feel like? How awesome (or not) do you feel wearing them?

I think that I bought my first pair of Mephistos well over 40 years ago, and still have every one. They are comfortable right out of the box, and provide great arch support. The Helen sandal not only fits well, but the “paint” treatment is attractive—shiny and matte, random pattern. From camping to celebrations, one or another of my Mephistos is most likely to be chosen.

Normally I wear a 9 or 9.5 US in most brands. I ordered these in a 10 and they were too small so I had to exchange for an 11 which is I believe a 42 in European sizing. They were the style I wanted and the size is just a number. I like the vented heel and I'm still breaking in the thong part but only on my left foot weirdly. I was looking to get away from Birkenstocks and these are a nice alternative, though they are more narrow, which is OK with me as I have narrow feet. They are well made and I look forward to them being my go-to shoes for this summer.

Every year I buy a new pair of these and they are my go-to, all-day sandals for most of the year in Southern California.

I own 10 pairs of Helen for a reason; I'm able to slip into a new pair and walk all day, stopping only momentarily to refect on my pain-free feet. I live in Southern California so Helen is my year-round uniform. My only complaint is withdrawal of some of my favorite leather finishes.
