I started with the 1490's from Dr. Martens but found the toe box to be veryy tight around the instep and toe area of my foot, so after much deliberation, I went with these instead. Overall the boot is very comfortable straight out of the box, the sole is surprisingly well cushioned and the break-in period is much shorter than I had expected from other reviews I have read about this brand. They are a little bit stiff at first, and the boots may even squeak initially as they break in, but this is offset by owning a classic, great feeling, and great looking pair of boots. I bought the Dr Martens Wonder Balsam as recommended, but find that I actually prefer the look of them as they get worn in and scuffed, more than the polished look of new boots. I will definitely buy another pair, if these ever wear out, which is highly unlikely.

Boots are perfect. A wee bit painful break in period but now feel like I'm wearing comfy slippers. Would definitely buy again. Work through those blister and you will be happy.

These boots ran a full size (or more) large. Thanks to the wonderful Zappos customer service, however, there was no issue with getting the correct size. It takes about a week to comfortably break them in, but this is a tradition with Dr. Martens.

I wear size 11.5 to 12 normally but I'm very happy I ordered these size US/11. With a thin padded insole I added, they fit well! I used generous amounts mink oil several times for the first 2 weeks and with thick socks the broke in very quickly! Super comfy with plenty of toe room. The more I wear them the better they get in comfort and looks too. The bubble toe is perfectly rounded and looks really sharp. Totally worth the money.

Great boot, bought this as a replacement pair for the ones that wore out (I had them for 5+ years). The bottom sole looked brand new but the top leather by the laces was cracked after so long. Loyal customer. I love these. I suck it up and just break them in by wearing, no fancy boiled water tricks, or walking on the moon. Grow a pair.

Great boots, but there are things that can be different, as the insole, the leather quality is very good indeed, but the vintage one, are better, inside the tongue is a little, hard to use, and the time to break in, is a long long time, I have 1919 where they made in England and the leather is not better but the time to break is very small in compare.

These are awesome boots. I have been wearing Docs for years and there is a reason that I keep buying them. They are durable, comfortable (more comfort the longer you wear them), and look great. Whatever shoe size you wear, order Docs a size smaller. If arch support is an issue, then go buy some inserts. Zappos has always been excellent with shipping and customer support, thanks. Overall, five stars.

The recipient of these boots as her Christmas gift reports: "Yes I like them, they're fairly comfortable, I haven't had any problems and no blisters, they aren't broken in yet, and yes they look the way I want." Also, we are the coolest parents ever. They're Doc Martens! A timeless classic! What more do you need?

Own many Dr Martens shoes, can't find these anywhere but Zappos. Hard to break in but worth it. Love these boots!

Classic. Needs better insoles. These insoles are not removable.

Definitely needed the insoles from DM, which I also got from Zappos! I love Docs. Now, in America, you can only get the Made in China or Made in Vietnam, which lets be honest, are terrible quality compared to Made in England. But that is no fault of Zappos of course. They fit fairly well, and the packaging and shipping is great. The customer service can't be beat. Treat these boots, but don't treat them too often with oil otherwise it really softens the leather a little too much and causes crinkling and splitting.

Docs have a break-in period. After a few days wearing them they have started to loosen up, maybe too much. There aren't any half sizes either.

I was so stoked to get a new pair of Doc's after my first pair wore out. I ended up dissapointed. After 10 months the sole split side to side. The leather had cracked and split despite meticulous care. The once legendary durability of Doc's has gone to crap since they sent manufacturing to another country. Not worth the price. Great looks, but if you're actually working/out on the streets don't expect to get any life out of them.

I bought these boots and they were shipped very quickly The sales person I contacted was very attentive and helpful. I'm very impressed with zappos.com The boots are close to the British versions but the quality is a bit less and the soles are not as comfortable as the ones I had to kick heads with when I was a kid. For the price I feel they should be the same. But blood does clean up well from them.

A definite drop off in quality from my previous pair which lasted 10 only to have run in with a chain saw which chopped up the leather but the steel toe saved me from any harm. Leather, laces, and eyelets all appear to be of lesser quality. These are size 13 and I must wear thick socks for a proper fit. They are relatively easy to break in. I put in orthopedics for arch support.

I have to admit I really liked the boots but the left one was not made well. The lace eyes were offset by about a half an inch and the tongue was angled to the left and did not fill the gap at the top of the boot. It was around on the side of my calf.

I've owned several pairs of Doc's dating back to the '80s. Ever since they decided to manufacture in China, the brand has taken a horrible turn for the worse. These are hands down not only the worst pair of Doc's I've ever owned, but far and away the worst pair of boots or shoes I've ever owned. There is a noticeably stiff ridge on the inside of the boot where the tongue meets the toe (more pronounced on the right than the left of mine for some reason), that digs into the thin skin on the top of your foot. Not uncomfortable, painful and not what I expect in a pair of boots at this price. I actually bought one size bigger to accommodate the steel toe, I can't imagine what this would be like in my normal size. I imagine they would be literally unwearable. These are going back and I'm not sure I'll ever buy another pair of Doc's again.
