Mine came with a defective tounge that was not seen properly and kept sliding to right of my foot.

I have avoided docs since the 90's the quality went down and the price went up after they started making them in China and honestly ( I was 17) they just lost their punk Cred whem everybody started wearing them ( yes, I said I was 17). I have been wearing the same boots since then ( Corcoran jump boots ). But , now I have new job and walk all day and my feet were sore so remembered the soles we're comfortable so I thought with a little young punk hesitation I bought a pair. So my feet don't hurt at the end of the day now and I have to admit there is a homey feeling about them. They are near impossible to break in haven't had a pair of boots this hard to break in since my last docs but if you look up how to soften leather boots with mink oil online you will find a couple of techniques that require coating them with mink oil and letting them set for a day or two and they will be a little easier on your feet.

I usually wear a US women's 9, so I got the UK 7s, then remembered that my other pair of Docs are UK 6s and fit perfectly. They were out of 6s, though, so I just stuck with the 7s. They do feel a bit too big, but I wear hand knit wool socks that are pretty thick, so it should be okay. I did have to re-lace them to make them tighter and more comfortable. I wore them around the house for a few hours and they were comfy on my feet, but when I wore them to work all day the tops of the boots did rub my calves a little raw. Longer socks or boot cuffs should fix that problem. I got the cherry red and they are a really nice, rusty red color that seems fairly neutral (not a primary color red). I generally have foot and back problems, but when I wear my old Docs I don't have any issue with my back or feet, so I expect the same from these. I wish they had more pull-on or zip-up options because lacing and unlacing them to get them on and off is a bit of a PITA.

Somehow, in the past 2 decades of wearing other non-Docs brands of boots, I'd forgotten how unbearably uncomfortable they are when new and how long it takes to break them in compared to other boots. It's just not worth it to try to return to wearing Docs when there are so many more boot options than there were 25 years ago.
