Originally I ordered the 1460 in a women's 9 because some of the reviews said that they ran small. I wear an 8½ so it was a tough choice. The 9 came and they were way too large. They were beautiful so it was hard to part with them. I sucked it up and ordered the 1490 in an 8. I am so happy that I did! These boots are to die for, slightly taller than the 1460 but I actually think I like that better, they look slimmer in the ankles which I like. Now to begin the notoriously arduous process of breaking them in!

These are great boots and that is what you get from Dr. Martens all the time. This is my 8th pair of the brand. They run large, I wear a size 12US Nike/Adidas and that translates to a 11 US in these boots. They are the most comfortable boots that you will ever wear! Zappos has great customer service so order away!

Docs Rock - Can't beat a good Dr. Marten boot. I have 6 pair of Doc's that I have purchased since 1995. They are all still going strong and by far the most comfortable boot made. Thank you Zappos for providing such a high quality boot at a comparable price. FYI: Was at Dillards the following day after I ordered these, and I paid less through Zappos.

The best - Docs are the best. They don't have to be broken in. They are broke in when you put them on the first time. These are stiff boots. If you work them like a new baseball mit they will be fine. Zappos are the best.

Just like the original bouncy sole - Do not under any circumstances try to break these in with out serious thought. Dont just go hiking around in new boots because you will be in pain, I mean blisters. Oil and break in gradually and they'll be a dream. This is my fifth pair.

The classic - This was my first pair of Docs, and although they're taking a while to break in (my ankles, I fear, may never fully recover) I still absolutely love them. The first time I wore them was in a blizzard and except for the whole not broken in thing, they did very, very well. They're a little big, but it's my fault for buying a half size bigger than I needed. So, in conclusion, these shoes are absolutely amazing for crappy weather and they're pretty versatile. I'm not really "punk" or "goth" or anything like that, and they still go with pretty much anything.

Great fit! These are probably the best fitting shoes I have ever owned, and I would definately buy them again, although I don't really know how long that will be since my friend has a pair that are five years old and still look great! :)

The waffle sole. I've always liked they way the waffle sole feels, but I don't like the way it looks with this style of boot. Maybe if they could just make the whole thing black it would look better to me.

Dr. Martens 1490 Series - I love these boots. They are the third pair I have owned. The previous two pair lasted about 4-5 years each. I was delighted to find a source for them as they are not commonly stocked in local shoe stores.

Punk to Goth - in between & outside - From Mod, to Punk, to Goth and everything in-between and outside (in the mainstream), Dr. Martens are my foot attire of choice. I've been wearing them for years. Dr. Martens can be stiff and tough to break-in, but once the leathers conform to your foot, they fit like a glove and with proper care, will last for years. The Air Wair sole is amazing and must be worn to believe the comfort. Once they do wear out, simply replace the sole with a new one. Thanks to England for giving Dr. Martens the chance to develop a revolutionary comfortable sole and upper that has become truely iconic.

My First Pair of Docs - I'm 27 now...all of my friends wore docs back in high school, and loved them...its later for me, but I needed a pair of motorcycle boots, and one of my friends suggested these...The truth is that they are really not that hard on the feet at first. I'm sure after break in they will feel even better. I've had them for 4 days now, and have worn them almost every day. No blisters...and I'm used to wearing Vans (the most comfortable shoe in the world.) My feet are a little wide and the docs fit perfectly... I wear a US size 11-11.5 and the Doc 10's fit nicely. I recommend these boots, and would buy them all over again. They have a classic look that does not go out of style...as they have been around for over 40 years now.

TOTALLY AWESOME BOOTS!!! These boots are awesome!!! After wearing them just a couple of days, they felt like they were made for me. They totally supported my feet, excellent comfort!! The soles are remarkable, I'll have these boots a long time!!! EXCELLENT, THANK YOU!!!

I love these shoes - I always wanted a pair of docs, and when I finally got them, I wasn't let down at all, they are great shoes, the only problem was that at first they are a little tough to break in, but once you do they are really comfy! Zappos was also really fast with shipping...I got them the next day! Bottom line, a great pair of shoes!!

SOme things never change... This is my thrid pair or Doc's in about 25 years of every day wear.My last pair made it about 13 yrs and I would expect this pair to at least that many. I should have gotten these a sixe bigger , as they are exact , but given time and break in , these will fit like a glove.

I'm a tall woman with long/narrow feet (UK 10 fits me) and my ankles are slimmer than I think the boot was made for, so I'm pretty sure I'm never going to break these in. I might take these to a shoe store to have them modified, because they really are beautiful but they're just not working for me.

So happy with this boot! Great fit, classic Dr. M's look with a squishier sole. They're very comfy, even when spending all day on foot. They run a little smaller than my regular size, so I bought a size up and the fit is perfect. Zappos service is first rate and is the best place online to buy shoes! I will shop here often!

Excellent brand - This boot is excellent; you can use it for anything you want, as a casual boot or as to go to the outdoors. I recommend it 100 percent.

I Love Docs! Let me first say that Zappos has provided one of the best online experiences I've had with a retailer. I was upgraded to free 2nd day air! I think these Dr. Martens are some of the most comfortable shoes around. This is my second pair of Docs, the first kind that I had was the 1460 eight-holes, they were basically the same, but one thing that bothered me was that the tounge would dig into my shin when I bent my foot, So with these I went for the ten hole, and let me tell you, they're much, much better. Also, I prefer the smooth leather to the greasy leather. Whenever I wore the smooth leather, they felt more like cowboy boots because they had that type of leather. The smooth leather looks better, and is more of what people associate with these types of leather. In addition, the leather was softer and a little thinner. The break-in time for me was short, like a day and a half. But one thing that I have to recomend is to lace from the outside. This means, when you are lacing, thread the lace into the shoe from the outside, as opposed to threading from the inside out. For some reason, it took pressure off of my foot and made it much more comfortable. I believe the shoe in the picture on this page is laced "wrong" but do whatever you want. Excellent Boots! p.s. dont get the hiking soles, with the diamond pattern, they aren't as comfortable, only the original!

Excellent boot as always with Dr. Marten's - I absolutely love them! Mine have the black smooth leather which is cool because it looks different than just regular leather. You can make it look really shiny by polishing. This style is just like the 1460, but a few inches taller in the height. I like my boots closer to my calves. It does take a few times wearing them to break them in, but who cares because after that they are so comfortable. The "bouncing" soles are my favorite. Whatever rubber they use makes them really comfortable when walking. I used to have a pair of Dr. Martens when I was in the 7th grade, but grew out of them. I am just as pleased with them the second time around.

Great comfort - I have a very large foot, I'm a size 16 and these have got to be the lightest, most comfortable boots I have ever worn.

Dr. Marten's 1490 combat boots - Much lighter-weight than I expected, and more supple too. I can hardly wait to give them to my son. Hope he likes them as much as I do!

Dr. Martens's 1490 series review - These boots are very nice and comfortable and they go well with everything. The boots are a statment to punkers.

The best boot made! I just got a new pair from Zappos (fantastic service!) to replace an identical pair that finally wore out after 14 YEARS of service. This is a lovely boot that looks good with pants, shorts, skirts, and dresses and is good for year round wear. This boot should be a staple of every person's wardrobe. They have comfy bouncy soles, and the leather provides great ankle support. They were very stiff when I first put them on, but after about two or three hours of wear, they felt broken in. Just make sure to wear socks, because Doc's are leather with no insole inside. You can put in an insole of your choosing, but regular socks are enough.

Doc's Rule - I have bought nothing but Doc's for the last 12 years now. I'd have to say the best of the bunch would have to be 10's with 8's coming in a close 2nd. I'd rather walk bare foot when wear anything elsa.
