Still Wearing a Classic -
The first pair of Chuck Taylors I wore were an old pair given to me by a friend who bought a new pair when he made the high school basketball team.
I immediately noticed how much more comfortable they were than the ones I had always worn (I grew up on PF Flyers because you could run faster and jump higher than Keds).
As time passed, my friends and I bought Adidas, Puma, Reebok, and lastly, New Balance at higher and higher prices. When the price of athletic shoes became higher than my leather dress shoes, I decided enough is enough and went back to Converse All-Stars. It's a washable canvas shoe at a price I can live with. I buy several pair at a time so I have one when I need one.

A Famous "Used-to-be"
Converse All-Stars used to be the official shoe of the NBA for many years. If you remember watching Oscar Robertson, Bob Cousy, Elgin Baylor or Jerry West, then you remember they all wore "Chuck Taylors" or "Chucks." Every single NBA player wore them!
They used to be the top-of-the-line athletic shoe and all cool teenage guys in the 50s and 60s had to have a pair. There simply was no substitute.
Those were the days before leather athletic shoes, however. Because of the canvas uppers, Chucks are pretty light weight. They are pretty cool in hot weather but do not offer much protection from cold weather.
Chucks are very comfortable and pretty sturdy and long-wearing, but I fail to see why they should cost as much as a good pair of leather athletic shoes. I guess it's the retro cool. I wore them as a kid and simply cannot give them up. As soon as my black hi-tops wear out, I'm shopping for a new pair.

Chucks -
I love the look and comfort of Chucks and get lots of compliments on them. I see them everywhere, too. They're really comfortable and well-fitting, but I feel like the heel and the joining of canvas top and rubber bottom wore out really quickly and were a little tough to keep clean.

I love how Converses look on anybody. Even if they make my feet look like a clowns'. They don't support my arch.

Cool -
These shoes are cool and comfortable, but if you wear them in the rain, they can get wet very easily. Other than that, they're great.

Breezy -
I love my Converse sneakers, however, I come from Scotland and they aren't really suited for the weather. There's usually a breeze, which makes them a chilly item of footwear and they always get soaking wet. However, I love them all the same. :)

Old School.
These shoes are awesome looking. They are a little uncomfortable because they have no support but they are old school and need to come back into style. I gave them a 4 mostly because they are cool.

sexiest sneaker on the market.
Evey since I was a child I thought you were the best if you had Chucks on. As I am older now (39) I feel they are very sexy sneakers. Growing up I wore Prokeds in blue until I come not find them and then I got Chucks and have loved ever since. One christmas I had that converse was in trouble $$ and CC so I bought 12 pairs of them and give out to 10 friends as gifts. I keep 2 pairs just incase they did go out of business. I still have a pair and they are from 1985, still in a box. I hope soon they come back big.

The best currently available, but not the best ever.
Tips for first-timers:
First, some history: the Chucks of the 60's were better than the Chucks of the 70's, which were better than the Chucks of the 80's, which were better than the Chuck's of the 90's. So if you want the best Chucks, you'll need big bucks. You'll have to buy vintage. And now that they've been bought by a Japanese firm & moved production to China, who knows. But with that in mind, here's some tips -
1) Pay no mind to Zappos' recommendation that you buy 'em 1/2 size small. Modern Chucks are narrow so you'll have to go large or they'll cramp your foot. That's why they'll make your feet look long & skinny. But don't worry, I like the look & so will you.
2) If you are going to just be walking & standing & sitting in them, they'll last you a very long time. However, at some point they will begin to wear out. Toward the end they will develop large holes in the canvas & the rubber parts will begin to tear. Finally you'll begin to doubt your human worth for continuing to wear them, and you'll throw them away & get new ones.
3) If you have a flat foot, you'll appreciate that the insoles are shaped like the Nevada Desert, not the Rocky Mountains.
4) They'll look & feel better when you break them in, so when you get them throw some dirt on the white parts. You feel better already?
5) As someone said, these shoes are not a fashion statement - they exist in a world beyond that wicked realm. Putting them on you will have a new-found sense that you are an intelligent person who can spot a good thing and use it wisely.

Poor SupportGreat Support
I have worn All Stars for years and will continue to do so because I love the style, but the quality has definitely dropped off. I ordered my usual size and the left shoe was about .25" shorter than the right. This isn't the first time there have been inconsistencies with the construction. I'm exchanging for another pair and hope they don't have the same problem.

They're great as expected. But the laces are at least 12" too long. Kind of ridiculous.

I like converse and the style of them. But I wish I would’ve known they run almost a size larger than you actual size. I bought this sometime like a month ago and they were way to big for me. Order a size below.

Well, Chucks are chucks. The only complaint I have is that the bottom started splitting from the edge after about 6 months of every-day wear. See the picture for a visual.
This is the first time I've had that happen. Usually, a hole gets worn through the bottom, after a few years, before I need a new pair. Both shoes have this problem, though the one pictured is the worst. Walking through snow will end up with it packing into your shoe through that split.
This is for the all-black version. I'll try one more all-black pair and see if this was a one-time thing.

Pros: Looks good, great ankle support.
Cons: Toe area scratches easily, sole feels thin, shoe looks and feels narrow (width), requires a lot of effort to get on/off.

I love the style but have to say the quality of the shoes may not be up tp par with other brands. There is little arch support, you need to spen a quite of bit of time \'breaking into\' them. If you have wide feet like myself, then it can occasion pinch your toes. Other than that it is pretty comfortable.

Fine example of canvas shoe -
This is a good example of an old-style canvas shoe. It's great for what it is, but doesn't set any standards for comfort.

Looks good, but feels not great -
There is very little arch support in this shoe. If you have an orthotic insert, then it is fine, but without one, it is like walking on concrete.

Shoe for teenage boy -
Purchased these for my son when the solid black was sold out everywhere in his size. Usually wears a size 13, but this shoe does run a full size larger and size 12 wasn't available. So needless to say, his feet look like clown feet now! He does say there is no arch support which he does need, and he did admit that they look odd with certain clothes. Pretty much only wears them with his basketball shorts and t-shirt. But, overall he's happy he got the shoes.

Nike owned -
This USED to be a great shoe. I used to wear these shoes all the time. But since Nike bought out the company, I noticed that there were some changes, most noticable was the quality. It sucks that Nike own these now. Since I used to like to wear converse because I didn't want to support Nike. But now that is not possible.

Chucks need more cushioning in the sole; as manufactured, they are a hard walking sneaker on concrete or asphalt or even on non-carpeted floors. The air holes make for cooler feet, however. And their lightness is a plus. Bolster the soles, and they would be much better.
