I love these boots. I've had them for about a month. They were comfortable right out of the box and are one of the most versatile pairs of shoes in my closet. Good for T-shirts and jeans right up trousers and a sports jacket. My only beef is they don't keep water out that well. I suppose that's why they call them Desert Boots... hahahaha....ahem. Sorry.

Great shoe. Looks better overtime. For me, fits true to size, but a little bit on the narrow side for my toes. recommend wearing longer socks when you break then im as the tongue is stiff and will rub on your ankle and will hurt. After you break them in, the tongue gets soft and after that , its fine. boot is not breathable and your feet will get sweaty so keep that in mind. other wise good shoe, love the style and color.

As others have noted these shoes look great. And after they're broken in they're pretty comfortable. This is my first pair of this style of shoe and the high top takes some getting used to. They're pretty stiff when you first get them. I made the mistake of wearing them to work and taking a long walk in them and got some pretty good blisters. If I could do it over again I would wear them for a few hours a night just to get them broken in before starting to wear them all day. But they do really look great.

A classic shoe, a classic look. I had the Bushacre 2 Desert Boot chukkas (which Zappos does not sell) for many years and when replacing them, purchased this shoe, thinking it was identical. Similar, but not quite the same: these have a somewhat sturdier, stiffer, and just slightly darker leather, and also as a result feel a bit tighter, though this improves as the shoes get worn in. The other main difference are the crepe soles, as opposed to dark tan artificial ones on the Bushacres which seem designed to look like the end state of crepe soles following extended wear. The crepe is light colored and softer, and it will begin to dirty immediately when worn. This is normal, and you can accelerate the process intentionally...the grime is meant to stay. All in all, this is a boot that will last and you won't regret buying. But note that the sizing runs large: I usually wear 11s, but these are a definite size 10 and Bushacres are 9.5 for me.

Dressed up or down, DBs are classic stompers that will have you looking and feeling good. These are great "about-town" shoes, very comfortable but not necessarily made for long treks. The crepe sole is a double-edged sword: very cushy and comfy, but picks up dirt very easily and quickly looks positively disgusting. This often ends up looking just fine; the dirt just darkens the side of sole...but sometimes is just ewww. If your find yourself in the Ewww camp, consider the Bushacre II (Zappos didn't carry but found em for me and hooked me up! :) They're essentially the DB but with a non-crepe sole. Not quite as comfy but no more ewww. Zappos!

I love the shoes but the right shoe lace broke within two weeks. I think that one of the eyelets wasn't set correctly and wore away the lace. Zappos won't offer replacement laces! :(

Seems to run about a half a size small. I also own a pair of Wallabees from Clarks and they fit great at 6 1/2. I ordered the Desert Boot at the same size and I could barely get my foot in them. I had to go up to a size 7. Also, they are very stiff at first, but don't let that throw you off. They will soften up quite quickly. A very nice looking shoe, especially in the Beeswax.

Loved the boots. They run a half size long. They are a little wider feeling in the heal than I'm use to but thick socks seem to help. The sole initially turned me off. It's very squishy. They look good on and no one see sole up that close.

Comfortable shoe. Feels like no other shoe I have had. Feels a little insecure since it has minimal laces and only 2 eyes. This is definitely a shoe and not a boot.

Been wearing these since 1966...huge hit on the campus of Michigan State University since Bubba Smith wore them. 'The boots that Bubba wears' was the mantra...and that is all it took! In addition, they are fashionable, comfortable and great for snow and ice. Been with them since...by the way, Oakwood Suede is the color!

I just got my third pair of Desert Boots by Clarks. Two of these three came from Zappos (which deserves a hug, simply based on how fast these boots arrived at my house - less than 24 hours after I ordered them when I paid an extra $15 in shipping). I give them 4 stars out of 5 for overall for only one reason, which has absolutely NOTHING to do with Zappos, but Clarks. I wish that Clarks would supply better laces for these boots. The ones that come with the boots are very light weight, cotton laces which will last about 3 weeks (based on my last 2 pairs). This may sound like a pitiful remark, but I remember the first time it happened I was out of town and only had these shoes and had to find some new laces, which wasn't exactly on my itinerary. I now 1) carry extra laces in my luggage and 2)replace these laces with better ones as soon as I get them.

First of all, Zappos' service was impeccable. I had to make this order twice, both times the orders were placed after 9:00 PM, and both times the shoes were on my doorstep within 36 hrs. An elegant classic--no frills at all but great looking, comfortable, and can dress up or down. That kind of flexibility was the primary attraction for me. As other reviews have indicated, there is a breaking-in period, and until they are set to your feet you will need to wear them with good, thick socks. I have the beeswax leather, and they are taking a bit longer to break in than I think the suede would. I did not have the sizing difference that most other reviewers indicated, but I have a pretty wide foot and that is probably the reason (I have a thumb-width of extra space in the toe, but the width is too snug to size down). The yellow crepe sole on the lighter colors picks up a lot of dirt in a hurry--be advised if you are one who likes your shoes to look spotless at all times. A note specifically on one color. I originally ordered the taupe suede, but the actually color is CONSIDERABLY lighter than the picture here (which looks to be from the Clarks website itself). Instead of the darker medium-brown in the picture, it is actually something closer to the color of chocolate milk. No problem with Zappos' return policy--a quick swap for the beeswax brought the color I needed--but I would have preferred the suede.

Overall, these are great boots. Very soft and comfortable right out of the box, and the crepe sole is great for long days walking around. The boots were pretty big, and I had to exchange them for a size down from my usual size. And, they were significantly lighter in color than in the photos on the website. They're more of khaki color than the dark tan shown, which looks a little weird when wearing khaki pants.

Great boots. I got the beeswax leather ones. Super stylish. Some things to be aware of just so your expectations are set right: 1. The beeswax leather marks up like crazy. The patina they develop is part of the appeal, but don't be alarmed at first when you bend your foot and the leather changes color. 2. They run very large. I wear a size 12 in almost every shoe (Nike, Vans, Cole Haan) and I tried a 12, 11.5, and 11. The 12 and 11.5 felt super wide and my heel lifted when walking. The 11's were right on for width, but I needed a little more pinky toe room. I heard these stretch and they do! One day with thick socks and I have the room I need. 3. The crepe soles will get really dirty looking as they pick up stuff from the ground. It's just part of the classic design.

I love the style of shoes to start off. People say the shoes take some wearing in, I spent 10 minutes artificially wearing them in literally by hand and they've only become much more comfortable! I love the crepe soles. They make your stride soft/smooth and near silent; something you appreciate that other shoes don't have! Size: I ordered 1 full size down and there's more than a thumb width between my big toe and the end of the shoe. Arch: not that great, I have quite a big arch, it took time to get used to, still think I should get supports in there soon (had them for a month now).

Can't beat the classic look. I bought these to wear on "Jeans Fridays" at work. Still breaking in after about a week of wear.

The Desert Boot is a good boot. I've owned 3 pair in my life. The only problem is, I owned 3 pair in 3 years, i.e., they start coming apart after 1 year, pretty much on the dot. Granted, I'm an "I only own one pair of shoes at a time" kind of guy, but I also never did anything but walk in them.

Pretty nice casual chukkas. I'm not a huge fan of the crepe sole, it gets dirty very very quickly. Also the laces on mine broke after a few months, although Clarks sent me new ones for free in two days. Also these are useless in wet weather...very slippery soles on anything but dry pavement. Run slightly large. Also the toe area is not very tall so if you have big toes it might take some breaking in.

This review is based on the first try on. I normally wear a 12-13 and have a wide foot. I got the 11.5 in this and although they feel a little tight in the width the length is just right. I'm sure the width will stretch out a bit as they form to my feet anyway. Great, quality shoes that will go with anything and get lots of compliments.

Nice shoes, pretty standard. Real flat, not good for walking. The light, rubbery soles pick up dirt and dust, and the texture makes it hard to scrub off so it's tough to keep them looking clean. Overall though it's a good shoe, I'd buy another pair but probably go for a darker color.

Nice shoe. Taupe Suede color on Zappos site is much darker then what you will receive. I ordered two pairs thinking I got the wrong color...both are going back.

I love the looks of these and the quality of the leather. But...there is little/no arch support and I can't wear them for a day without feeling pain in my heels all night. I am a little surprised that they receive such high reviews. Maybe they should be sold with a free sole insert?

These seem to run very large. I bought half a size smaller than usual and they are still too big. I will return them for a smaller size.

This is a really comfy shoe. I was worried that the high top would rub on my ankle raw but it's actually quite comfy, even with my ankle socks. I love the lose fit of these. My only complaint is that the inner cream/tan sole stained my socks yellow the first couple wears.
