These boots were made for walkin' Since the mid 1960's I have worn lace-up boots. For about twenty-five years I have had my boots hand made by a company in Spokane, Washington. Lately, while having two pairs of my boots rebuilt by the Spokane-based company, I bought two pairs of Madison's by Stacy Adams. These boots look and feel terrific. As long as Stacy Adams continues to make these boots, these will be my boots of choice. I positively love these boots. By the by, I wear a 9.5 "B" width. Although these are called a "D" width, they fit my very well, which makes me believe that they do run a bit narrow and will fit those who have narrow feet. Really a top knotch boot for the money. Great looks and great value!

A Leader Always Leads. As a kid growing up I used to see classy older gentlement wearing the Madison and I made a promise that would be the shoe of my choice. I have a closet full of shoes and boots, but I have been wearing the Stacy Adams Madison for over twenty years and still own the first pair that I purchased. I wear the oxford, the slip on and the boots in brown and black. The quality and workmanship is unmatched in the price point. I store the footwear on cedar shoe trees and find that this keeps the shape and the new shoe look for years and extends the life of the shoe significantly. You can't go wrong with the Stacy Adams Madison, it can take you from the out house to the white house in true style.

Buying another pair! These boots are fantastic. I just received the pair of black boots that I ordered and am in the process of ordering a pair of brown. They are extremely comfortable and made in a traditional style that's hard to find.

Known comfort. I've been wearing this shoe for over 20 years and have gotten very use to the look of the boot and the white stitch. The look speaks for itself.
I'd also recommend:
I have only known the boot look with the white stitch in brown or black. I would like to test the gray.

Wunnerful Wunnerful If you are looking for a good shoe, actually boot in this case, this is it! I have wide big feet, and this is the only dress boot I can find, fortunately, It is wonderful. Since I also have bad ankles, the extra support provided by the lace up is just what the doctor ordered. I don't think I will ever go back to a low cut show again. I am also a rather nostalgic 20 year old, so this fits my personality rather well. I would recommend this one to anyone that Has a hard time finding good shoes.

The best buy of your life! I've had mine for 4 years now -wearing them everyday, everywhere, doing everything. I liked them so much that I had them resoled twice and they still look new. People are always asking me where I got my shoes. They're fantastically comfortable as well.

Great Shoe. I rarely get excited about matters concerning clothing, but when I saw these shoes I fell in love with them. They're comfortable, extraordinarily well made, and cut quite a dashing figure on their own. I looked at several Italian made shoes, -but who needs them? This is one (actually 2) great shoe.

Soul foot comfort. I am 59 years old and I have been wearing Stacy Adams for 40 years. I own an identical black boot like the one featured. Along with the colors of mustard, grey, and brown, not to forget the other eleven colors in the lace ups. Yes even red. Stacy Adams are comfortable, stylish and very elegant for formal or just casual wear. More of the younger generation are wearing the original style of Stacys, better known as the Biscuit Toe. I also have Stacy Adams slip-ons, and over half of my 38pairs of shoes are stacys. The Madison boot, and all Stacys takes a great shine also. The lined stitching always catches the eye of female and male admirers.

I have found a great way to save the original stitching for years to come. I have a thin rubber sole put on the bottom of each leather sole and that prevents it from ever wearing out and being replaced. Only the rubber has to be resoled.

I was married in Budapest, Hungary on March 18, 2000 in their ceremonial marriage castle. I wore a grey and black formal outfit, and that's right, a pair of grey lace ups. I got quite a bit of attention, especially since my wife's shoes were also in the color of grey. I can't say enough about Stacys, except I hope they never stop making them.

I really like these shoes. If you are going to order get a full size smaller than your usual size and order a wide. I was skeptical about other reviews on the sizing but I followed the advice and ordered following these rules and it was a perfect fit. The leather is a bit too shiny for me but with wear it will become perfect. I was surprised at the comfort. No matter how far I walked my feet never ached. Some might complain that the top of the boot rubs or bites into their ankles but the solution is to lace them up leaving two hooks empty at the top. If the shoe slips around than you need a smaller size anyways. Overall i may order another pair later on in a different color to match to any outfit.

I just bought and received my second pair of Madison boots. But first let me review the durability and quality of my first pair. My first pair of Stacys are over 3 years old and have been through a lot. When I first got them, they were extremely comfy but that was before I realized that these shoes run large. Still, I wore them! The breaking in time for me was roughly a week of daily wear and after that they were the most comfortable shoes ever. My original Stacys were/are my everyday shoes. Wore them through rain, snow, desert heat, flood, blood (don't ask me how), vomit (parties!), alcohol (more parties!) and they even survived being dumped into a backyard pool! Of course I was attached to them. My first pair took a year and a half to wear through the original sole. Durable for such a thin sole when all things are considered! When I got them resoled, I asked the cobbler to make the soles thicker and replace the leather/rubber heel with a full rubber heel for added comfort and durability. After these modification the shoes are still going on strong after daily wearing for a year and a half (nearing two years) since the resole job. The uppers are thin and are built with glove leather which is the reason why are thin. Yes, they do get creases and the leather doesn't do entirely well against rough/textured objects. Excessive (over a year or more) wear will cause cracks, but if you are one of those type people that enjoy that worn look (like myself) then it isn't a problem. I ordered my second pair a size smaller. In a nutshell they run narrow. Quality seems the same, but we will see. Tips: baby powder or talcum powder on the tongue and leather touching areas greatly reduce or even entirely get rid of the squeaking. Hand bending and massaging the leather before wear loosen the leather. I also recommend to wear the them loose for a bit to aid in faster break in time. Also, better shoe laces.

I purchased these shoes for purely nostalgic reasons, i.e. they resemble shoes that my grandfather wore and shoes that were sold in my family's general store when I was a child in the 1940's. I selected the 9 because an 8.5 E was not available. I am satisfied with my purchase.

Love the look and style, and actually pretty comfortable too. The break in time is pretty standard, mine are still a little creaky even after a month or so of weekly wear and oiling, and the leather is a bit thin to really put them to heavy use (already have a spot on the outside of my foot where my toe created a crack on the outside). Other than the quality of the leather these are great, will definitely remain my favorite (and right now only) black shoes!

This unique looking shoe looks like it is painted over. Nice design, thin and supple, but with a high gloss like a patent-leather. It is hard to see how glossy this shoe really is on the pictures.

I've wanted a pair of these since the early 1980's. I normally take a 10.5 D. Sometimes a 10. After four previous size orders, I ended up with a 9E. Never needed an E width before and haven't worn a 9 in decades. These are made in India which was a negative for me but quality is high. They make a more expensive variation of this boot that, I suspect is made in the USA. Very cool in a retro kinda way.

Classy boot - I have had the Madison Boot for about a month and love it. It's a very sleek, elegant shoe that is more comfortable than I thought it would be. I bought it in an 11, though I typically wear 10 1/2 (which probably would have worked fine). My only small complaint is that the leather is a bit thin and the shoe strings are not for dress shoes. Otherwise, I recommend this classy boot to anyone who likes super-sharp styles.

Excellent costume shoe - The Madison is an excellent shoe for costuming period shows. As a costume designer I have used them often. Your service was excellent and as was your price, unfortunately they did not fit the actor well so we had to go to an alternative shoe. Thank you for your excellent service.

Stacy Adam's Madison Boots - Very comfortable to wear even on the first day. The leather squeaks and the contrasting stiching around the sole makes them look cheesy, at least on the brown model. Cheap shoelaces.

A Man in Staceys...oooooh! I'm a 30 something, very attractive single woman. Whenever I go out, I always notice how a man is dressed. The first thing I look at is his shoes/boots. You can tell alot about a man. I can forgive a lot when a man is wearing his Stacys (love the Madison Boot). A, "not so handsome" man all of a sudden looks much better to me (with actually a chance to date me) when he wears his Staceys. Stacys have sex appeal! If only all men would wear their Stacy Adams...I don't know if I could handle all of the excitement! Go Stacy Adams !!!

As a Costume Shop Manager for a large regional musical theater, I buy Stacy Adams a lot. However lately I am disappointed in the quality of the shoe! These boots in particular are not sturdy anymore and it's as if there's a veneer over a cheaper piece of leather. When the boot flexes, it tends to crack and peel now. They're still the most period-looking boot you can find, but they just aren't made like they used to be.

You will get compliments when you wear these. I'm pretty rough on shoes but these break in nicely. The only downfall is that the soles go out a bit faster than I would have liked. You will likely need to resole them in the first couple of months.

I bought these shoes last winter and thought it might be helpful for a followup review. These were to be my everyday winter work boots. A year later, even with weekly polishing, the leather around the toes cracked. Also, I have completely worn through the soles. Granted I walk a lot but I was expecting much better wear from these. I am not saying these are bad boots, but do not buy them thinking that they are going to be long lasting.

Pretty. But yikes! I am afraid to wear them. I don't think leather can get any thinner and still be called leather legally by law. I am afraid of a wardrobe malfunction blowout with these shoes. The stock laces are also too short for the boots eyelets. You get what you pay for, I do suppose. Good looking shoe, though. I can't help thinking it should be renamed 'The Depression Era Madison Boot.' I will let you know when they blow out. Tall guys and ex-linebackers beware of this shoe.

Love the look, but this shoe has never fit correctly. I thought perhaps they would get more comfortable with wear, which they have a bit. The problem is that the shoe is VERY narrow. I have never had a problem with regular width shoes, but if I ever purchase this shoe again, I will go to a store and try on wider sizes.

The Sizing Is Not Standard - For over forty years I have worn a size 10D in virtually every shoe. Based on reviews I read here, indicating that the shoe runs narrow, I purchased a size 10E. The shoes were very tight, particularly the right shoe. I took them to a local shoemaker to see if stretching would help. He has a complete set of Navy lasts. According to the lasts and his measurements, the left shoe was an 11C and the right shoe was slightly wider than an 11B. He also remarked that on the right shoe, the lacing system of the "blutcher" did not join properly. He said the exterior of the shoe was of quality leather, but the interior was lined with vinyl. I love the look of these shoes and was very disappointed in the current fit and lack of uniform sizing. My thought is that a 9.5EE would have been a good fit.
