My husband got me these last winter and I absolutely adore my boots. I wear them all the time and they still look brand new. Only qualm I have is that my arch is very high which makes the boots a little hard to put on. Otherwise I am sold on these.

For years now I have been a big fan of Frye boots. This was my first time ordering on line. I am very pleased with my purchase and look forward to ordering again. With minimal care Frye boots last years and years and are well worth every penny.

First of all, Zappos is Amazing! It took me a few different sizes to figure out what was the best fit. Usually an 8 in heels, 8.5-9 in sneakers and 9 in boots. 8.5 in engineer fit best. Toe box is generous so I wear thick sox and still ultra comfy. I have high instep and wider feet. No problems getting feet in. I fell in love with the Gaucho color and decided after 2 weeks I must get them in Black too. Black leather is stiffer and can't wait for them to break in. I opted for 12r as the upper circumference comes right under the widest area of my calf and is flattering. I also have 16 in athletic calves and was so happy the boots fit. Great with skinny jeans, under bootcut jeans and skirts and dresses. I will wear these till they fall apart. They are so comfy and stylish that I have been living in them since i got them. Thank you Zappos for being the best in customer service after so many tries. I am a customer for life. Please dont change a thing. I would rather deal with tou then take a chance with another company, even if they have a slightly better deal.

These may me the most comfortable pair of boots that I have ever owned. I am a size 7, but I decided to go a half size larger, 7.5. Footbed is a little narrow and with no zipper assistance to ease your foot in the boot, half sizes are a gift of heaven. I tend to over use and over wear all of my shoes, I am thankful that these are so well made.

I have a few Fryes and this has to be the most substantial pair I now own. Great support and extremely comfortable. The leather seems a bit thicker than my pair of Campus. I normally wear a 5.5 and ordered it in that size. If you want a boot to wear with thick socks, I'd go 1/2 a size up. I initially read all of the reviews about this being the, be all and end all of all boots and I'd have to say, they were all right about that! I also love the fact that they are made here in the U.S. If you want a pair of Fryes that will wow you, this is it!

LOVE these boots. They are great with jeans but tremendous with skirts and dresses. Get complements whenever worn. Comfort improves as they get worn, and they do take some break in time. If they are long enough, give them time to learn to love you.

My 16 year old daughter ordered these for school this year. She is an 8½ and she ordered them in her size and the fit is perfect. They are just as well made and great looking as ever. Thanks, Frye, for continuing to provide quality boots that last.

I bought these two weeks ago after agonizing for months over what style of Frye's to get it this time. I already own a pair of the black harness model which I loved, however, I wanted something a bit different . They are everything I hoped they would be. So tough, so versatile, timelessly stylish- they scream quality. I wear them with skirts, dresses, pants and jeans. My only warning is they need to be broken in, it took these past two weeks for them to start loosening up. Also I love that they are Made in the USA, it feels good to support craftsmanship here at home.

This boot is awesome. I'm pretty much an 8 in all my shoes, and so that's what I ordered. I debated getting an 8.5, but I'm glad I decided to trust the majority of reviews that claimed they were true to size. The fit is absolutely perfect, and even a little roomy with a thin sock on. I literally didn't want to take these boots off after I tried them on. They're a little difficult to get onto your foot at first, but that gets easier with wear and was not a deterrent for me in any way. I'm excited that these will practically last the rest of my life, and that they're made in the USA! If you're on the fence, just go for it. Go with the size you most commonly wear, and that should be just fine! Thank you, Frye and Zappos!

I bought these boots as a gift to myself a couple of months ago. I have 3 other pairs of Fryes (harness short, harness americana, campus 14L) and love them, but I wanted a pair in red, and with a rubber sole. These boots definitely run 1/2 small. I had to order up so that the arch support fit my foot properly, and so I had room in the toe box. These boots were a nightmare to break in - took many walks with my dog and suffered some blisters on my heels - but once they broke in, they became my favorite pair. I feel like I can stomp around any terrain in them. I fondly call them my end-of-the-world boots because if I had to grab one pair of boots and live in them, these would be it. I love the burnt red; goes with so much of my stuff, even some pinks. The rubber soles add enough cushioning that my feet never get tired. I love the height of the 12r and think they go better with dresses than the 8r; the extra height adds some femininity to an otherwise tough-looking boot. I only buy made in America Fryes, and these are.

This is my second review of the Fryes, I ordered the 12R in 8W, which is my normal size, and once the leather is stretched, there's definitely room for your toes and heel. You don't want a perfect fit and you don't want your heel slipping out each time you take a step. It took me maybe 2-3 days (8 hr work period, on my feet all day) to break them in. If you do get your regular size, just be aware that socks make them a bit harder to slip on.

This is my third pair of Frye Engineers in different colors over the last five years. They are excellent in quality and style. I always get compliments - they look great! During much of the year I wear them practically all the time! They are so very comfortable and accommodate my orthotics! Zappos customer service is outstanding as they assisted quickly with a flaw in my boots and the replacement was at my door in record time! I have always been impressed with the fast delivery and exceptional customer service.

Love 'em! The leather is stiff so they take a little wearing in but they are comfortable right away on my feet and I have tender feet. Very stylish and timeless.

I have an almost unnatural affinity for these boots. They are very comfortable -- though you have to be patient in getting them on the first few times -- and look great with everything. Note that the black will bleed onto whatever is underneath them, so I have a pair of gray skinny jeans that may always be black on the bottom 4 inches. It's not completely rational, but I love them anyway.

I'm not a "shoe person," but there is something about these boots that I'm absolutely in love with. I just put them on and my feet are blissfully happy- now that's a rare occurrence! I ordered them online and they fit like a glove. I use that Frye product to clean them off once in awhile and then water-proofed them which made the color a bit darker but I actually don't mind this new color. I like the worn in look so I don't freak out when I scratch or spill something on them- the more worn in the better. I get compliments on them on a daily basis by complete strangers which says something. I highly recommend these boots because they are just awesome. The height of the heel is perfect as well as where the boot hits on your lower calf.

These boots are awesome! They're visually stunning, and made with obviously excellent craftsmanship. I will say that they do require some breaking in. I normally wear an 8, and bought my usual size and upon first wear, noticed that the instep area was really tight. I wore them around my house for a day to no avail. I did some research online about how to stretch them out and ended up using my iron to blast some steam on the instep area until it was moist (being careful not to actually touch the iron to the leather) and then I wore them until they dried completely. Now they're perfect! They're wonderfully comfortable and they look great with skinny jeans or dresses. I can foresee myself getting a lot of use out of these, even into the summer months. The "gaucho" color is beautiful. It's a soft, sort of brushed leather. Be aware, Frye does not recommend using any leather creams on the gaucho color. I learned this after I bought their brand of weatherproof dressing and called their customer service line!

Just got my new boots - did a ton of research into the right boots, wanted funky but not too over the top - these will be great with everything! Like everyone said, the fit and getting on is not too comfortable, but now they are great! Love the Goucho brown tone - can be very versatile. I think these will be great, time will tell with the break in process - but love them so far.

Thanks to all the Zappistas who warned that there would be some initial breaking in necessary. There was some resistance when I first pulled on these boots, but just a few hours later they feel like I've worn them for years. Now they are super comfortable and extremely stylish and I feel like I've won the boot lottery. They look and feel great, and you won't be sorry you bought them. Just pay the $ and enjoy.

The quality is obvious right out of the box. The boots are solid and substantial. Had to order the second pair to get the size right, ordered up a half size and went with the the W for extra width across the toe box. As others have said in reviews, it is certainly a challenge to get these on, but is does get a bit easier after some wear. Easy off but truly a trial to put on. Offers great support and foot protection while wearing if you do barn chores like I do. Apply a little waterproofing oil and these Fryes will last a very long time. A bit pricy but the quality is there. A good boot, indeed.

I wear a 6½ in all heels, flats and sandals. Boots and running shoes I wear a 7. With Fryes I typically stick to a 6½. These shoes fit well in length and width. My issue is I have a high arch and the top of the boot runs on the bone (top of foot) depending on the sock that I wear. I have to wear thin socks with these. If I wanted thicker socks I would size half up to a 7. Otherwise this is a super high quality boot. I own about eight pairs of Fryes and I love these just as much as the others. I wear them with skinny jeans, leggings, and shorts. I have not quite worn them with a skirt yet but I imagine that I will. Get them. You will not regret it.

These boots are incredibly comfortable and well made. These particular style are made in the US, as opposed to the Veronica Slouches I have that were made in Mexico, and they feel and look like a much higher quality boot.

Okay so I am finally writing a review for these awesome boots! I've had these babies for 3 years and I'm more in love with them with every wear. Like other reviewers I used mole skin to help against the inside tag chafing my leg. Of course this was naturally avoided when I'm wearing taller socks. I find myself wearing this with skinny jeans and not dresses since my calves are really large and the top of the shaft ends exactly where my calves start so it looks odd. A useful tip i found to accelerate the break in process was to place the end of a broom stick into the part of the boot where outside of my foot hit and bend the boot over the stick. I kept at it for both sides (outer foot and inner foot where there would be potential blistering) and the constant bending help soften the boot. I recommend patience with this boot because I get compliments every time i step out of the house! The gaucho color is great and with weather protectant these will last beyond my lifetime!

I decided to write a review after owning these boots for over 2 years. Bought them in the summer of 2011 after searching endlessly for a pair of boots that were well made, moderately priced, and would work with most outfits. I am beyond impressed with the Engineers. They are very sturdy, a bit heavier then you would expect, actually. I've worn them with everything from the usual jeans and chunky sweater, to a casual dress, even a skirt. I got them in black and my husband, having just polished them for me, commented that he loves the look and feel of my boots, and wants a pair for himself! The only downside is that each pair is not perfectly shaped, so sometimes it's more difficult getting your foot in or out of one of the boots. I had this problem with both feet when I first received my boots, but after a dozen or so wears they were fine. I cannot recommend Frye boots more, you will not be disappointed!

I was on the fence about this boot because the photo does not do the boot justice. I saw the video for Zappos and on the model the boots looked mammoth, so I thought my 10.5 - 11 foot would look monstrous. Well the boots came which I ordered in greasy black, and I tried it on. I am a true 10.5 (jinxed) so I always have to size up or down. It's difficult to know what size to get. In this case 11 seem to be perfect in width and length. Surprisingly, this boot did not look clunky or bulky, but flattering. The 12 r is the right height and it is slimming on my foot. The rubber heel seems perfect and gives a lot of grip. I hesitated on black, as it seemed the color was harsh, but it's stunning. Not a feminine girly boot, but not masculine either. The shape is very comfortable. It was a little stiff but not uncomfortable. One of the boots seemed to have a defect in the upper arch area (top of foot not bottom) but the other boot was fine. The awesome people who work in Zappos sent me another pair, and how cool, all that consideration, I can mail the other set back within two weeks. The only thing is that I do like the Frye anniversary style of this boot, and I ordered it from Frye and I will be comparing both the anniversary edition and the new set I get from Zappos. I like the USA made boots so far the best, I have a harness 12 r in full grain, and a campus short boot. These boot will be super comfy in less then two weeks. They were comfortable out of the box, just stiff, but I know it's good quality leather that will mold to my foot. It seems I can wear it with boot pants or skirts, or leggings. Frye is expensive, but I am tired of spending 80$ on cheap boots that wear out in two years, I wear through the soles or the boots warp on one side. This seems strongly made, not elegant, but stylish. Can ride your motorcycle or go to a PTA meeting in them. Hoping the second set doesn't have defects. If so Zappos is awesome, and I can return them, they credit your account so fast. Frye is also great to order from directly. I have tried Carmen harness it was too cowboy girly chick for me. I love the Vera short also but I like that more for dressy occasions not baseball games and chasing toddlers. But it is also awesome if you are on the fence between a Vera short, and the engineer. If you are choosing between a harness and an engineer, forget it, just save up and get 'em both, they both are awesome.

These boots are so chic! I got them in black - they make my legs look so thin when worn with jeggings! If you are an anorak lover, these boots will definitely boost your outfit! One downside is that they weren't as comfortable when I first put them on - probably because they are not broken in yet.
