I think these are great boots. They break in pretty quickly after one wearing. I usually wear a 7.5 or 8.0 and got the 8.0 in these and they are perfect. They look great with skinny jeans. I received them the next day with a free upgrade to my standard shipping choice too!

Awesome boots! Agree with others that a little bit to get on at first, but very little break-in period. Really warm. Was afraid I would need the insoles as others suggested, but more comfortable than I thought they would be. The sole will be good for bad weather and gripping on snow/ice. This is one boot that looks good with skirts or jeans.

Love them! They look even better in person! They are hard to get on, I was sweating like a pig! But once I got them one they felt great! I wore them in Las Vegas up and down the strip and no hurting! They are easier to get on each time I wear them. I need a pair in black now! Zappos is great!

This is my third pair of these boots. I bought two brown pair and one black pair! I LOVE them SO much. I wear them all the time. They are so comfortable to wear all day long! I am considering ordering a pair with the taller shaft. I'm addicted.

Like many others who have posted about this boot before me, I have wanted a pair of Frye boots for years, but for some inexplicable reason, I waited until now to buy my first pair. I can only say that I will not wait so long to buy my next pair. I bought these in the Gaucho leather and absolutely love them. They are super cute and look great with my boot cut jeans. The biggest issue for me was deciding on the size to order since many of the posts seem a bit contrary: size up or size down? I normally wear a size 7 or 7.5 shoe and thought I should order the 7.5 since I have a very high instep and was concerned about getting the boot on without a side zipper. This pair slipped on surprisingly easily, but the shoe bed felt a bit too big. I then ordered the 7 to compare. (And thank you Zappos for upgrading my order to free priority shipping - love that.) As surprised as I was to be able to slip on the 7.5's, I was shocked that I couldn't even squeeze my feet past the shaft into the 7's. I tried multiple times over several days, but to no avail; it was like they had been made by an entirely different company. I returned them and then promptly wore the 7.5's for several grueling hours of traipsing through downtown San Francisco with my 17-year old daughter on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, searching for the "perfect" winter ball dress. It was cold and crowded, but my feet were happy campers. These boots were very comfortable and any concern about them being too big disappeared completely. I don't know if my daughter would say that she found the perfect dress, but I know that I have found the perfect boot. Bottom line: super cute, super comfortable, and amazing craftsmanship. Order a half-size up if you have a high instep; a little looseness in the shoe bed/heel feels natural when you get used to it and sounds about right per others who have posted with more boot experience than me.

Fits like a glove around my tiny size 0 legs. Quite sexy and badass. Breaking them in didn't hurt as much as I anticipated. I find this length and color (gaucho) to be very unique-looking. Amazing boots.

I was unsure what size to order. I normally wear a size 8, but wanted the option of wearing thicker socks if I wanted to. I ordered a half size large - these are perfect! I adore these boots. They were a little tight getting my foot started because I have a high instep, but once in, they could not be more comfortable. I am going back to order another color. Love them!

Been wanting these boots for a few years and finally decided to get them. Loved the look without being too cowboy. At first I got 7 1/2's but didn't feel right. Returned for 7's and noticed that it was much more difficult to get my foot in them than I thought, but based on the previous reviews I heard that it's normal. I went ahead and bought moleskin for the inside shaft and a shoe stretcher for my right foot. I noticed both helps but also after a few wearings, the leather softens and becomes much more comfortable so looking forward to have my wide foot fit perfectly! The sole of the shoe is remarkable, I had no idea how comfortable it is! I can see myself wearing these babies for a very long time and each time I know they'll get better and better. If you're hesitant about these boots, don't give up, keep trying and they won't disappoint. Plus they look awesome with skinny jeans tucked in!

I love these boots and wear them all the time, mostly with tights and dresses. I didn\'t have the issue of getting them on and off that others have mentioned, but I do have skinnier calves for my body type. I did have the initial issue of the back of the top cuff of the boot rubbing against my bare skin while breaking in but it eventually softened. I bought some moleskin but never needed to use it. I\'m a 7.5 to an 8 and ordered a 7.5 and they fit perfectly. And they are so comfortable to wear. As good on a day out walking as my sneaks but more stylish. Highly recommended!

I've had these boots for a few weeks now and I love them. I'm a 7 1/2 W and went with an 8 in the Gaucho color, which fit well. It was borderline painful to get these on the first time I tried them on. I would highly recommend conditioning these well if you decide you want them. The leather comes very dry and cracks easily otherwise. I conditioned them three times before I first time I tried to wear them and again after every couple wears. The leather is starting to turn into butter. Be prepared for some tender heels if you tend to heel-strike after more than a few hours of wear the first couple of times you take these out for a spin. There is a little slip in the heel, but it's negligible to their comfort level. I have wide calves, about 16" or 17" and 5'6", but since the shaft is shorter, it ends right below my calves and looks great with pretty much everything I own.

These boots ROCK! After having foot surgeries, I needed a comfortable pair of boots to wear year round and these fit the bill. They are high quality, comfortable, and I like them with skirts and tights as well as with jeans. I wanted a boot that was comfortable in the calf. I only had to wear these 2-3X before they broke in nicely. The leather is gorgeous - a rich black, darker than the photos here. I usually wear an 8.5, but I chose a 9 and this worked out best. Wear dark knee high socks or tights unless you don't care about the dark polish rubbing off. If you have a medium-to-wide foot, avg. arch, these will be very comfy!

These are the boots I've been waiting for all my life! Go ahead laugh, but these are SO versatile, SO sturdy, SO good lookin', that I'm loving them. I think of them as a great investment for the price, since I will get so much use out of them. My advice though: contrary to some reviews I've read saying that Frye’s run a little big, I was DEFINITELY a size 8 in these, even though I wear a 7.5 or even a 7 in other shoes. Boots need a little extra room in any case since the leather is so stiff, but especially since you slip these on (no zippers or anything), there isn't much room to give at first. As I've been wearing them in the leather is loosening up though, and they are becoming more and more comfortable. And I was able to wear them for a whole day the very first time I tried them on though, which is a testament to their comfort.

Most comfortable Frye boot - I love my Frye harness boots, but wanted something with a round toe to change up from the Harness square toe. I have tried on the Frye Campus, Veronica Slouch, and the Maxine Campus and must say that the Engineer 12R is the most comfortable of all. The sole is very cushioned to walk on and width is not as narrow as the other boots. A bit hard first couple of times putting on, but seems it would have been easier as they were worn. A bit stiff, but again, seems they were conforming with the little bit I wore them around the house to try them out. Alas though, I am returning because one side's shaft is a bit shorter than the other side. I would have exchanged for another pair if my size had been available. They are a great boot, good foot protection, very cushioned when walking, very fashionable, look great with jeans and skirts and mid calf fits well for bigger calved gals. With the exception of my Harness boots, the other styles were taller shaft and fit very snug around my calves, no room to breathe.

Dream boots - I have been thinking about buying the Frye Engineers for awhile, in order to have a boot that could stand up to some weather but still be cute. Finally I asked for them for Christmas and I have been smiling every time I see my feet since then! These boots are fairly rugged but they're also attractive. I was afraid they'd be too chunky but they actually look very feminine in a cool way. They were surprisingly comfortable right out of the box; I was expecting some break-in time (based on my other Fryes) but they have a nice cushioned insole and they didn't hurt my feet at all (and I went walking around in the city the first day and the entire first week I wore them!). A little hard to pull on just because the arch is stiff; slightly wider across the toe box than some other Fryes, which I appreciate because my feet are a bit wide at the front. Also love the adjustable buckle at the top; I didn't believe it would actually make a difference, but my calves are a little wide and these fit just right.

Frye Engineer boots - These boots are awesome. I found them cheaper here than anywhere else and the free overnight shipping is a real bonus!!!

Great boots - These boots are great. They don't take much breaking in, but if you wear them with short socks or no socks, the back seam might hurt at the top. I solved this by wearing taller socks or tights and by putting a little bit of first aid tape over the part of the seam that rubbed. Voila. Perfect. They look great with skirts or with pants.

I had been in serious lust with these boots for a year or more before finally placing my order. I must say that these boots were definitely worth the wait! The fit is true to size and I have noticed a tiny bit of stretching during the break-in period but that is remedied with a thicker sock. No rubbing or blistering except on the calf area where the Frye tag is located. Very comfy but I do recommend gel innersoles for long hours of walking and a generous slathering of mink oil to protect as well as soften the leather. The construction is superb and I look forward to many years of wear with these fabulous boots.

The only problem is that they rub your shins or calf unless you wear knee or tube socks. I think this may lessen as they wear in. Have had many compliments already, and they look great with jeans or broomstick skirts. I like to mix the femme and rugged in one look. Worth the money as I know they will last forever! I had my Fryes from high school(class of 77) for over twenty years!

Amazing! Love these boots. Well made, sexy with skirts or pants. I bought my usual size, and they fit perfectly. They are a bit of a tug to get on, but not bad. Totally worth the $$! I may get the black, too...

Coolest boots on the planet - They look just like the photo...only better. The size is accurate - don't stray from your regular shoe size. They are just worn enough to look not so brand new and the heel height is perfect. Plus the price on Zappos was $100 less than other sites!

My favorite Frye ever! Great look and the most comfortable Frye I own (have belted harness clog, harness boot, and a slim to-the-knee less clunky boot). I wear a 8.5 in the harness boot and bought an 8.5 in this also. Perhaps a bit roomy, but works with all thicknesses of socks and has room for an insole. It’s very comfortable, more so than the harness style, which pinches my little toes a bit. Very comfortable from the start. I can even wear them barefoot without chafing. I have washed and waterproofed them and they look even better slightly worn and distressed. Perfect heel height for style and comfort. Goes great with skirts and jeans, and the brown looks great with all my black outfits too. I hate to take them off!

What a great boot - After much thought, I finally bought this boot. True to size and comfortable, for a boot anyway. I love this boot, and I know these boots will probably be my mine shoe!
