A boot that fits! Great boot for me, my foot is wide, most other boots feel so tight. It helps that the toe box is bigger so a minimum of breaking in days. I've tried a lot of boots. Glad this is made here in the US.

Frye Delivers! I am a long time wearer of Frye boots, back to the 70's. They wear like iron, and I know this boot will do the same. The funky style appealed to me (looks great with my pants and long skirts) and the quality didn't disappoint. I have a large calf and was worried the stack wouldn't fit...voila! Success! The best part? The FAST delivery and the price. This exact same boot is listed at over $200 in the Sundance catalogue...and I bet the service and the exchange /return policy there is no where near as timely! Go Zappos, you have me hooked!

This is my sixth pair of Frye boots and the sizing and fit have been consistent. My foot length is actually a 6, with a narrow heel, so a 5.5 in Frye's works pretty well. The top/instep of the Engineer, however, is a little snug, about where the buckled strap crosses over. This wasn't a problem, even after being on my feet for several hours. The gaucho color is a great blend of black and brown and versatile. This is a great boot for running around in leggings or narrow jeans, too. Zappos as usual delivered in two days at no extra charge!

Engineer Boot - Great look and feel. Not excessively heavy. Hard to get on with some socks, but OK with most.

I saw these boots in an upscale store and Zappos price was considerably better! I bought them and the delivery was extremely fast. The boots are beautiful. I wear a size 6 and bought my regular size because I knew I'd wear socks. While they are a bit loose in the heel, with winter-worthy socks they are a great fit. The color is simply beautiful and these boots are going to be awesome with my long skirts. I've worn them around the house for hours tonight and though they were stiff at first, they feel great now - no blisters. Not too hard to get on and off either - maybe the first couple of times. Highly recommended!

My Favorite Fall Find!!! It took me 3 months to finally commit to a Frye style and I reluctantly chose these instead of the engineer slouch due to price constraints...I love these!! They are the perfect length for jeans and skirts!! Very fast shipment!! I am in love with them and will wear them all Winter!!

Nice boots but... I have several pairs of Frye boots and I love them all. I was surprised when I got these (I have them in black) because they are soo hard to pull on. They fit great once you get into them, and they come off easy enough, but a real struggle to get into.

Woe to the short and larger calved woman... So I have a 15.5" calf, the cause of much consternation and distress when shopping for taller boots. My options are either a cheesy "stretch" faux leather style or a "wide-calf" category boot, which does nothing for my very narrow ankles. A while back I found some really cute black Double H low (8") harness boots, and these are great with jeans but not so cute with skirts. I searched high and low for something similar, slightly taller and brown, and after spying these Frye boots in a catalog (for a lot more $$), I eventually found them at Zappos (yay!). When they arrived, I determined the look is exactly what I wanted, but the color seemed a bit muddier than online. The distressed leather smell was a bit off-putting too, but I figured they'll be on my feet, not near my nose! The left boot slipped on like a dream, but the right was a struggle which left me cursing (odd, as my right foot is smaller). Once I had them on, I looked in the mirror and to my horror, the top of the boot comes exactly to the spot on my calves where they curve out. So, even though there was plenty of room between my leg and the boot, it gave the illusion that my leg was spilling out and over the top. Granted, my legs are pretty pale right now, but all in all, it wasn't the look I was going for, so these are going back. But, not one to give up, I'm going to try some taller versions once I'm refunded for these, and maybe they'll be stretchable (Veronica slouch or Campus 12L?). Oh, and I ordered these on Tuesday AM and had them by Wednesday around noon! Absolutely amazing service...

These boots are so beautiful, but I would need foot surgery to wear them. I don't know what kind of foot could be small enough to fit through the ankle part, and yet big enough to fill up the shoe part. I have high arches and the accompanying high bridge and wide fore-foot. If you do too, then these boots are NOT for you.

Not difficult to get on imo; felt like a metal bar under my foot where heel transitions to outsole and jabbed the bottom of my foot just where my arch starts. Great boot, fit perfectly, but not well constructed consistently. Right foot - perfect. Left foot- disappointing and uncomfortable. It’s a gamble with these. Sadly, returning.

The only issue I have with the boot is that is is very difficult to pull on. Tight across the instep getting your foot in. Once its on no issues. I have a slender foot so its puzzling. It would be great if they put some side zips in their boots.

Absolutely love these boots and have wanted them forever. I tried them on rgt away, my right foot went in the boot just fine but I could Not get my left foot even halfway down the shaft. So SAD!! I know my left is a little bigger but not that much. I wore the right boot around for a few minutes and I did notice it was really rubbing under my outside ankle bone. I’m sadly returning them, I can’t keep them just to look at.

It always takes me a bit to fit comfortably in these shoes- I'm still working out the kinks, but once I break them in, they should be fine.

I loved the look of these boots but was a bit worried about the break in from the reviews. I wear a lot of clog and mule styles so my heel skin is not very tough. My size is always a 7 in shoes and boots so I went with it and wore a tall heavy sock to protect my heel. The right boot was slightly tighter over the top of my foot which was annoying. A bit snug with the heavy socks but I wore them all day with no blisters. I have been covering the boot foot with a towel and stepping on the toes to soften up the leather quicker. Of all things, the most irritating was a spot on the inside at the top of the shaft about where the top buckle is. I had to keep pulling my sock up to cover the skin on my leg. I do believe these quirks will work themselves out with wear. The excess dye on the inside also came off on my socks. It seems from what I have read is that the Frye boots can be pretty cruel out of the box and need some workarounds in the break in but after that everyone loves them.

I noticed a lot of mixed reviews before I ordered but was pleasantly surprised with the fit. I was also concerned with the 12” height because I have large calves, but they come up to just below the calf muscle, so they look and feel great.

This was the third pair of Frye boots I tried and these were just what I wanted. I consistently wear a 7.5 and these were a great fit, not too much slippage. They are comfortable. I wear a thin ankle sock with these and use a plastic bag to help me get them on. They are unlined so the foot doesn't slide in easily. The mid calf height is so cute! They stand up on their own and do not slouch. The black leather is matte. The rounded toe is feminine and not clunky. The buckles add an edgy style.

I love these. I have another pair of Frye boots and they are consistently well made, comfortable and stylish. At first there is always a spot that is wearing not as comfortably as I like - but it's leather so it will form perfectly after about 5-10 good long wears. Same is true with this pair. They are warm, not too heavy but durable and the left foot is pressing on the top of my foot a bit more than I'd like. But even after three times wearing them it's forming and getting more comfortable.

Frye means quality. True to size. Good arch support and oh, so comfortable. They hit right below the widest part of my 16 inch calf and look flattering. This has always been an issue for me with athletic wide calves. I can wear them over or under my slim jeans or shirts. I am in love with these boots. I wear them to work and run around for 10 hours plus in any weather. I am about to order another that dont get beat up from work.

These boots are incredible. They do require breaking in, with initial difficulty sliding my feet into them. Once I got my feet in, they felt like they were home. High quality materials. It is not often that I think of my size 12 footwear as cute, but these are! The width is good for my slightly wide feet. There is sufficient wiggle room in the toe box, which is the way that it is supposed to be. I am looking forward to years of enjoying these. Why did I wait so long?

First, let me say Zappos has hands-down the best customer service around. So glad I shopped for these with Zappos. On to the boots: I'm a size 8, slightly wide feet, and already have another pair of Frye boots (my Frye Harness 12Rs fit beautifully as soon as I got them). The Engineers are gorgeous and I love them, but I learned that there is a huge range of variability in size and fit and had to try on a few pairs to find one that fit. I first tried my normal size, since it worked for my Harness. One boot fit, the other didn't so I went up a half size. I had to try on a few pairs because some would slip on easily, others would barely go over my foot. I ended up calling Frye and they said of all their boots, the Engineer will only stretch a small amount, less than a quarter of an inch, so they recommended trying on another pair. So glad I did -- finally found a pair that fit, that didn't take an army to pull on, and didn't kill the tops of my feet. It's a pair of beautiful boots all around.

These boots might be the best $258 I've ever spent. I bought them for a trip to Colorado to be able to ride horses. Upon receipt, they were a little snug/narrow. It required some significant stretching with a stretcher and multiple pairs of socks to get them to loosen up. I finally broke them in by getting them wet and letting them dry while I was wearing thick socks. The area I live in has seen more snow this year than normal - way more. Uggs keep my feet warm, but they're not water resistant. I love my rain and snow boots, but they're not always work appropriate. I threw these on one day for lack of any other options and I was shocked. I stopped slipping and sliding in the snow, and despite walking through sigificant snow for extended periods of time - walking the dog through 1 1/2' deep snow for 30 minutes, my feet have stayed dry. I never expected these to be my go-to bad weather boots, but they are now. Highly, highly recommended. And, once broken in, they're pretty comfortable!

This boot fit beautifully. It was a bit hard to get into at first, in a wool sock: I have a wide foot with a high instep, usually wear a 6, and ordered my usual size. The leather is firm, but of high quality and supple, and each time I put them on it got much easier. This boot will become "yours" like an old fashioned pair of jeans and will last forever. I was surprised it fit so well as often shoes are too "small" for me even in my proper size, because of the high instep and wide forefoot. I did decide to return them, however, for a funny reason others should consider. I am not tall (5'1") and, though I'm a size zero, my calves are, proportionally, huge (as in sometimes I can't buy skinny jeans because I can't get them over my calves). The shaft of the boot came up about 2-3 inches too high, and sat beneath the wide part of my calf, so that it was unflattering. I don't think this would be an issue for tall girls, or those with slim legs. So, beautiful fit, beautiful boot, lifetime quality, but a little higher than an ankle boot.

Gorgeous boots. They look great once you break them in (the leather doesn't look so stiff). They were a bit tight on my feet (I wear a 9.5 and have really wide feet). I had trouble putting the shoes on and taking them off as well. I had them stretched in the instep and they pull on much easier. The black color rubs off on light colored socks, so wear dark ones!
