Love my Frye boots! Bought my first pair 20 years ago, still my favorite boot. Wanted a short pair so I got these. They do take time to break in but once you do you never want to take them off! These are so cute with skinny jeans and Maxi dresses.

I really love these boots. They look and feel great. I read that most people have a hard time getting them on but I didn't have any problem, even with my high arches. I have a size 10 foot so maybe that made a difference...a larger boot size might equal a larger opening to insert the foot. Super fast shipping too...thanks Zappos!

Absolutely love these boots! I ordered a half-size up and am glad I did. They fit perfectly with room for socks. This short-shaft boot is perfect for me because I have really thick calves, and most boots don't fit. These hit low enough that the fit is not a problem and the top buckle conceals an area that stretches/flexes as you move. I've been wearing them on and off for about a week, and once broken-in they're totally comfortable. Awesome boots - well worth the price!

Really like these boots! Now that their broken in I wear them all the time. I live on a ranch and love the fact that these boots are not only "Hip" but highly functional. My heels slipped a bit the first couple times I wore them, (hence my "felt a half size larger" comment) but by having the option to tighten down the straps helps alot. I am very happy with my purchase and as always Zappos reigns supreme!

I got these in exchange for a pair of 12R black Engineers that were too large. I wanted something that hit lower on the the calf and since I already have a pair of go to black boots (Frye of course) I figured I would get a pair in Gaucho. These are fantastic! they have become my new everyday boot. They look great with a skirt or with skinny jeans and they are so comfortable! much more so than the Frye harness boots I have (even though I still love them) the more rounded toe on these makes all the difference comfort wise. the color is great, a rich brown with lots of beautiful natural variations. A few things to note for those buying these for the first time. I have noticed that for me, Frye boots run about 1/2 a size too large (I am a 10.5 and the size 10 fit me perfect just like my harness boots). I have average width feet so if yours are wide or narrow it may be different for you. Overall I say these are a fantastic purchase. They are gorgeous, comfortable and with the classic Frye craftsmanship these are going to last a very very long time.

I closed my eyes and clicked the button at Zappos - the price and all the reviews about the pain, but I had to try this boot. And (super fast as only Zappos can be) the boots were here and I slipped right in. No bending, no twitching, no tricks necessary - and they are getting even more comfy every day! Needless to say they are super cute with dresses and cool with jeans. They look like good craftsmanship, so that they will last years, justifying the price.

I returned the first pair of these boots, got a 1/2 size larger, and these are now my favorite shoes ever. I know the sizing is bizarre, but once you find your size it's totally worth it. Excellent!

Love these boots. Have worn them every single day since I got them, to every kind of event - dressy, casual and in between! And I'm a stiletto gal, so this is weird for me! And I'm "old" - 56! Get them - you won't be sorry. Fit perfectly, comfortable, easy to get on, gorgeous, go with everything, etc.

In my experience these run small so order up a half size if your foot is at all wide. I was coveting these boots for years and I had tried them on in NYC in my normal size of 8 but they were too narrow (my foot is wide plus I have a bunion and generally sensitive feet). The store was annoyingly unhelpful so I left without trying other sizes. Then I saw them on sale on Zappos and tried the 8.5. They fit great but I was concerned about the top shaft of the boots. They seemed too narrow when looking at them straight-on, like stove-pipes. I think they had been flattened in the box so I put the cardboard inserts that came with the boots in sideways for a couple days. They reshaped into a rounder proportion so now I'm very pleased. They look best with a super skinny jean but also work with a boot cut pulled over the boots. The insole is padded and comfortable, the toe box is roomy. The quality of these boots is remarkable, hand made in the USA with thick, matte black leather. They are much higher quality than the similar Frye boots that are made in Mexico and are higher priced. I can easily see these lasting a lifetime. I gave them 4 stars for comfort because they're heavy and will need some breaking in. I probably won't wear them if I need to walk a lot. But for going out to a gig they look amazing! Stoked to finally have my dream boots!

I take back what I wrote about not being able to get my foot in the boot! It is still a bit of an effort, but I did what other people here suggested. Step into the boot, and use a long shoehorn. Perfect! and the boots are so comfortable.

I love these boots, but they are just not right for me. I think I need a half-size larger; they seem to run a bit small and the wide ankle just doesn't flatter me. Darn! I really needed a new durable pair of Fryes. I may try the taller size.

I really like the look of these boots and would recommend them to anyone. It takes a couple of days to break them in. With inner soles added, they are comfortable to wear all day. They were a little difficult to get on at first due to stiff leather, but again after couple of days they a much more pliable.

I was a little nervous about the initial comfort factor from previous reviews; however, I am in love with these boots and wish I hadn't put off purchasing them for so long! The short shaft is great for my height (5') and the styling is incredibly flattering. I can tell that these are going to take quite a bit of breaking in (which shouldn't be a problem, I bought them as my "walking shoes" for a month-long trip to Europe) but they're comfortable right off the bat - just a little stiff.

These are my favorite boots ever! They are very cute and I always get compliments on them. They are also very durable and comfortable, and have served me well while at many rock concerts and even camping. I've had mine for over 2 years now, and they feel like buttah! It does take a little bit of time to break them in, but it's so worth it. You may need to order a half size up if you have wide feet or high arches.

Love these boots. The craftsmanship is excellent and well worth the price. Unfortunately, they did run about a half size small for me so they are going back. Luckily, I found a size 8 in the smoke color and have ordered those as well, they fit perfect. Please note, these boots should slip in the heel; if they are snug in the heel, they are too small.

I adore these boots. Bought them awhile ago and wear them with everything like skirts, jeans, shorts. They were my number one choice walking around Paris. They break in almost immediately and fit like a dream. Plus the more you wear them the better the leather looks. I did put some gel pads in them just because I have high arches and they help.

Love these boots! They are incredibly comfortable and cute, especially with skinny jeans and leggings. The only little complaint I have is the Frye tag at the top of the boot is really scratchy so the first few times I wore them it rubbed my leg raw but it's nothing a little 'sticky moleskin pad' over the tag didn't cure!

I wore these boots straight out of the box at a parking lot fund raiser. Eight hours on my feet on pavement and they were comfortable to the end. When you buy Frye, you buy into their upstanding reputation. These boots are well made and worth every penny, in my opinion. Choose the same size you were as a sneaker and you can't go wrong, maybe a tad loose, but you will likely wear thicker socks.

I've been looking for a pair of low boots for awhile. Saw Biviel at Garnet Hill but they were out of my size (6). Then I went to Bloomy and tried on Vera Wang which were lovely. Again, my size was sold out. Then I came to Zappos and lo and behold, I got the last pair of gaucho size 6. Speedy Zappos got them to me so fast I couldn't believe it. Thanks everyone for the heads up on how hard it is to put these on! My right foot slipped in very well but my left, let me say I tried stepping into it (thanks for that tip), shoving my foot into it, tried pulling it on on my back. Nothing. I didn't want to give up as I got the last pair of 6! So, I stuck my hand in the boot, tried to loosen the instep (the instep is pretty narrow) and finally got my foot in. Then I pressed my ball joint (lift the heel) and stretched it out. Next, I put the boot on and off a few times repeating the whole step, lift process. I won! The left boot is now at my mercy. Whahahaha! So if you are having trouble, maybe my stretching method may help? Gotta say, they are super cute, the perfect height to go with everything. I'm only 5'2 and these are very flattering. Highly recommended to those who are up for a little physical challenge.

I have wanted a pair of Frye Engineer boots for a while. I have been looking at different brands trying to find a similar style... but decided that the original will be better quality. The hardest part was deciding which height I wanted. I'm 5'2 and just wasn't sure. But I decided to get the 8R because I thought this height would look great with both pants and dresses/skirts. I ordered my boots on Friday and they were waiting for me when I got home on Tuesday as promised. A special thank you to Zappos for providing the tracking number, because for someone as impatient as me I liked knowing where my product was. When I received the boots I could barely get them on. Especially the left foot. I bought my regular size 9.5, but the boots were extremely difficult to put on and looked kinda long. I was very disappointed and even thought about sending them back. But I decided that I wouldn't give up on these babies just yet. The first day that I wore the boots I wore 2 pairs of socks. It was a little uncomfortable in the beginning, the left foot, but as the day went on, I almost got comfortable. The next day I decided that my feet needed a break and I wore just one pair of socks, and to my surprise I could put the right boot on without using my hands! It's been 3 days and the boots have started to mold to my feet and legs. I cannot live without these boots. I wore them with jeans, a dress, and a mini skirt. It's warm right now but these boots did not make my feet sweat at all. My feet were kept at a very comfortable temperature, nice and cozy. I'm so happy knowing that I decided to work a bit to make this long lasting, sturdy boot work with me. Absolutely in love, sooooo comfortable :)AMAZING, will never go out of style and thinking about all the times you'll wear them, $198 is not expensive at all.

The 8Rs are great! Love the shaft height, perfect for my skinny jeans and dresses. 1/2 size down for the best fit. Tough to get on at first but any bigger would be too large once on. Got them in smoke, nice worn leather look without being overdone.

I purchased these boots and I am in love! The boots fit wonderfully and they had my size(11). Frye boots are like your friends and they will stay around longer. The fit is as if they are made for you, find a pair you like and have a relationship. Zappos had my boots cheaper than the store I was shopping in and they had them to me quickly without me leaving my home. Overall, my experience was delightful and I will do it over and over again.

These Frye boots are perfect. Although they were very stiff (as Frye boots tend to be) I got them stretched at a cobbler in order to break them in faster. They look great with skinny jeans, leggings and also dresses. I love how low they are, and that they don't fit tight on my calf. I am thrilled with my purchase, and would not have been as likely to make such an expensive purchase online if Zappos did not have free shipping both ways.
