Painful. I love the look of this shoe. It does look very stylish and has a great shine to it. I have been complimented on them a few times. However, it is quite painful to wear. My ankle bones keep hitting the side of the shoe. So much that it's cutting into my skin and leaving blisters. Perhaps if you wear bulky socks that might not be an issue, but who is going to wear bulky shoes with nice dress shoes. It would look ridiculous. After first wearing them to work, I couldn't wait to get home and take them off because my feet were killing me. I know you have to break some shoes in, but breaking them in shouldn't equal blisters. Sad because this shoe is pretty expensive. This is a lot to spend on a shoe that hurts my feet. Obviously, I can't return it because I've worn it already, but I won't be wearing these often. It'd be cool if I could get a discount for a different shoe, but at the moment I'll take this one as a loss.

Worst shoe purchase ever. The left heel broke apart within two months, and so did the front of the sol. They look and feel cheap. They were stiff from day one to the day they broke. And they weren't cheap. For extra dollars I could have bought real shoes, sigh. Terrible purchase.

Never seen this before- the lace holes are too small! That's right, they punched holes, sort of, but not enough even for these tiny dress laces to poke through! Also, the soles on these wear out insanely fast ( I know, I keep buying what is supposed to be the exact same shoe).

DON'T BUY THEM! These are a good looking shoe, but they are super uncomfortable. The tops where your feet crease dig into your feet and the sides do the same to your ankle. The leather is very stiff and painful. There is decent arch support, but that is all this shoe has going for it. If I had known they were so uncomfortable I would not have bought them. Buyer beware!

I have a friend who swears by Bostonians...so I decided to give them a try. I ordered 11.5 EE Akrons and was impressed with the way they looked. They ran about a half a size larger than expected - but they were pretty comfortable, so I kept them. After wearing them three or so times, I noticed creases/cracks forming where the shoe bends when walking. This issue increased noticeably each day they were worn and even produced a white film in this area. After 20 days (Max) of wear - the thin rubber heels (less than 1/4 inch) were worn down to the wood. I've purchased quite a few dress shoes in the "inexpensive" category (70-150) and I must say, these wore out the quickest, by far. Pretty disappointed. I wish I could tag pictures.

I tend to always be the same size shoe, independent of brand, but this shoe did not fit. The crease on the top of the toe was extremely painful just walking around the living room trying the shoe on.

These looked great, I usually fit fine in any size 13. These however completely burned off skin on my left heel and I have been putting Band-Aids with Bacitracin on it for over a week and it is still raw. They look great, but are highly unrecommended for wearing.

Not the best Bostonian ever made... I felt this shoe was a good value for the price. It was not classy looking as I expected, a little cheap looking actually. But hey it is cheap, a dress shoe for under $100 you get what you get and I have no regrets. Although with the Bostonian name I expected slightly better quality.

Stiffest leather! My husband ordered this shoe because he wore Bostonians exclusively for years. NO MORE! He could not get over how stiff and unbending this shoe was. We got two sizes and I don't know which fit best. Both are going back.

Uncomfortable shoes that I could never break-in despite wearing to work each weekday. Soles wore away quickly and one shoe started making a clicking sound as I walked. Not worth purchasing.

Awful shoes. Wore them 10 times in the last few months thinking they'd break in more each time, but I was wrong. These shoes are cut too high and rub your ankle raw within an hour. Even with thicker socks, the cut and cheap leather do not make them worthy of their cost. Spend the extra money and get some Allen Edmonds Park Avenues (of which these Bostonian shoes are a design copy).

I am happy with the look and feel of the shoe. However I am very disappointed with what seems to be a lack of quality. On the second I wore the shoes the leather insole began to separate from the shoe and became very irritating. I did not expect the shoe to start falling apart after being worn two times. Very disappointing.

I was a loyal Bostonian customer. Initially the shoes fit fine, looked good, and gave me little trouble. After the first week, I started getting sharp pain over my right 5th toe (specifically the metatarsal phalangeal joint) where the top of the shoe pivots/bends at the start of any step. This was the first and only time I've had this pain, and it only occurs when I wear these shoes, but it leaves my foot hurting every time I wear them. They've been lying around, barely used, because of this. I wouldn't recommend getting these particular shoes. That doesn't reflect my opinion of Bostonian, because I have had very good experiences with their other shoes in the past, and I will probably try them again. It's just that I highly regret buying the Akron's.

Zappos service is great. Fast delivery as always. The shoes looked fine out of the box, Put them on, spent 10 minutes inside house, felt good. I went outside, my daughter had an honor night at school. I had them on even a full hour - two blisters. I read reviews carefully, overall - people had great experience. I am most seriously displeased. I never had blisters in my life. I am unable to return them now, I guess. I will never buy Bostonian again. This was my first and last time.

We'll be sending these back. The styling is fine, but the quality is terrible. The lace hole tore as my husband tried to tie the lace when trying them on.

I purchased two pair of Bostonian Akron one black and one burgundy in early December 2012. I had purchased Bostonian shoes in the past and had been satisfied with them. Not so with the Akron. They are cheaply made and fit poorly. The shoes created heel and anklebone blisters and took 7 wearings before they were even remotely comfortable. The inner sole is two piece, the top piece from the heel to mid foot is not securely attached and rolls up sometimes when I take my shoes off. Then to add to my disappointment I saw the Akron advertised at a local retailer cheaper than at Zappos. Disappointed all around.

These are the least comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I don't know how they get so many great reviews, but I don't think I'll wear these more than once. Some of the other reviews said they need to be broken in, but after a half a day walking through SF, my feet were the ones broken. I didn't want to return them because they were a gift, but now I'm sorry I didn't.

This is the worst dress shoe that I've ever owned. I am shocked at the positive reviews. I'm aware that shoes may need some break-in, but in these shoes for eight hours, I was bloody. I had to take pictures of my destroyed feet because the experience was so excruciating. Awful.

First, kudos to Zappos for terrific customer support when I had a complaint. These shoes looked good, though the super-high gloss was a bit much. After wearing them for a few hours around the house and the block to break them in, a crease formed on the top of both shoes and the plasticky patent finish began to crack and peel off. They never got wet. I consider this to rise to the level of a defect in design. I've seen other reviewers complain of exactly this fault and am surprised the more people have not encountered it.

My husband wore these one day and came home with blisters on the back of his foot. He has worn Bostonians many times, but never had this happen. So uncomfortable.

Looks great at first but, as others have noted, the finish starts to crack and peel off within hours of use. I would not recommend this shoe to anyone because of poor build quality.

Wore the shoes 1 day and the bonding (shiny black) started peeling off from the shoe. Returning for another brand.

Worst shoe ever. First off, my feet were instantly in pain. The top of the shoes cut into my ankle on the rear and both sides, and the crease is cutting into the top of the base of my big toe. I was willing to give them a shot at breaking in, but after six hours of wear the finish on the top of the shoe is peeling off. That's right: PEELING OFF! I had a pair of $30 shoes from Ross that did that after a few months, but I've never seen that from a $100 shoe, especially not on the first day of wear, sitting at a desk for most of it. I will say, however, that Zappos took care of this obvious defect and issued me a credit which I used towards a pair off Mezlan dress shoes. No more skimping on quality just to save a few bucks.
