The Nike Air Monarch IV fit great, feels supportive and looks sharp. However, my family calls them 'squeakers' instead of sneakers. After the first few days through the first week they started to squeak when I walked. They have not stopped since. Very noisy. Not sure why?

These are VERY noisy, squeaking with every step. Otherwise decent and allowed me to walk all over San Francisco for a week which is amazing for my poor old feet!

Zappos is great. I ordered one pair of Air Monarchs that squeaked (per the shoe's reputation). Zappos took it back with no questions, no extra charges, just as they promised. I am very happy with this company, highest possible praise for integrity.

Back in the late '90s, I worked as a massage therapist, and the Air Monarch 3s were the only shoe for being on your feet all day. Then, they changed them, and they lost the cushioning that made them so great. Well, these 4s brought it back! I'd been wearing Asics Cumulus Gel and Nike Lunarlon - lighter weight, but not as cushy, or as durable. These are heavier, but also sturdier and last longer. The new style is sweet - look less like old man shoes This is a great walking shoe, standing around shoe, and it's good at the gym. It falls into the extreme cushioning category, so runners may not like it, but it fills a niche that way too - it's neutral -it doesn't push you forward, it's neutral for pronation too. I wish they would make them look a little more dope.

These have been by go-to sneakers for years. VERY comfortable and the wide sizes fit me perfectly. That being said they have a MAJOR flaw (and have for as long as I can remember). After a few days the shoes begin to 'squeak' with every step. essentially the plastic material inside begins to make a noise as the loose padding rubs against it. It has with every pair I've owned (other reviews confirm this as well). Deducting 2 stars for this. Come on Nike! You've got a great sneaker here. It shouldn't be this hard to fix a recurring issue!

This is a good looking shoe but it took two weeks to break them in so they didn't hurt my toes. Worse than that they squeak and squeak with every step. It is annoying and almost embarrassing. I won't be buying these again.

I've worn these to do a LOT of walking for a handful of months, and I can concur with many of the opinions expressed regarding good comfort, good style, but very noisy. And I have a tip. DRY YOUR SHOES' INSIDES. I recently had to walk in the rain, and the creaking got much worse. Put them on my Peet shoe dryer overnight, and the creaking was GONE. It's gradually come back as sweat from my feet add trace moisture to the shoes. I imagine this has something to do with either the insole or the full-length comfort air feature. So try keeping the insides dry, see if that helps. Hoping Monarch V eliminates that design flaw.

I have been wearing Air Monarchs for many years but lately they are making a lot of noise when I walk. They have become so loud that I cannot wear them. I sent them back to Nike and the only reply I got was that it is because of normal wear! They did not offer anything. I have had a few pairs of the Monarchs that squeak I am done buying shoes that do not last. No more Nikes for me. Do not buy these shoes unless you want to be embarrassed when you walk past someone.

Nike Air Monarch IV in white/black/varsity red is a very comfortable sneaker. The width is just right. I have had problems in the past with width'being too narrow and taking months to stretch out, but these are not tight at all. Even the toes fit well. I just wish Nike would make less white and make it blue with little white. Zappos is where I will look for sneakers again. They also have nice customer service representatives on Facebook.

I have owned several pairs of the Nike Air Monarch and the comments about them squeaking or grunting is true; however, it all goes away if you pull up the insole and douse it with baby powder or equivalent and there are times (months) that I may have to repeat that. I love them because they are a comfortable shoe which survives two daily mile and a half walks up and down hills in Oregon. My only complaint is that after six month or so, they seem to get what I call a fatigue factor so I have to buy a new pair. At the sale price, that is probably reasonable, but I always expect more. Because I have high arches, I need to add different insoles, but that is true for every shoe that I wear, no matter what brand.

I bought these shoes to replace the Air Monarchs I wore because my old ones were beat up. The shipping was quick. Only problem is I had to break the shoe on my left foot in for some reason. After a couple of months of wear they are perfect. I'm considering an all-black pair to match my work clothes.

If these shoes weren't so damn comfortable I would have switched brands years ago. I walk 30-40 miles/week and inevitably, they squeak after a month or two. I return them as defective, Zappos sends me another pair and the cycle continues. I figure if Nike doesn't mind replacing defective shoes, I'll stick with them because, seriously, there's no other shoe I could put on right out of the box and walk 7 miles.

I have wide feet and these sneakers really feel comfortable. My wife states that they look like old man shoes. However, what they make lack in looks they more than make up in comfort!!

My son needed black shoes for his job. He wore dress shoes the first day and complained about how sore his feet were. I logged on to Zappos and read review until I found this pair of shoes and ordered them for him. He got them, and wore them within three days. He loves them, and says they are the most comfortable shoes he owns. The price was right too!

My job requires me stand for 8 hours and walk anywhere from 6-8 miles daily. Shoes must be all black. I have worn the New Balance 623 series for about 8 years and just switched to the Nike Monarch. What an amazing difference. The monarch offers excellent cushioning, stability, and support with a great non-slip outer sole. If you have been wearing New Balance for work, make the switch to the Air Monarch and you won't be disappointed.

First, let me say I love these shoes. I have bought this same model of shoes for the past 7+ years. I currently have 3 pairs in my house for varying levels of dirty work. But I will agree with other reviewers that these shoes squeak...a lot. But I have a solution for that. I first tried dusting them inside and out with talcum powder. It helped, but didn't fix the problem, and the squeaks got worse. What finally worked was to carefully peel the liner out of the shoes and then liberally dust with talcum/baby powder. Perfectly silent ever since that day.

I have to put insoles in almost all the shoes I were to get enough padding and support. The alos can't have too much tilt from back to front. These shoes in the are excellent in the wide and there is plenty of padding on the sides and top. The only problem with the monarch is that after a while they will develop a squeak and it will never go a way. Just have to buy a new pair.

Update: to eliminate the squeaking sound, just remove the insole and sprinkle some baby powder inside. It works like a charm.

I've been wearing Air Monarchs for years. Nike shoes just seem to fit my arches well and Air Monarchs are one of the few shoes Nike produces in a width that works for me. They are durable and VERY comfortable. My only complaint is that gosh-awful squeak they develop shortly after breaking in. I've had not a single pair that didn't squeak. That's the only thing keeping me from offering a five star rating. If you can tolerate that, and I've chosen to, these are fine shoes.

It's true what others said about one or both shoes being defected. My left shoe makes a awful sneaking and crunching sound when I walk in it or press on the bottom of the shoe. A defected air sole would be my guess. I have no clue why only the black ones would have this problem and not the other colors. I love the style and the fact it is made for wide feet but not happy at all about the defected shoe.

I bought these shoes for my friend from Afghanistan because he wanted all black shoes. They arrived in a timely manner, but he didnt like them because they were too wide. But they are probably perfect for someone who wants a wide base.

Great shoes and fit. Recently, I was diagnosed with Planar Fasciitis and the Nike brand was recommended to me. They have also great support. I had purchased a 4 E shoe width. You may want to consider them especially if you are experiencing the same problem as I had.
