I have trusted Arcteryx products to keep me alive and warm for almost 8 years now and it's rare I write a review. I am 6'1" 180lbs with an average size torso to give a reference to the picture. Pros: I have worn the Jacket in the alpine about a dozen times now and it has treated me very well. I've had it on while climbing cracks and rubbing against chimneys and it has not shown any wear at all. Had four hours of heavy rain on an approach in RMNP and stayed completely dry. This is one of the lightest shells I've had that has the durability to handle several days of harsh alpine conditions. It packs down to about 1.5 liters when you tuck everything into the hood and smash it into a pack. The hood is easy to adjust over a around a helmet and not impede your vision at all. Overall awesome lightweight shell that I trust to do its job on heavier objectives. Cons: I would give the Beta AR 5 stars other than than the waist being to short. Not a big issue if you're not a climber. I had the jacket ride up and out from my AR-395 harness a couple times on an 8 pitch route with wind gusts around 50mph. Rapid loss of body heat every time this happened. Also if you are planning on using this shell to ski, I would recommend wearing bibs along with it.

I bought the Jacket 2 years ago and it's kept me dry in rainy Vancouver weather.

Had the jacket for 3 months, and so far I have mainly used for dog walks, out in Victoria BC we see a significant amount rainfall this jacket has held up superbly to all weather conditions, and has kept me bone-dry by the end of our walks (up to 2-3 hours at time), and have found the pit zips perfect for venting while we lightly jog. I plan on using this for the ski season, mainly coastal PNW mountains, the fit is perfect for layering to stay warm on and off the hill. A lot of comments have been focused on the drop-hood but I like the look and design of it personally.

The Beta AR was my first Arcteryx purchase seven years ago, and I couldn't find any issues with the build quality, durability, or performance of the jacket. It can be used as a shell in any (any) weather, from mist to driving sleet. I recently purchased an updated version and the new release on the hood drawstrings and zipper pulls are nice. If you want a shell jacket that will last you for a decade pull the trigger, you won't regret it.

The jacket is expensive but on the other hand i wear it everyday. Just make sure to use the right layering and you can wear it all 4 seasons. Great quality and flawless workmanship. I wish the hood could be tucked away. However the hood is not a dealbreaker. Great mobility

I'm not sure who decides the colour choices, but they sure don't get skiing. Wearing a slightly brighter jacket can be a positive safety issue these days. This jacket will blend in with the trees and isn't a particularly flattering colour.

The Beta AR is the best jacket I own for almost any activity. It'll stand up to any weather, including prolonged heavy rain. The hood has to be the best hood Arc'teryx make, as it's adjustable in so many ways, and always moves with my head. Pit zips allow venting if the temperature increases, and a hem drawcord is good for keeping the jacket close to your body. I genuinely can't find anything bad to say about this jacket.

Hands down the best jacket I own. Had to talk myself into spending the money, but well worth it. Have used this jacket almost year round in rain and snow all over Michigan and Colorado.

Bombproof and solid jacket! Great all-round hard shell. Good weight to durability ratio. Fits a bit large. I'm generally large or extra large in Arc'teryx and for this one at 6'2" about 220 I'm a large with space for light layering.

I love this jacket. My only problem is when I use this with a hooded mid-layer then the collar would be a problem. Should have bought the beta LT.

I've been really happy with my purchase. The jacket is perfect for the warm, wet outdoors and in winter with a fleece or other clothing underneath it will also excel even more. The performance is perfect and more importantly the build quality which is what broght me to the purchase. The only downside is that you need or want the same level of performance on the legs in the harsh environment. Given how long this will last and perform it's well worth the money. Built to last

I have a jacket collection....yes, closets of jackets. If I had to keep only one, this is the one. It is really the perfect blend of weight and features - what you need, not more. You can add a light vest or down shirt underneath for greater warmth, leave on its own for summer rains. This is the jacket that goes everywhere with me on travels around the world, looks new after 7 or 8 years of regular use. I highly recommend.

It's perfect hard shell for winter activities. But for "AR" purpose, it's a little too hard and make lots of noise use in other seasons. The sleeve is just too long compare with any other brand.

Obviously great quality, in material and fit. I didn't expect it to be so light, which is nice in summer and spring months. However it does suffer from the gore tex shuffle sound. Dont expect to be too stealthy in this.

I bought this jacket for my husband last year. He absolutely lives it. In addition to being a great fit and loving the color, he wears it 3 seasons of the year. He wears it on its own in spring and fall and on warmer winter days and in addition to an insulated layer on colder days. It has been his go to jacket for hiking, snowshoeing and our kids mountain and cyclocross bike races. I'm going to invest in one for myself and my two kids this fall!

I have had this jacket for 3 years now, yet it still looks brand new, despite being past 4500 metres twice, in hot 30 degree weather, in cold -20 degree weather and blustering winds. The vents are inspired. A way to wear this even when the weather is warm.

I'd like to start off by saying that the build quality of this jacket is absolutely fantastic. You can tell when a company goes the extra mile to polish off little areas that others probably wouldn't. It's one of those items that even though you've invested a large amount of money in you know you don't have to worry about damaging it when out facing the elements. Therefore you end up with stellar protection coupled with the confidence required to take on tricky situations. Perfect. When wearing this jacket my range of movement never feels hindered however it never feels like there is any excess material getting in the way either. It is incredibly easy to pack down and weighs next to nothing. The waterproofing is absolutely excellent and so is the breathability. The ability to vent in the underarm area and adjust the hood to accept a helmet (whilst still being extremely effective without a helmet) makes this quite a versatile outer layer. On top of this it looks smart and wouldn't look out of place worn to the pub after a long day in the mountains. 10/10
