Perfect blend of mountain running shoe and hiking boot. Best of both worlds with none of the downside.

I've been super excited for Arc'teryx to put out a competitive approach shoe and they nailed it with the Vertex. Out of the box, they feel super narrow in the midsole area, so much so that I didn't think I would be able to wear them. Fortunately, after just a couple hours in them, they broke in nicely. If you have wider feet, be patient with them as they'll feel way tight.
Once broken in though, the shoe feels great. Superior comfort, modern lacing system, and functional performance make this a top tier approach shoe. The rubber feels pretty sticky and the shoes hold a decent edge as well. This shoe feels way less clunky than other approach shoes on the market and is definitely geared more towards long days scrambling in the mountains and moving fast. They are light weight yet very supportive and feel like they will hold up for a long time. The vertex is a great addition to your kit if you are pursuing modern, fast and light climbing days in the mountains.

I've been waiting for a shoe like this for a while now. Perfect balance between an approach shoe with a trail runner. I have a wide toe box, so I was hesitant to purchase when I read they run on the narrower side. That being said find them roomie enough for running, but narrow enough for edging. Perfect for big days in the San Juans!

I got this shoe as an approach shoe, but have found myself using it pretty for pretty much everything. Really comfortable and it looks great to!

These shoes look and feel great. They have enough stiffness to make a great scrambling shoe - but enough flex to be comfortable as on the approach in. I also love that they are goretex - as this makes some of the snow covered approaches a little more manageable, and I don't have to worry about trying to climb with trench foot after a sloshy approach.
I sized down in these. I'm usually an 8.5, and while 8.5 would have been fine as a hiking shoe, I wanted a tighter fit for scrambling/climbing.
