I am disappointed with the changes from previous versions. Feels flimsier, cheaper, less durable and less supportive. I have LOVED Altras for 8 years but this shoe resulted in foot and achilles pain.

Good shoe but the durability is not that great. It wears out way too fast.

It feels too narrow but I think it's mostly because the laces are too short and I have to tighten them more than I'd like to get a secure tie on the shoe. Otherwise great.

I love these so much I bought a second pair. My one issue is that the black looks closer to dark navy blue and they “clash” with true black pants.

So I bought these shoes from a local shoe store as I was in desperate need of new shoes. I tried them onin a half size smaller, which did not fit, so I went up to 9.5 feeling as though they were the correct size. They were with the ultra thin socks the store let me use to try them on. However, after purchase, my own thin socks were not thin enough and so I had to go barefoot in order to wear the shoes. After a break in period, the shoes got better. I enjoy wearing them execpt for the part where the insoles have rubbed off onto my feet and the stink from the shoes themselves. I am certain that if I went up to a size 10 there would have been room to wear socks.

Nice wide toe box, but they feel a little tighter in the upper area. I tried to loosen the laces, but they are already way too short. Longer shoe laces, please! Also, these look navy more than black.

This was my first time in this shoe. Everything was perfect. They fit like a dream. Only reason I took off one star is the rubber sole is already starting to peel off at the toe and I've only worn them for a couple of weeks. I'm just hoping it doesn't peel any further any time soon.

I was skeptical at first, because I wear Lone Peaks for trails and I doubted I could find anything as comfortable with a wide toe box (I have bunions and shoe fitting is challenging). This checks all of the boxes, and I love how versatile they are. I've worn them walking 1-2 miles and also wore them around town and to the gym for lifting. They are still comfortable after wearing for hours. They are great for all of those things, with just the right about of support. The toe box is very roomy and the material is stretchy. The only negative is that the laces are so short. I like to double-tie my laces so they don't come undone and I can just barely do it with these. Even tying once can be challenging. It's doable though. The heel is also pretty soft, which I like. I would by these again but I hope in the next iteration they have slightly longer laces, like the Lone Peaks.

Good wide toe box. My 2nd, 3rd, 4th toes are all almost as long as my big toe so most shoes press on my 3rd/4th toes. I had to get the Men's 8.5 shoes to get them wide enough. (Women's 10 were still a little too snug at lateral toes.) So- the heel is a little looser than ideal, but adequately tightened with shoelaces.
Also, love the neon green/yellow color.

I was looking for a non-trail shoe that fits like the Lone Peaks that I hike in, and these are the closest I've found with a similar toe box. The Torins were too tight. I plan to wear these out walking/around town/and possibly for lifting. I like that they are versatile. Not the most cushion, due to the style, but I prefer that. With that being said, I probably would not actually wear these running as for running I prefer more cushion. For walking and everyday use, they work great. The shoelaces are short - I usually double tie my laces to keep them from coming undone and I can just barely do it with these.

I love Altra running shoes but there is such an issue with the short length of the shoelaces. I've had to change out the 45inch ones that come with the product for 50s (which are hard to find d) or 54s (which are too long). They are unusable no matter how I do the lacing!

The toe area felt wide while the sides felt more true to size. Great for weight lifting and I enjoy them. My foot is 7” but I wear a 7.5”.

This is my favorite shoe for walking and sports. It's light/comfortable with a great wide toe box/natural fit. Highly recommend. I can't find a better fit for pickleball shoes..Altra please make a court shoe. The tread wears too quickly for court sports.

I would have given these the highest rating possible if it weren't for the laces coming undone ALL THE TIME. I had to retie them 3-4 times during a 20-minute walk. Otherwise, I live the fit, the style, the comfort, but they need better laces.

I have an old pair of Escalante 3 shoes that I love. I bought the Escalante 4 shoes because I needed a pair of all-black shoes (these are the black-on-black version). I don't like these as much as my old ones. They are still good shoes, but the upper material is not as soft and they have a "harder" feel in the soles and fit a little tighter. I much prefer the older design.

I run half marathons and I wanted to try shoes with zero drop and a wider toe box - while still being meant for running. These shoes fit the bill!
The shoes themselves look nice and durable. The laces are incredibly short - which I knew after reading reviews but figured, I could switch the laces if needed.
The toe box is not as wide as I had hoped but it is definitely wider than any other running shoe I've had.
These shoes are taking me a while to break in and get used to. My feet usually hurt after a long run, but I know it's because my feet are so used to extra padded running shoes - so I need to build up that strength in my feet again.
I think I will end up liking these more after my feet adjust.
They fit true to size: I'm a true size 7 and that's what I purchased and they fit great!

When I first put these on, I was really excited. They felt great. I do have to put my own inserts in all shoes because there's never enough arch support. I love the heal because it has a nice smooth fabric that did not irritate my skin. I've recently tried three different styles of altras. They all have a firm ridge along the outside of foot to heel that pronates my foot. I never had this problem with my old ultras. But the main thing is the base of the shoelaces rubs right on my bunion and hurts my first toe, making it unwearable.

Go to shoe. Have bunion and achy soles with other shoes. Am disappointed with most recent purchase, footbed not as soft, and miss the padded tongue. Find myself going back to last years Escalante.

Love the wide toe box. The medial longitudinal arch support is not sufficient for me, so I have to add an insert. Would rate 5 stars with adequate arch support.

These were supposed to be a similar return to the 2.5 that you killed off. Close, but not really. While the toe box is still wide, the height/space/volume of the front of the shoe feels less that I can't tighten the laces much. You also dropped the ball using such short laces. Standard laced barely has enough length to tie a knot. Heel lock lace you definitely need to skip some holes and they're still not long enough, or buy longer laces. Lastly, not sure where the black photo cane from that is on the site. "Black" is actually dark grey. A fine color, but, I thought I was buying black.

Can't put 5 stars. I had to exchange for a smaller size because the 8 was too big for me. I had an older version of the same model so I bought the same size but I was too big this time. And what's the point about reducing the length of the laces??? I had to buy another pair because I can't tie it properly. So now they don't match with the shoes.

Shoes are comfortable. I use them for daily wear or walking. Be prepared though. The laces are short. I had to buy longer laces. I also sized down half a size from what I normally wear.

If I was being more particular I'd probably give these 2 or 3 instead of 4. I bought these for the wide toe box and mesh upper. I have a narrow foot and they fit well below the toe box to the heel - no slipping. They have 'cured' the sore spots on the outside of my big toes @ the toenail and stopped the pain at the end of my second toe which is longer than the big toe. They have enough of a high profile that my arch inserts have room. My main complaint is the embarrasing squeak when walking. I've been wearing them for two weeks and it continues. Does Altra have recommendations on how to stop this? The laces are too short and slippery - constantly having to relace them before I trip on them. This seems an easy enough fix for Altra. The tongue slips to the side and moves toward the front and makes a wrinkle that needs to be adjusted throughout the day whether I tie them tight or leave them comfortable. Others mention the color is off - that doesn't concern me since I wear them with black, gray, or navy pants - not a big deal. I'm wondering how long until my toenails break through the mesh - but I need the mesh for comfort. As an ex-runner, they don't seem to have enough cushion/ support, I wouldn't use them for short or long distance. Maybe they are OK as sprint trainers. At this point I will wait to see how long they take for the sole to start breaking down and the mesh to get holes - are they worth the price we pay?

My only concern is that there is little or no padding in the tongue which caused deep ridges on the top of my foot. Since this only came to light after wearing several hours I guess I’ll be keeping them. If that would be a deal breaker, I’d advise giving them a pass.
