don't know who these people are who've experienced such exceptional shoes that the Escalante 4s only deserve four out of five stars. For me, this is easily a 5/5 shoe. Three features make it a clear winner. First, the shape: it resembles the foot of someone who has never worn shoes in their life. The big toe is allowed to angle outward, away from the rest of the foot, helping prevent bunions and hammertoes from ever developing. Second, the cushioned insole is both comfortable and supportive. Third, the heel cup fits just right, keeping my heel from shifting around. Combined with a runner's loop, the fit is extremely secure and eliminates all heel movement. The only improvement I'd suggest is offering a wide version. I wear a C width in conventional shoes, and the sole feels a bit narrow through the midfootprobably ideal for someone with a B-width foot. I'd pick up several pairs of these in wide width in a heartbeat! All in all, this is a wonderful shoe that has resolved almost all of my foot problems!

My first Altra had too much cushioning. This pair is perfect! Very stable and my feet and legs do not get tired. Highly recommend!!!

Using this shoe to train for Portuguese Camino to Santiago. Recommend to me by many people. Currently training 4 or more miles daily (I'm over70). My feet never felt better.

I know Altras are designed to be running shoes, but I am in my 80's and find the stability they give me helps me not to fall. Altras are all I wear anymore and I haven't fallen since I began wearing them. Thank you!

Great walking and running shoes! Like walking on a cloud!

On my 2nd pair of the 4's. Trained for a marathon in these shoes and near the end of my training cycle I started to get blisters after only 300-ish miles on the shoes. I loved them so much I got a new pair for the marathon I was training for and hoped for the best. Was able to run about 8 miles before my race in my new 4's and had a backup pair of lone peaks on hand for the race just in case. Ended up crushing my marathon without a single blister or lost toenail!! I love these shoes so much, they really work for me. More colors, please!

These shoes are super light and comfy. Make me feel super-fast, which I am not, but perception is everything ;). I will buy these over and over.

The Escalante is the best running shoe that I've used over the years, and I will be sticking with these. My feet are significantly stronger since using these regularly, and I appreciate how I can feel my foot responding to the ground strike and isn't thrown off by all the extra cushion. My ankle stability has also improved, as has my gait. My only wish, beg, plead is that more colors become available. Sometimes the men's selection is better than the women's selection! Solid shoe, just sub-par style.

These are fantastic shoes! They look small and tidy on my feet. Advertised as lower-cushioned, I find them to be moderately cushioned. This seems magical, because just looking at them they are very low-profile. However, they are just as cushy as my stacked Ho**s that add an extra inch or two to my height but look chunky. I wear Escalante for running errands. I love them.

I have a wide food so they work the best for me.

I've had this shoe for a year and a half. It's a great fit, but I can't wear socks with them. I want a new pair before too long and don't know if I should go up a half size. What is your opinion? Thank you!

These shoes are perfect for my5K practice runs

I have run in these for years, then ran in Superior 5, which I loved, then tried the very comfy Experience Flow but my zero drop knees did not like the 4 mm, so back I am to the original escalante. I did want more cushioning but don't want a stacked shoe, and the new Superior pinched my foot. I bought 2 pair because apparently design and functionality for my foot changes.

Longer shoe laces would be great! Love the feel and color. Thie escalate rocks!

I like these Altras a lot. They're medium firm, with less cushioning than many Altras and as a result are less bulky than a lot of them. You're walking closer to the ground, so you're not making constant micro adjustments to maintain stability. They're not hard but if you're looking for super cushy they may not be for you. They run a bit narrower than some Altras but maintain the commodious toebox for which they're known

I bought these shoes for multi-use and ended up using them strictly for the gym. While there is still some padding, these shoes have been so solid for weight lifting.

I was nervous to run after constant issues with one of my feet.... these shoes have been incredible - I am back running and for the first time in years, my foot is not flaring up - at all! I love them!

I bought a couple of pairs of the 2.0 years ago and loved them. This most recent style is finally back to that original fit and it is amazing again.

I walk 5km a day and these do the trick. nice wide toe box. I have owned one pair of altras in the past and they were a mens version. Found them a bit better for my wide feet. The escalante 4 could be a bit wider for my foot but overall am happy with the feel. I bought all black so I could, if needed, use them as a neutral all around shoe.

Love this product. I researched barefoot shoes with more coushin. I love the wide toe space, yet I get a little extra cushion for my dog walks on pavement. So very great full to your company for making these. I will definitely buy again! Only suggestion I could make is change up the shoe laces. They don't hold very securely.
