Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)

Once again, this shoe is advertised as men’s but when it arrives, it is the women’s size. I returned one for my son for that reason. I indicated same. I ordered and it is the same issue so I have to return and re-order which means I won’t get it in time for a planned hike.

I like Altra since they came out with the Lone Peak 1 (Best shoe they ever made). That being said, I ordered these boots for my job. Website said they were black and pics looked all black. They are not entirely black. Leather is a dark grey, which is kind of a bummer since I need all black work boots. They are comfortable around the toe box and roomy. The tongue and ankle wrap is too padded and either I have a fat cankle or there isn't enough material to wrap around my ankle. The shoe laces are too small and always do not have enough traction to keep a knot firm. This seems to be an ever increasing problem when owning newer Altra shoes of any kind. They need laces like Hoka or Brooks.
Overall the boot is comfortable. The color isn't what I wanted or suggested on the website, the laces suck, and the ankle area doesn't have enough material for a proper wrap around feel.
Would I buy these again? I don't know. I love Altra shoes. But their quality above issues kinda suck.

My first boot version of the Olympus 6 for duty wear. It feels great and fits pretty true. However, I ordered black and it does not look black at all. Only the soles are. It's like a blueish, greenish faded suede look. I'll find a way to make it truly black. I've attached photo. I wish the color can be fixed.

As a daily wearer of the Torin 5 Luxe and Escalante Race, this comes closest of Altra's three waterproof boots to accommodating the width of my foot just behind my little toe. There's just a little pressure there, which I might forgive. But the boot tends to cant my foot inward, forcing my knees together, or my ankles to flex in an unnatural way, or for me to support most of my weight on the outside edges of my feet. I would choose the Topo Trailventure 2 WP over this one, both for fitting my foot and not interfering with my weight distribution.

Although I love my Alta sneakers, these are a good boot but a bit too stiff at the moment. I'm hoping they will break in with more use.

I bought this shoe because of the wide toe box. I have purchased several models of Altra hiking shoes in the past. This new shoe fit my foot fine, but the placement of the tie hooks causes ankle pain. There is no extra material on the boot where the tongue and boot sides meet. I had to use moleskin layers on the inside of the boot to minimize the pressure pain on my ankle from the hooks. I feel the company has cut corners on the manufacturing of this shoe model. While I have found a temporary solution to the ankle pain and am hoping the shoes will stretch out and be less painful over time, I will not be buying another pair of Altras unless they invest more in the quality of their product.

The fit of the boot on my foot is very good but the material that connects the tongue to the shoe is very painful to my ankle no matter how I lace them. I've had to start tying them below the ankle which is less than ideal.

The shoe is wildly out of specs, even from Altra's current low-cut Olympus. How do I *know*? My custom orthotics fit perfectly in the latter, but have 1/2 - 3/4" slop in mid. Poor quality control!

Hike the Rocky Mountains - 6 - 15 miles at elevation (7-12k ft) with varied terrain. Have a pair of Olympus 6 low tops which are great but, need better ankle support for certain hikes. Bought this boot - both pairs are size 11.5. Have over 300 miles on the low tops with little issue. Have around 50 miles on the high tops and had to stop wearing them. The toe box on the right foot is too small, not like the low tops. It squeezes my big toe in towards the other toes causing pain in the ball of my foot at about 4 miles, it gets worse through the hike and doesn't go away for a several days. I replicate the hike with other boots or the low tops and there's no issues. Not sure I could recommend this boot - maybe with caveats.

These shoes are waterproof and that's about the only thing that lasted. The sole felt deflated after about 50 miles and the bottom of the sole is missing rubber for a large portion winch made sticks and cactus come all the way through to my foot. As well the foam that is in place of where the rubber should be is totally trashed very quickly. The design doesn't make sense because you don't have traction for a good 20% on the bottom of your shoe. I owned the Olympus road version and was hoping this would be the same just off-road version and the sole was not even close to as supportive. Overall I got maybe 100 miles before these became my beater shoes. Very disappointed but am gonna try the lone peaks in hopes they are better. As well if I went on more than a 5 mile hike I got severe foot fatigue feeling every rock I stepped on and my feet hurt terribly after 5+ miles so realistically this is not a good hiking shoe. I understand lightweight means less durability but I was hoping to get a couple hundred miles at least out of these shoes.

It is a great, comfortable boot -- the only altra boot wide enough for me in the midsole -- except after a few weeks they now squeak with every step!
Please offer other boots in wide, and fix the squeaking! This seems to be a problem others share.

The design looks and sounds awesomeand then you wear them. As stated in another review, they're extremely painful across the ankle, from bone to bone. For me personally, they are also causing pain in the heelthe extra soft cupping is a bit too accommodating (for lack of a better way to put it). And the kicker: the already far too thin outsole doesn't even cover the entire bottom of the sole of the shoe. It is just raw foam from about mid-point of the heel to the ball of the foot; it's just foam between the entire arch of the foot and the ground. Which I discovered when stepping on a fallen Mesquite branch in the AZ desert and having the thorns push right through the sole of the shoe. No, thanks. Especially not at this price point.

Left shoe began to squeak a few weeks into wear. Have cleaned and inspected. Both shoes now squeaking after just over one month use. Very disappointing.

Just avoid the entire line. While the shoe fits well when stationary, movement creates issues. The shoe is uncomfortable around the ankle and squeaks louder than cicadas at the height of summer. There is a disconnect between the construction and design folks, and it apparently there is more focus on expanding the line instead of fixing the problems. I might try one last iteration, but I miss the threes and maybe even the fours.

Too much support on outside of sole, too little on inside - makes it pronate badly - wished they would return to the quality of the Olympus 3's and 4's - designers can't possibly have tried these on

I was super excited to get the new Olympis 6 Trail as I have feet issues that cause a lot of pain when backpacking, which zero drop shoes remedy. I also was hoping that the peeling sole issues from the previous model was fixed as I hike in the SW mtns.
So, after a few hikes trying to break in the leather on these I can report that the way the upper boot creases at the forefoot bend (just above big joint) is painful!!! I am not sure if it is the leather or the new Goretex liner (which feels dangerously thin BTW) but it is not good! Perhaps this will break in further, but as I leave for a trip to the Southern San Juans, I am concerned... Did the folks at Altra actual walk around in these for more than a minute??? As is, I doubt that anyone would find these to be comfortable. This is a shame as the boot has a unique stiffness in the midsole for the amount of cushion which in theory makes it uniquely suitable for backpacking (You can still feel a bunch of pointy rocks undergoot BTW).
Also, come on Altra could you give us a third color? These colors aren't as good as the previous model.

After 3 months the sole tore between the toe sections on the shoe, making the shoe no longer "waterproof" and makes an INSANELY annoying squeaking sound every single step I take on any terrain. The upper ankle of the shoe is cheap foam and felt glued to the top of the low Olympus base model, with riveted hooks for lacing the upper section, the rivets do not go all the way through the foam and felt, so those tore away from shoe within days of having them.

This is my fifth pair of Altras and the second pair of this boot. Every pair starts squeaking after a couple of months. I thought that the addition of the vibram bottom might fix the issue but no. The fit is great and they are super comfortable, but Altra needs to do something about this. I email customer service and got no reply. Very disappointing.

So I tried both a size 12 and 11.5 in womens, 12 was too long and barely wide enough. 11.5 was too narrow all together--meaning this company wants to go bankrupt!! Size 10 mens was my last attempt. Even the shoe laces are too short to tie these fully!! They are too narrow even in the Mens boot! There are NO men that can fit into these shoes unless Asian or something! This company was a godsend for wide toe box requiring people. I thought I finally found the correct shoe. Well, they are now being made like any and all shoes. If this company actually wants to remain profitable, they need to go back to what made them great. Profits will not come from NO ONE buying your NOW AWFUL shoes LOL Whoever is making these decisions is a complete m0r0n!! Good luck surviving as a company really!! Never gonna happen! The genious who carved out this nieche wide toe box shoe brand needs to come back onboard with a big paycheque. It really takes a low IQ to bankrupt a thriving wonderful product by changing it to a painful narrow shtty shoe and boot! Pathetic!

I use this for hiking and general walking. While I find this shoe very comfortable and so glad there is a zero drop hike shoe, the inner-heel came apart at the seams after just 2 months. I don't typically go hard on my equipment, and no hiking boots I ever owned had this issue. I would buy a future/improved version on this shoe, but need to give a 1-star for the price tag and its very poor quality construction. Please make improvements on this design!

I was using this product to do farm work. Altra shoes have saved me owing to severe neuropathy in my feet.. For several years I have eyed the Gore-Tex Olympus as the boot that would be the best. When I finally had a little extra cash, I purchased them. From the outset there were issues. One of the metal rings on a lace eyelet was rubbing on both boots, but I could fix that by threading a little bit of cushioning onto the lace and snugging it under the eyelet. But I noticed the cushioning in the boot footbed diminished significantly after only three or four months p. And by the end of four months, my feet were hurting markedly. I bought them from a retailer where I could return them and ended up getting the newest model LonePeak. The feet are beginning to recover again. But I cannot recommend this boot at all. What a shame.

I would love to be able to write a review for any of the Altra hiking boots but they never have any size 14 which is what I need. Haven't had any boots in size 14 for 4 months. Bad business model.

These boots are amazing but they become annoyingly squeaky after a few weeks. I don't understand why there wasn't any quality control testing. These could've been the best hiking boots ever but failed.
