In my 60s, I had to cut back on distance running, and just go for 5-10 mile walks and hikes daily. I was having joint aches and felt at a loss for doing such activities, until I almost accidentally discovered Altra Shoes. Man, the difference was immediate and epic. They are not cheap, nor are they trendy but well made, well designed, and at least for myself, the best shoes ever. Lots of my chums wear NB , Hoka, Nike...all dandy stuff, sometimes on sale, etc....good for them. Altras are not so popular, but the folks I see wearing them are Nurses and Appalachian Trail hikers.

Great shoe, please don't change a thing. I like the softness of the heel, wide toe box, and barefoot feel.

Escalante 4 - I love the wide toe box, which is a nice change from my Hoka's. I even like them in gym for training.

These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn and have removed so much chronic pain. Please please please don't change the footbed, heel/toe drop, or toe box when the Escalante 5 comes out.

The shoes are great. I needed a smaller size. Downsized from 10 to 9 and that was perfect. Local stores kept fitting me with shoes that were obviously way too big. There was was an extreme amount of extra space in the front of the size 10 shoes

I run/walk about 5 miles a day. These shoes are very comfortable and I have gone through for sure 8 pairs. That being said, and I have commented on this before, the outsoles could definitely be tougher. At about 150 miles, they are worn flat. I have noticed other reviews with the same comment so I wonder why no change has been made. I have to think that there are tougher compounds that can be used for the outsole. I also think that the colors could be better, too much white and black and not enough color.

The Escalante 4 has a generous toe box and moderate cushioning and support. For me it is a compromise between barefoot and excess support; the sneaker allows me to feel the contours of the ground while absorbing shock. After just a week of brisk walking and jogging five miles per day, I have significant relief from the pain of plantar fasciitis both while exercising and after a period of rest. I do not claim this is a cure or will have the same impact on others with this ailment, but in my particular case, it is quite a welcome change. Love these sneakers!

I love these sneakers. Best shoes I've had in years. I have fussy feet and need wide shoes with a big toe box and nothing has fit me better. Plus they are light and zero drop. I have a white pair and now buying a second in a different color.

These are equally amazing and potentially a bit better. I appreciate the lower stack height. Definitely reccomend if you know what you're getting with an Altra shoe (and if you don't, go find out!).

I have olives as my dailies that wearing. I ordered a pair of the white expecting the exact same, but they feel smaller and don't have the 'height' as my olives. Much WHITER than expected.Still enjoy.

I have wide feet and this is a great shoe for that. I can be a little tight on the top of my feet, but I think that depends on the socks and they're still quite new so I think that will work itself out.

Love these shoes, but worth noting that I am not a runner and use them for walking and knocking around. First off I noticed that the tongue is not super padded, which is really nice because it's easier on off and I don't notice the lack of padding. The laces are flat, that probably helps. The zero drop is a must have for me, and the huge win with these shoes is the wide toebox. They fit my foot really well and are super comfortable without needing the ultra thick soles that are popular on competitive brands. The shoes are lightweight, super comfortable, very supportive of my foot and since I live in hot weather, they are cool and ventilated.

I put in 370 miles of running in my first pair, and I just got a second pair. They are very comfortable and supportive. I'm also able to get kinetic feedback from the ground, which I like. I had the Torin 6 prior, and those were more cushy. This shoe feels like wearing a sock, so if you don't want a sock like fit around the foot, then this shoe is not for you. Also, I recommend triple knotting the shoes because they would come undone when I only double knotted it.

After two foot surgeries I was struggling with finding a proper Gym/Squat shoe so I gave these a shot because they are wide box, zero drop, and tight to the ground. They're the perfect option for me

Great shoe, just watch the stitching. My pair had some stitching come loose and I had to use the warranty.

Zero drop Low cushion is the best choice in my opinion. These shoes feel the same underfoot as my Lone Peaks. The low cushioning that Altra puts out feels like it mimics natural running which I prefer.

These shoes are so comfortable I have told several of my friends about them. Two of my friends have already ordered a pair! I have to say that I will definitely purchase again. The wide toe box is the seller for me! I'm no spring chicken and I needed that wide part of the shoe!

This is my first pair of road shoes from Altra (have had Altra trail shoes for years) and they seem to hit the sweet spot for what I prefer in a road shoe. Not too much cushion and stack height, but still comfortable for mid distance runs.

Bought these shoes for a minimally cushioned, zero heel to toe, wide toe box, running shoe and that's exactly what I got. Ran the houston half in these and still using them. Lightweight too!.

I absolutely LOVE these shoes! I have looked at scores of different brands of shoes and never found a pair that didn't make my feet hurt until now! My podiatrist recommended these shoes. I had never heard of them. I was reluctant to spend so much money on them but decided I was desperate. My toes were beginning to wrap around each other and I was relegated to sandals so my toes would be free. I was shocked at how good my feet felt in these shoes; so shocked I bought another pair. Please do your feet a favor and try these shoes. They have made all the difference to me. If you had more colors I would buy another pair. How about a navy blue with an accent color in men's 14?

I couldn't wear the Escalante 3 (it gave me ankle pain) but this works great for me. I also like how the footbed feels more flat so my toes aren't pushed into each other. Great level of cushioning without being too much. They also feel more flexible than the Racer 2s. I hope they continue to make the Escalante in this style.

I started wearing altra shoes 8 years ago. Since then my feet have adapted to the extra width and there is no going back. These Escalante's fit perfectly and feel great when walking and running. I'm not a big fan of a lot of cushion so these are perfect for me.

I really like the way these shoes fit. They perform great in the gym and on the track. Also look and feel pretty nice out and about. I’m definitely going to get another color. Definitely 10 out of 10
