The fit was a little big. Just annoying enough for my 5'5" build. So had to return. Great product, just need better sizing

Arcteryx has completely abandoned its quality control measures. I have over 10 pcs (atom, proton, beta lt, beta ar, atom vest, cerium jacket, fleece sweaters, etc.. and ALL of them are in size M (I'm 5'11, 170lbs). My sister (who lives in the US) bought this for me since she knows I wear size M and sent it over as a present so I can't even return it. This thing fits horrendously, it's like wearing a big garbage bag, the sleeves are unrealistically long and wide, the torso is huge (like a plus-sized jacket) while the neck, hoodie and back length are the same. the old proton used to have a more sleek fit which was easy to layer under the shells but i can't imagine layering this one under any shell comfortably. The old proton fitted like a proper, fitted mid layer but this fits like an oversized parka. I've been reading a lot of reviews about Arcteryx messing up their fits on most jackets and witnessed it firsthand today, will be avoiding their new collections and "revised" fits from now on. it's sad to see such a good brand that I love go down the drain.

I used to hike in an Atom until I discovered how much more breathable the Proton jacket is. I often struggle getting too hot, even in cooler conditions as I'm a very sweaty person. I hike in this for most winter hikes and don't find myself overheating. It's also incredibly packable and I love the colour too. I have one in navy blue and bright yellow too.

I received this as a gift from a client of mine, and I am very happy with how it's lasted me for the past 2 years. It's survived New England (Massachusetts) weather pretty well, and does great in the snow and rain. I took away one star because I would have liked to have pockets on the inside of the jacket, but the fit is great (5'10", 180lbs, L). It's light and keeps me warm. Minus one star since the DWR has basically worn off, and isn't what it used to be, so it looks soggy when wet. Pairs well with an Arc'teryx gaiter! Especially with the matching color and logo.

Beauty piece for cold-weather ski touring, super versatile in all seasons and extremely well made, but sizing has changed considerably. Regarding the size large athletic lean build, wider chest and shoulders, 165 lbs. and about 6' when wearing ski/hiking boots the newer revised fit is baggier, longer in length and much roomier than the 21' Proton. Hood is good when cinched, not too voluminous considering it's helmet compatible. Longer sleeves are appreciated for glove use and protection from the elements. Usually go with the large to wear some layers beneath and to accommodate "bunching" of the garment or a general shortening of the sleeve length when wearing a backpack/hip belt/shoulder straps. But the revised large is honestly borderline belay jacket in size, like my 19' Nuclei, which I throw on during ski descents or standstills without even undoing the zipper. Will make this revised-fit Proton work, but for final sale/non-returnable purchases please be advised. Should have gone with the medium. Also, to dial in the fit when you're unable to try on the garment, or before making any purchase for that matter, would recommend contacting Arcteryx and acquiring measurements/dimensions for an older, time-tested Arcteryx piece, which you're satisfied with in terms of fit, then doing the same for the garment you're interested in buying, and comparing those numbers to gauge potential fit. Works every time. Also, be wise and read the official Arcteryx-homepage product reviews before purchasing.

For those who are new to breathable insulation, this will feel like a Godsend. For those who are spoiled by the old Proton LT/FL, this will be a mixed bag.
I've used the proton since 2015 (LT with 40D Fortius fabric) and every year it has gotten better until this year. It's not all bad, the looser fit put me solidly in size medium, I was in between size before. The longer fit is better for skiing in the spring since it helps keep the snow out. That's about where it ended.
I've only had this latest revision for 2-3 months and I am avoiding it in favor of my old proton. The long hem at the back goes almost past my buttock which is even further than some of my waterproof shell. Combine that with how it wet out much easier now that I will occasionally hang this jacket to dry in the sun. The front hem is also longer and notice it bunchs up way more than the old version when I kneel.
I was kind of disappointed to see that during the spring of 2025, they didn't have a new revision to correct some of these issues, so I thought I would write a review.

Bought this for use as a mid-layer at the end of Jan this year. Loving the fit and breathability of the jacket. Keeps me warm under a GoreTex shell even in -20C, but doesn't get too hot when things warm up. I'm quite disappointed however, that I've had this for one month and the jacket is already showing signs of wear and the material is pilling under the armpits. I'm using it for resort skiing and as a light jacket around town, and not using a backpack. Kind of blown away that a jacket at this price point is showing this kind of wear with a month of light use.

Not sure what happened to the fit... old model fit very snug and now it's just a straight cut pretty much. Plus is that the logo is back to being embroidered but this new model feels very cheap, especially the sleeve fabric as well as the softer chest pocket.

DRASTIC difference in sizing between the large and XL. Bought the XL since I have increased in size and thought it was just a little too big around the mid section and length was long in the back so ordered a large, and it was way to tight compared to the XL. causes the chest to flair out. Its just all weird. There really isn't any size in between. Sizing before this revision were solid, but Ill just end up keeping the XL and wear a hoodie underneath or something. Prob wouldnt recommend the purchase to peers due to the huge sizing difference.

Bring back the fitted fit that is actually fitted. I thought I was fit but apparently fit is 100 lbs heavier and beer gutted. Would love to keep this nice jacket but it has way too much room. My old proton fit great.

I'm 6'3 210 lbs and the XL is to big for me, the new skirt hits the middle of my hamstring, the slim fit looks more like a loose/baggy fit. I was hoping to wear this jacket while touring, but the dimensions don't give me confidence for my days in the mountains. I tried on the L in store and it was extremely tight, so I figure it out the XL will fit me right like all my arcteryx jacket that I own (thorium, sabre, beta ar, atom sl, squamish). I don't understand, there seems to be a size missing between the L and XL. I wish I kept my old Proton, it seemed more robust and suitable for mountain outings. Cannot return it, I give it a chance out there, but didn't pass the test.

There is nothing revised about this Proton at all. It's the same 2019 product just more expensive. Second, I live in Florida and only use this Jacket during the winter when traveling north for work. I've maybe worn it a total of 8 times in 10 months. The logos which are smaller are already falling off or are totally faded. This is not the case with my 2019 jacket. Don't buy.

Selected for winter running in Canada. Overall very unimpressed. It's loose fitting, poorly insulated with zips not covered as expected on a winter jacket of this kind. Warmth is limited but with many layers underneath it's acceptable. Everything feels cheap and poor quality. I would not buy this brand again.

Did the sizing change ? Seems to be really long in the Torso, compared to all my other Arcteryx coats. Bummer, Arcteryx was my consistant go to for fit, but lately i've had to return all the newer models that i've ordered.

I have the lightweight version of this jacket and it's absolutely terrible. Whenever I wear it the bottom half of the jacket always rotates to the right. Even during a walk around the neighborhood the bottom of the jackets twist. I'm very disappointed with this jacket and would not recommend it.
