I agree with the reviewer who said this boot looked like something out of Walmart. The leather looked like vinyl, felt like vinyl and behaved like vinyl. They felt clunky when I tried them on because there was no give in the leather. These Chinese made boots are at a low price point, but they are not the same English made boots we wore in the '90s. I am one who would rather pay a higher price for quality than a lower price for a substandard product.

There is terrible material on the back of the heel, it breaks apart, balls up, and rolls up creating a hot spot on the heel and wore out in two weeks. I will be looking into the warranty.

If you want the old Dr. Martens you used to know and love, you need to buy the Vintage style ones only offered through Dr. Martens. These boots offered at Zappos are made in China, not England. That is why they suck.

Dr. Martens used to be made in England. Those where the finest shoes with the best material. I still have a pair purchased in the late 90's. They are well worn but still in great shape. The new Dr. Martens are made in China. The material used is awful. They do not wear well, and the fit is nothing like the old. I am said to say I will no longer be buying this brand. I would have paid twice the price for the old quality and craftsmanship.

My old Doc Martens are on their last leg, I have owned them about 6 years now and ride my motorcycle with them a lot. I just ordered a new pair and holy moley, they have changed! AND not for the better. I read a review about how cheaply made they are now, but ignored it as you will always have somebody not happy with a product, but he was spot-on. They feel very cheap and the leather is paper-thin. Not sure what happened here, but PLEASE go back to the old way you guys used to make this boot, because back then it was a rock-solid boot which I had no problem paying a higher price. But these are very cheaply made compared to my old ones! Do not buy this boot until they change their leather! Very disappointed.....

Had a pair of Docs for about 5 years, every day to work wore them hunting, out to dinner. Great boots, still in decent shape but liners starting to fall apart and time for some new ones for work, since work is business casual. I ordered these and what junk, no support the uppers were flimsy and totally not worth this boot price tag. Needless to say wore them to one side of the house and back, put back into box and sent back for a refund. So I said, okay maybe it's just the particular style. Went to the store and they were all junk for the most part. Don't waste your money on Docs, I got some Irish Setters for the same price and are twice the quality.

I used to love DM's (over 15 years of loyalty), but this last pair has been such a disappointment. After trying to break them in for two months, they still cut in on my heel, and the finish is already coming off of the shoe. Sadly, I cannot return them, and the manufacturer will not take responsibility for their poor quality merchandise. Let my waste of money serve as a warning to others, if it isn't a good fit after an hour of wearing them in house, return them. I will not be buying DMs again, unless they change back to the way they used to make them!

Hands off the made in China boots. I am on my second China pair, symptoms are the same: Leather is of poor quality, soles crack, stitching around the bottom of the shoe fails on the sides. Inside the sole wear out quicker. The only thing that remains are tho looks. If you want a durable boot, look elsewhere!

Do not buy these until they change back to their old ways. I will never buy Dr. Martins again. Been wearing this brand for 20 years and they have sunk to a new low. These are cheap junk leather boots, they could have gotten a better boot at Wal-Mart for a cheaper price. They look and feel like plastic. These are cheap, do not buy, like I said I have been wearing Docs forever and they are nothing like they used to be. I am very disappointed, go to Wal-Mart if you want cheap leather boots! These are not what they used to be.

Very disappointed in the latest pair of Dr Marten 1460's. I have owned several pair of these boots all were excellent with the exception of the last pair I purchased. The sole began to separate on the left boot after owning them for 3 months. I appreciate Zappos generous return policy. These used to be a quality work boot that I would were for years. I am wondering if Dr Marten's quality control is going down. Have they changed the manufacturing process or location? If Dr Martens is going to produce crap like this then they need to cut the price by more than half. When the boots are back in stock I will reorder. If I get another bad pair, I will be leaving the brand.

I love the color! They come with 2 pairs of laces. One pair is black & the other is yellow. The comfort is an issue. I'm short (4'11") and the height of the boot is probably not ideal for me. They push into my calf and it is very painful. I assume this would get better after they are broken in. Also, they are very snug around the area of the foot just behind the bridge, but again I think this issue would be resolved after they are broken in because of the stretching of the leather. The width of the bridge is nice if you have wider feet. I have noticed the sizing seems to run very large. I normally can wear a girl's size 3 up to a woman's size 5. I purchased the size 5 (obviously). Overall, I think they are made to wear well, but I personally was very disappointed in the fit.

Total thumbs down. The boots would be perfect if they were not designed for Fred Flintstone. I have wide feet, I was swimming in these. I tried a size smaller than I usually wear; the length was okay but the laces were all the way tightened and they still had wiggle room. I think the shoes would have fit me, but this was a boot shopping trip.

I have been an ardent DM consumer for well over a decade. The last good pair I bought was in 2005. The subsequent 3 pair I bought ALL had construction problems with the sole glue that made the shoe start to separate and make horrible squeaking noises when walking. I have to put on my 3 year old pair to have any sort of quietness when I walk. They still look as good as they used to and seem to wear ok, but the noise/squeak is unacceptable.

What happened to my old friend? -
I bought a pair of 14 eyelet Docs back in 1987, when I was young and thought I was cool. I wore them for 20 years off and on. I walked out of Ground Zero on 9/11 and for 9 hours more until I got home. I had to throw them out, with a tear in my eye, because the strain had finally destroyed them. I bought a new pair, hoping to have my foot friend back, only to find that Dr. Martens were no longer made in the UK, rather they had been made in Thailand. These boots LOOK like Docs, but they are made like a $10 Rolex. Where my old Docs still had treading on the sole after 20 years, I can dent the sole of these boots with my finger. What happened to the boots that took me through HS and out of Ground Zero?

Disappointment -
They look cool but they just don't seem to fit my feet! They are really uncomfortable. They feel too narrow in the toe and instep and too big in the heel. I can't even stick it out long enough to see if they break in.

Royal takeover -
I have nothing but good feelings about Zappo.com. The problem I have is with the brand of shoe I bought. I have owned Dr. Martens for over 25 years. Enjoying and being comfortable, with my work it is important and I wear nothing else. However, when I received my last pair, just weeks ago, I was very disappointed. First, they were made in China, second they are not the quality of leather as my other boots, and finally they are so uncomfortable that I haven't been able to work in them. I have a lump on my leg wear they bruised me and the lump has not gone away in 3 weeks. I love Zappo.com, but won't be buying Dr. Martens unless they go back to quality materials and tradition.

The made in China fit is not the same as made in England -
Doc Marten's have been my work shoe for 10 years at a restaurant...have enjoyed owning at least 5 pairs. But this one made in China is uncomfortable from the start and is abrasive at the back of the heel. Definitely won't cut it when your on your feet 7 hours. I'm in the process of returning this pair. I just have to search for another great work shoe.

I've just bought my 5th pair of Dr. Martens boots (1460)and did not manage to break them in. I was feeling something really strange with them, really uncomfortable.
Something really changed... Is it because it's made in China, now? (by the way, the price we pay hasn't decreased).

You're better off with a cheap pair of boots -
...I just bought this boot recently and to my dismay I realized that it no longer says "Made in England" on the sole of the boot. It seems that Dr. Marten has moved all production to China. I have also found that because of this change, many people seem to be put off by the quality of the boot...

I've been a die hard Docs owner for over a decade and these boots are definitely not the same ones my feet have known and loved. The first pair ordered were almost a full size too small, and the quality is generally terrible - they are no longer made in England at all, but are instead made in China! The feel, the quality, and the fit are all different. Zappos was great: exchanged the smaller pair for the right size, paid for return shipping and overnighted the new ones. These are definitely the last pair of Docs I'll be spending money on, but I'd definitely buy from Zappos again.

I have been wearing this style of boot since the early 80's (oh yes, still a diehard Punk at heart). This is my 4 pair, the first two wore beautifully. Broke in easy, lasted a long time and were very comfy! However, this last pair I bought in 2003 was a waste of money and time. I have had the hardest time breaking them in. They are uncomfortable, my feet hurt in them and the laces break too easily now.
I don't know what Doc's did. I guess they sold out to the Fashion Trends but they are NOT what they used to be. So I switched to Caterpillars. Much more bang for the buck, more comfy, don't need to break them in and my feet don't hurt!
