Comfortable? Yes. Durable? Negative. I'm on my feet for fifty to sixty hours a week in food service, and I beat on shoes. Asides from general wear and tear, everything from bleach to boiling soup gets splashed on them. Being the cheapskate that I am, I've been spending thirty bucks at Walmart or Payless every three or four months for shoes that wear out quickly, and hurt your feet along the way. I was getting tired of this after a few years, and decided to spend some cash on a "good" pair of shoes. I had a pair of 1460s way back when, and they took everything I could give them for five or six years. Good boots. Haven't even thought about Dr. Martens in ages, when I came across them on here and figured, "What the hell, seems like a good investment." I spent more on boots that came with the cheapest, barely-there insoles imaginable. That being said, once I bought some gel inserts and broke them in, they wore like a dream. I mean they were borderline superb. The slip resistance is above average, too. After having them about four months, the leather (which is a lot thinner and flimsier than I recollect) began to wear in the way that only the cheapest leather does, and finally it began to crack. This after having mink oiled them several times, cleaning them as often as possible, and conditioning them once a week. These things look like a marine's boots who just got back from two years of combat. Awful. I still wear them, and they're still like walking on air, but now the leather has this odd pattern of creases and ridges, and there are several small tears in it. They look bad. I mean, you spend that kind of money on footwear, you'd expect them to look halfway presentable, or, at the very least, not have the leather tear. Didn't mean to write a novel here, but this makes me upset. Maybe I'll give Wolverine or Timberland a shot next.

There are two types of boot wearers, those that can wear the Docs and those that can't. These are beautiful boots and I wanted them to work but they did not. The fit seemed flaccid. The leather just too soft. I was afraid I was crease them so much just walking on the carpet to test the boots that I would not be able to return them. Overall, not nearly enough support at the ankles. Toe box too big. Heel area seemed ready to expand. Other reviewers just rave about these boots. So, I think it gets down to this -- if you like a stiffer, more supportive boot these will not do. If you prefer a soft, glove like feel you will love these boots.

This boot was way too wide for my usually-medium width foot. I would hae had to wear two pairs of heavy socks to make them work.

These boots are cheap imitations of the English ones that lasted me from 1993 to 2001. The leather is flimsy and thin. I can't imagine these boots lasting a year with regular wear. The money is too much for these cheap, junky boots. I'd imagine the for life docs are the quality of the older ones, but they are twice the price. If you owned a pair of docs back in the day, these are no where near the quality you remember. They run a little big for me. A US 11 fits me perfectly. The UK 10 feels about 1/2 size too large. All that said, the footbed is mighty comfortable. Save your money for a pair of real doc martens. The standard issue ones are garbage.

The 1460 is a sweet boot, but feels a little small. I also cannot break this boot in. I'm about ready to run them over with a car a few times to break in. Otherwise I cannot count on wearing this boot for more than a few hours and when I know I don't have far to walk.

I bought these boots as riding boots for a girl scout camp, even though I'm only 12 years old. I used them well this summer, then had another camping trip about a month ago. After hiking for two days in them, my foot was bleeding, I had 3 blisters, and a numb big toe. It turns out I have nerve damage and had to wear tennis shoes for three weeks. Cute boots, but I promptly chucked them out the window in anger. Tennis shoes don't go with anything!

Paper thin leather. They absolutely do not breathe, making them very sweaty. I have had a pair for 3 years. The leather has worn clean through in one place. Good points - they don't scuff floors, and they take a great shine.

Docs gone bad - They used to be made in England and now they are not. So, they send them to be made in Asia to save money but the quality of the boot is now terrible. So, they saved money, but the boot costs the same and quality is worse. This is my last pair.

Overrated, uncomfortable, punk rock crap. I hate these boots. I've worn them everyday for a month now and still they haven't "broken in." They fit perfectly, but I don't understand the so-called comfort rumors associated with these boots. I'm selling these pieces of crap on EBay soon to some unlucky trendoid who would be more satisfied with a $40 pair of Walmart Survivor boots. Don't waste your money!

I was disappointed that the boots came pre-worn. It feels like I paid for a used pair, not a new pair.

Second order that was returned by original buyer. No packing in box or boots. Creases in leather. And even tho it says removable inserts. They are glued in. Never again. From Zappos or Amazon. Especially since they are one in the same now.

These white Docs were a Christmas present for my daughter. She has a pair of black Docs that she loves and has always wanted to try the whites to see if they make her feet look too big. Apparently the blacks she has are a softer leather. The smooth white leather of these was so stiff that she said they would cut into her ankles so she didn’t even try to get them on. They are going back and we’re ordering pebbled leather to see if that works.

Really bummed about the non England made docs. I was a young guy in the 90’s and loved docs. But the last few pairs I’ve bought over the years have been very disappointing. I had high hopes for these. They arrived today, I tried them on, walked around the house for literally about 30 seconds and knew they were going back. Poor quality doesn’t even begin to describe what these things are. So very bummed about these cheap knockoffs. I’ve been looking at the made in England docs and would love to try them but they don’t really offer any colors other than black, white and red. If you’re remembering the great old docs you wore to lallapalooza back in the 90’s and thinking of grabbing these, keep your cash. These are garbage.

Just overall uncomfortable, especially in my calves. I felt like they were angled forward and when I stood straight they dug into the back of my leg.

While the look, fit, and comfort of the boot are great, the quality of materials is sub par at best. I’ve had terrible experiences with 2 pairs of boots, both Cherry Red Smooth. The leather creases, cracks, and begins to come apart after a period of a few months (5-6mo). I’ve tried with and without Doc’s recommended Wonder Balsam and the experience is identical. I’d understand this if I put them through tough work, but I’m barely putting wear on the soles before they give out. The leather used just does not last like the older British made boots. It feels plasticky and paper thin in high stress areas. Too bad the made in England boots aren’t available in the same color scheme.

Size 11. I live in VietNam and I can buy 'backdoor' (stolen) from workers at the factory here in VietNam, not rejects but boxed ready for retail sale. Even at deep 'discounts", I would never buy a Doc Martens again as these quality is poor, the leather sub-standard. In fact I used industrial super-glue to reinforce the heels. I noticed my 'sales contact' didn't wear Doc Martens, either. Time to find a quality alternative.

Ordered the Black Smooth Leather in a Men's 8 / Women's 9 (UK 7) and had to return them as defective merchandise due to cuts and gaps in the black rubber where the stitching is. Not only that, but the pair I received, made in Vietnam, were not 100% genuine leather, and places where the glue hadn't dried properly and it flipped upward to reveal the webbed textile backing found on pleather items. There was no indication that the boots were made of genuine leather, no smell even, though the loop tag wasn't the yellow tag found on the Vegan 1460s. I'm going through the actual DM site to purchase real leather boots made in England as my size is not in stock here.
