Bought these as a gift for my husband. He was very happy and he is quite picky

I have to agree with others that the quality on the leather has gone down. Size wise, I wear a 9.5 US, I bought the UK 9 and added the inserts and they fit perfect. So, if you are a US size, order a UK size 1 smaller, if you are a half size, add the inserts and you will be set.

I've been a long-time Dr. Martens 1460 wearer over the years, and these are no different. Consistent fit and quality are what keep me coming back, although you won't have to that often since these boots usually last a good 5yrs+ when cared for. I chose the Grizzly color for a new office/shop environment which works well without having to switch to full-dress shoes. All-in-all a great boot with no-frills.

Like them. These were a little stiff to break in and took a little time to loosen up. They could use a little more support. I recommend buying insoles.

Nice boots for casual wear. Definitely not for real blue collar work or long periods of tramping about. I have a low arch and these are very comfortable. Also I wear a D width and they fit loose without and insole. The leather requires little to no break in time. Size 12 slightly big.

Boots are great, but they run at least one full size large. I measure as a 10-1/2 wide, so I bought the size 11 (size 10 UK), and they feel like 11-1/2. I added an insole, laced them tight, and wear thicker sock to make them work.

One complaint: The fit around the ankle is way to loose. Last pair of 1460's did not have this problem. Seems to be inconsistent quality control among the different factories in Asia.

I normally wear a size 10 in Nike's and Jordans. I fit into a UK 8 (US 9) in these. I've only had them for one day so far but they look cool and started breaking in with one day wear. My heels do hurt a little but it should get better.

Nice boots, but not the Docs I used to wear back in the late '80s and early '90s. The leather is not as thick which makes the break-in period easy on the ankles, but I don't think they will last like my old ones did. If you can afford it, go with the Doc Martens for Life instead which have thicker leather. I always wear a size 8 shoe and these were no different in sizing. Toe box is a little narrower than what I am used to, but fit fine nonetheless.

This was my first experience with a pair of Docs and I'm more than satisfied! Despite the fact that I didn't heed the warning of the few reviews saying these bad boys ran a little large (which they do, about half a size), they're everything I expected and more. The "bouncing sole" of fame is absolutely wonderful- I can run like the wind in these puppies- something I never would've expected from a common pair of boots. Because I misevaluated the sizing, not a lot of "breaking in" was necessary for me. They look and feel great. Note: if you're looking for a more "classic" looking and feeling leather boot, don't go with the smooth black finish- it's a lot shinier than the photo gives away. It's much too soon to deem weather or not the brand lives up to it's claim of longevity, but I certainly don't doubt it and my brother has worn his pair through about a year and half of very frequent usage and they're still looking and feeling great (by his testament). The arch support could be a teensy bit better, but that's my only complaint. If worse comes to worse I'll buy some in-soles, but I'm not expecting it.

Took three pairs of boots sent to me to get a right boot that fit. Zappos was very helpful and gave me a coupon and I used that to order a pair of Birkenstocks Milano. These Doc Martens are about the same as the old ones made in England...I just had a problem with their quality control. Third pair was okay. My size 12 (US) didn't have any room to spare, but I kept the third pair and like them.

I had been searching for a pair of Doc that I had around 2001. I settled on the 1460's. They look great with the usual Doc quality. But the fit left some to be desired. Length wise was good. Width was ok at best. I have wide feet. I ordered the standard width because the leather stretches and once I got them broken in, they would be perfect. They were very loose around the ankle. Even tying them tight to the point where the sides touch, they are still very loose. Trying a different model online my not have been the best, but there are no Dr. Marten shops near by me.

I bought 2 pairs of the 1460s, one Smooth Black and the other Aztec. I bought the size I used to wear back in the 90s with my Docs. They are a little big but not bad, a thick sock took care of that, I couldn't have gotten them a size smaller. The black smooth looked so cheap, it looks like fake leather, UGH made in Viet Nam. On the other hand the Aztec looks good (still made in Viet Nam) but a different type of leather, a little distressed which I like, doesn't look fake. SO the black smooth are going back. It's all in the leather, I think the black greasy would look better but that is just my taste. I decided to get a black pair of the Dr. Marten's Vintage 1460s from another site as they are actually handmade in England like the good old days. Zappos is still my favorite place to buy shoes!

I wear a woman's 10, usually, and a UK8 is usually perfect, these in a UK 8 were far too big, I exchanged them for a UK7, which has been snug but definitely stretching out, SLOWLY. Regardless, I love them. I got these in "greasy" which is a good thick leather, I believe if you want to cut out on the wear-in time, nappa leather may be a good move.

This is my second pair, the first were too small, but they don't come in 1/2 sizes. I went a full size up and the boot fits with a little bit extra room; however, they are still comfortable.

I agree that the boots are not the same. My soles have worn off in less that 3 months. I bought them for the quality and style. But no function no fashion.

Got these because they're supposed to be great quality, cool shoes, comfortable etc. They are definitely cool, and of average comfort, though it did take a good month of wearing band-aids on my ankles to break them in. I agree with the other reviewers in that they aren't great quality. The leather is painted, not dyed, so in the first week of wear, a patch of the paint scraped off to reveal the tan leather underneath. It looks like mud on the shoe. I am now ~8 months into wearing them and they continue to develop cracks around the crease from walking. Which also open to reveal mud-colored bare leather. I'm all for distressed looking docs, but these uppers aren't getting distressed from wear: they're disintegrating. They still look cool, but I can tell that another week of wear will see a crack straight through to a hole. On sizing: I went with a size UK 4 (US 6) even though I usually wear a US 7, per the advice of other reviews to size down, and they fit.

Felt a little large, but Doc Martens tend to feel that way, and I've been cursed with narrow feet. Thick socks ought to do the trick. Look great, a little tough to break in. Glad I finally purchased these.

I love Docs and I have many pair. I ordered these in Cherry Red Smooth in January 2005. Still love them today. Unfortunately, they are still as uncomfortable today as they were when I bought them. The leather is very stiff. I used to get blisters on my heels every time I wore them. Now, I just remember to put band-aids on before I wear these Docs.

I was so excited to get these in the mail and sadly they are way too large. I wear a US9 so I ordered a UK7 but they were at least a full size to big. I will be sending them back. Unfortunately I will have to get another style since I can't find the ones I would like in my size, but that's okay because zappos makes it easy and all doc martins look good. I really wanted to give it 5 overall stars but since it's not true to fit I can't.

Well, I chose one size down and found out that it fits small. So I suggest that you should choose your normal size.

Definitely easier to break in than my original Docs, but the quality isn't the same as I remember, hopefully they'll last awhile. I've had my other pain 11 years, but I wanted something without a steel toe.

These boots run large. I'm a US 10.5 and got these in a US 10 and they're just about right. They're roomy but not loose. I recommend thick socks and guessing a size low if you're a half size. Break-in was effortless. I just wore them normally and did a lot of walking and after three days they felt fine. The only problem (if you drive a manual) is a little chafing on my clutch ankle, but that was gone after a week or two. The leather is good, but not the great quality of the old English-made DMs. They get softer with some elbow grease and Wonder Balsam. The semigloss greasy leather looks great and is water-resistant.

A lot has been said how how these aren't as good as when the company was English (I suppose the same was said by the Germans when production moved to the UK). But at this price you're not going to be able to buy a pair of English shoes (or even a pair of Red Wings), now are you? What you are buying is a pair of boots with a great oil resistant/non-slip sole and a leather upper that, yes is thin and treated to the point of being synthetic, but has proven to me to be very resistant against scratching/abrasion. I also found the fit to be longer and wider than normal, but not quite the full 1/2 size larger as stated by other reviewers. Probably bigger enough to accommodate an extra thick pair of socks in the Winter, but not enough that a smaller size would work better. Maybe one day I'll ask Santa for a pair of Solovairs, but for now these are proving to be a good pair of motorcycle boots.
I'd also recommend:
