I wanted a waterproof , lightweight shoe for the miles and miles I walk my dog in the pnw rain. Got the wide, but something is definately off in the fit of this shoe. I'm a 6.5 W and my toe was almost to the edge of the shoe. Despite being a wide, the shoe felt tight along the arch of my foot . . . maybe because the tongue is fixed. The laces are impossible to move. This shoe was a big fail for me. If only Solomon made the speedcross 6 W in GTX. There are virtually no options in GTX for a wide foot. Back to the drawing board.

The top of the shoe was made of a strange, unmovable plastic material. It actually hurt the top of my foot to get the shoe off. The tongue of the shoe also gathered up on the top of my foot. This was the oddest pair of HOKA's I have ever tried, and I own a few. The shoe was very light weight and the sole tread was fantastic. If only the top of the shoe was made of a better material. They went back right away.

I love the Speedgoat. I have been wearing them for YEARS! I like having a Gortex pair for the winter, however, every year the Gortex is only offered in black. This is getting a bit boring. Please come up with some other color combinations!

I love the Speedgoat 5 trail shoe. I was excited to buy the 6, but it was such a disappointment. I really liked the pattern of the 6. The toe box was so big and bulky and I tripped over my own feet. I returned it and purchased the 5 which I love.

The shoes are okay, nothing to write home about, certainly not the money I paid; they are too tight, not quite wide enough. I was able to wear them all day, to try and break them in, and I went for a 2-mile walk. The bottom of my feet hurt afterward. I'm not sure if I can wear them on a hike. I don't think they have the right support for climbing.

The tongue of this shoe is sewn down on both sides. If you loosen the laces to widen the fit, nothing changes; I found the shoe too constricting.

These are nice shoes but the top of the shoe is very narrow and I had to return them. I do not have a wide foot and other brands fit fine.

THEY RUINED THE SPEEDGOATS :-( I've raced competitively in Speedgoat 5s for the last 2 years. I was so excited to get the 6s, but they changed so much about the shoes that they caused blisters and hurt my ankles. I was looking forward to wearing them at the Spartan Ultra World Championships in France on the 4th of July but will now be going another direction. WHAT A HORRIBLE REDESIGN AND A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!

Hiked in Norway, New Zealand, and in other very steep inclines. These shoes grip the rock and give stability- even in wet and slippery conditions! They are also very comfortable, and suited to everyday hikes in the parks. I wish for more color options, but LOVE these shoes!

This is my 3rd pair of the Speedgoat and it always is a perfect fit! I wear for dog walking in the wet park year round and for light hiking. I have hallux rigidus and the toe bed is great!

This is the 4th pair of Speedgoat hiking shoes I have bought and they are perfect. I didn't even break them in as I went on a 9 mile hike first thing and.they felt so comfortable before and after the hike. The best part about these shoes is that they are built more narrower than the other hoka brands. I laugh at all the comments that people write about stating they are too tight or please make them wider. I think NO WAY, buy another brand then; it's hard to find narrow, hiking shoes. And I will always buy speedgoats because of this one factor. Please do not change them. A very happy customer!!!!!

Bought these to train for the TMB this fall. Finally a women's size 12 that has enough room to wear a thick hiking sock. Also can fit my full-shoe orthotics in them. Would give an additional star but haven't worn them enough to see how the water-proofing holds up. One last thing- the inverted V-shape of the tongue is just weird. Most folks use the tongue to help pull on a shoe. Plus the bow of the laces rests partially on the top of my sock- so some much needed padding has been eliminated.

The grip on loose, rocky trails is amazing! Better than several pairs of “proper” hiking boots I have. I live in Southern CA and our trails are gritty and rocky. I haven’t tested the waterproofing yet, but I choose these with Gortex to serve as walking shoes on rainy days and for vacation hiking. The heel is not as cupping as I would prefer. That’s the one star off - more of just a half star off really. They’re not slipping, just not quite as high on the heel as I would like. I’ve worn them for a bunch of six mile hikes and will reach for them next time. Feeling sure footed on steep slopes is fabulous!

This is my 3rd pair of Hokas so I felt confident that the size would be a good fit. I will be wearing them on a trek in place of hiking shoes and so far they feel great!

The speedgoat and challenger 7 fit completely diff . I’m finding that there’s a different model for every type of feet.
I'd also recommend:
Hoka challenger

I own a previous model of the Speedgoat GTX, and this edition definitely runs smaller: narrower and not as tall top to bottom. When I put my orthotics in (which I use in the old pair), I could barely get my foot into the shoe. Incredibly tight. I tried a half size larger, and it did not help. I did, however, find the non-gore tex Speedgoat roomy enough.
I'd also recommend:
Dansko, Brooks, Aetrex, Chaco, LL Bean for hiking shoes

I love the speedgoat 5 and have had 3 pairs. The speedgoat 6 is far narrower and has a smaller toebox. I wanted and needed this shoe for an England trip- i am very sad it didnt fit!!!!
