It is an extraordinary high performing functional shoe in all respects! The ease and functionality slip on and off makes it very user friendly. I'll use these primarily for both hiking and walking extremely comfortable.

I love these sneakers. They're great! One small issue is that they run a tad small.

Transport is a perfect all around for on and off road. Followed this with a more aggressive Anacapa. Looks large on your feet but well worth the results you get while hiking and such. I'm more comfortable wearing transports but the tongue webbing on the sides in the Anacapa are more defensive of debris entering the shoe. Anacapa is more agressive but both are amazing. Transport GTX is awesome, though.

Bought these because I love my wide bondis. I love the shoes but can't wear them. They are to narrow for me and squeeze my outside two toes together so they hurt. Back to my keen hikers I guess.

First off I wanted to echo what another reviewer said that these run a bit small. I'm a solid size 11 in other Hoka shoes... Gaviota 5, Clifton 9, and Challenger 7. They aren't so small that I need a half size up, but if you were tight normally, go for the half size up here. Second, they are hot on my feet! I tested putting my hand in the shoe and trying to blow through the mesh and there's no real airflow. Third the heel tab for the "slip on" feature (which I don't use) will catch on your pants. So your pants cuff will always be tucked behind it, and in my case, the bright blue and orange tab is always hanging out. I can manually adjust my pants to go over the heel tab but as soon as I sit down it's undone. If you care about that, I'd say they are best with shorts... but that's at odds with them being so hot on your feet. Lastly, they are best for hiking. Compared to the other hoka shoes I listed they are heavier and more rugged. They don't have the same springiness of the running shoes. Instead you feel more grounded to the terrain, again, great for hiking.

I've been seeing a lot of ads lately for different shoe brands offering 'new' step-in style footwear that you don't have to bend over or sit down to put on. Instead you, just jam your toes into the top and push your heel down and off you go. I've wondered how these would work in practice and when Hoka debuted the Anacapa 2 Free I decided to try a pair. The styling, craftmanship and cushioning are all the same high quality that you'd expect from this brand. That said, I'm not totally sold on the step-in feature. In order to keep the heel cup from collapsing under the weight of your heel a hard plastic cup that's flared out towards the back of the shoe facilitates the step-in donning experience. However, if you're heel isn't lined up pretty much on center with the heel cup your foot will deviate off to the left or right and make insertion into the shoe difficult. I find I have to pay close attention to what I'm doing and may have to withdraw my foot and try again a time or two to get them to go on easily. Finally, the rearward flare of the heel cup is somewhat pronounced and looks a bit odd. If you wear the shoes with pants or jeans the rear cuff will catch on the heel cup flare and you'll have to pull the pants up over the protruding heel cup so you don't look dorky.

This is my 2nd Hoka purchase. I have high arches and the sewn in tongue on the Anacapa does not permit my high arched feet to fit inside my usual 10.5 sized shoe. Regretfully I am using Hoka's 60 day free return to send the shoes back.

Compared to my Anacappa 1 & 2 Low GTX previous models I've gone through I have to say the Anacappa 2 Freedom is a little too snug in th width comparison. Length is okay. Hope in time that they loosen up a bit. I wear a men's size 12 regular.

Good shoe for lateral stability and hoka cushion, but is wide/loose in the toe box. Other hokas I've bought were fine. I don't recall the shoe bing described as being for wider feet.

The tow box is small. The shoe is very tight/restricting. Otherwise as usual Hoka makes great shoes.

I have now purchased three different pairs of Hokas for trail hiking that have the vibram soles. My expectations for vibram products are durability and grip above and beyond a typical running shoe sole. My experience in all three cases is that the ball area of the sole is worn down to the point of losing 90% of the lugs in less than three months of average wear (15-20 miles per week) in a variety of surfaces. Other hiking shoes with vibram soles I own would hardly show any wear with this type of use, so I'm pretty disappointed with the HOKA/Vibram durability. I understand that trail runners need more flexibility and softer soles, but putting a Vibram label on what amounts to a standard running shoe sole is pretty questionable, and I won't be buying any more Hokas because of it.

I really like the way these shoes feel, but after about 3 weeks all of these black leather portions began to fade. They are very faded or washed out looking and have almost a greenish tint. I used some black leather dye to fix the issue, but definitely lose a few stars for this. Since this is an aesthetic problem - it doesn't affect the shoes- which are well made otherwise and are great running/ walking shoes.

I bought these shoes to play golf in. They work fine for golf, but like others have mentioned the fit is too tight in the toe. Especially in the right foot. Has given me a blister on my right big toe. Loosened the laces at the toe, maybe better. Planning to try a thinner sock. Still have 30 days to exchange....we'll see how it goes

After comparing different models of HOKA shoes many times, I decided to buy this special pair. When I received it, it was really eye-catching. I couldn't wait to put it on and found that the left and right feet felt different. The left foot was tight and solid, without any feeling of "too tight". But the right foot was a "disaster". The insteps of my left and right feet are not the same height, but the insteps are not high on the right and low on the left. But after trying on the right shoe, I felt it was very tight. The instep of the right foot showed the mark of the shoe cover after wearing it. I went home and observed it carefully. It turned out that the space formed by the lining on the left and right sides of the shoe is different. The reason why the left side is comfortable and there is no discomfort is that I think the left side is the same as the size label. But the right side is "small". Now I haven't asked HOKA to return it. I hope to wear it again to see if the right shoe will be loosened. I love HOKA shoes too much! ! There is indeed no heel pain after wearing it. Maybe this ANACAPA 2 FREEDOM model fits the foot better. Shoes are industrial products, and the sewing process is always done by hand. It is inevitable that the left and right shoes are different sizes.

This version of the Anacapa is narrower in the toe box than previous versions. The incorporated tongue makes it tighter across the top of the foot. I'll go back to the breeze.

This seems to fit small, and the tongue type makes it so tight over the foot that it is uncomfortable.

On the third day of wearing these the right shoe started squeaking as i walked, no matter the surface i walked on. The next week the left one started doing the same. Now everyone knows when its me coming because you can hear me squeaking my way through the shop, parking lot, grassy areas too.

First time owning a hoka shoe and I really enjoyed the pair. Unfortunately after wearing for a few months I noticed on the edge of my foot I developed an uncomfortable/ painful corn. After I started swapping shoes I determined the pain only occurred when wearing these. The pressure point on the shoe caused it all along. I don't typically wear wide shoes but I highly recommend against this shoe if your feet are remotely wide.

I am not sure if it's because the the lining inside of this show but the sizing is off, I had to return them (size 12) for a 12-1/2 when I normally wear a 11-1/2 (Gaviotas and another style). I already know that Hoka's tend to run small on larger sizes but these shoes are particularly tight. Hope Hoka figures out their sizing for larger sizes.

The first pair of Anacapas were great. Good support and durability. Lasted me 6 months. This latest pair have proven not as good. This pair has a tendency to collapse my medial arch. I'll need arch supports to help me traverse the mountains and rugged hills. Really hard on my ankles.
