I like this backpack, but I wish it had a stronger bottom. It also doesn't hold as much stuff as I would like it to.

Our family has been buying LLBean backpacks for 40+ years. I personally still use one that is still in excellent condition from high school (over 25 years old). All of the backpacks purchased for our oldest (now in college) are still in excellent shape and, up until this year, so are the ones for our youngest (now in 8th grade). Sadly, we purchased this bag and within 2 weeks the handle ripped off on one side and shoulder straps were pulling away. We just received a replacement (the Super Deluxe instead because this was out of stock) and the zipper mechanism is shoddy on the front pocket. We know it will break if we keep it. It's nearly impossible to unzip in the 2 places where the reflective material is sewed under the zipper. Very disappointing LLBean.

Attractive color combinations. Functional design and features, but missing key fob, clip or hook to hang the keys inside the bag. Versatile travel backpack. Handle loop on the top. Extra foam padding and breathable mesh straps for added comfort and support. Padded laptop compartment and organizer panel with multiple zippered pockets. Sternum strap and tuck-away waist belt. Stretchy water bottle pockets on the sides. Reflective trim for 360-degree visibility. Reinforced, sturdy bottom and well-stitched seams. Roomy storage capacity and organized design. Great quality smooth-running zippers. Mineral Gray/Asphalt.

I have not bought it after playing around with it on the flagship store floor. It cant stay upright, which, for me, is mandatory in a pack designed to be frequently opened and closed while taking things out and putting them back in. Even after releasing the side straps and sort of puffing out the compartment spaces, it refused to stand upright. In contrast, the Super Deluxe III stayed completely upright when I did the same. The Super Deluxe also has a superior arrangement for pencils, pens, and other desk work accessories. I much prefer the look of the Portable Locker, and I like the chest support straps, but the darn thing is too tippy.

This comfortable backpack has a useful variety of pockets. The fabric and zippers are not as sturdy as similar past models.

The two zipper pack I had in junior high was way smaller than I remembered! A wonderful LL Bean associate helped me pick this pack out. Its perfect for work (active duty Navy and packs must be black or matching camo). I have a large 3 ring zippered binder, a Rite n the Rain planner and clipboard and I still have room. The shoulder straps are padded and Im able to evenly distribute the weight on my hips and shoulders. Great buy and worth the money.

excellent design, very usable as a backpack. the reason I did not give 5 starts is the handle at the top. It is very thin and uncomfortable to use if the backpack is heavy. My son has had the backpack for about 3 weeks and the handle is starting to rip off. The backpack will need to be returned.

Great bag! Super comfortable and holds everything we need it too! As a homeschooler we take a lot of books all over the place and this bag allows everything to be organized, easily grabable, and super comfy to carry.

My 16 yr old son beamed when I brought home this replacement for his previous pack which had ripped through the bortom- The locker fits all the days books, lunch and sports gear with a sturdy bottom and supportive straps- definitely a step up from his previous pack- thanks!

I got the bag and it was extremely large. I really like the bookbag and it fits alot of my school stuff including 3 2 inch binders, and huge text books. I have been trying to get a replacement/return it as the handle broke, but the color is out currently and i can't get a replacement

My daughter got this for college last year (2021). It carries so much, which is great when you have back-to-back classes and no time to return to the dorm. There is space for the laptop, charger, etc and it stays organized. She got a bright blue which makes it easy to spot among the sea of backpacks.
The kids use open cubbies or corners to drop their bags in the dining hall or group meeting places (often there are 50-100 bags...seriously). Having the bright color helps to locate bags quickly to move on to the next class or meeting. My only request is that LL Bean bring back the color selection with bright colors.
All the colors available are muted or muddied. When you have a group of bags like that, it is more difficult to differentiate your bag, even if you add a trinket on it. We have another child leaving for school his year, wants the same bag, but not the colors available. Please bring back this back pack in more colorful options.

This backpack was the largest size we could find. It holds all my sons books. The school does not have lockers so he has to carry 5 text books and 3 note books. plenty of room. It is comfortable to wear. We did have to return the first one due to the strap coming apart. But the return process was easy. The replacement backpack works fine. The top u strap is coming apart, however that was mentioned in previous reviews. but overall a good backpack for a middle school kid.

Just purchased this item, so cannot address durability, yet, What I can say is that if the zipped area of the backpack is not filled with several items, the front pouch hangs open - not tight to the rest of the pack. There is no way to tighten those side straps beyond a certain point. so items in the pouch can fall out a little too easily, if smooth and/or small.

Backpack was great except for the water bottle pockets were incredibly shallow. My cups or bottles would not have stayed. I returned it.

I decided to buy as much quality as I could afford to get what I hoped was a product that would suit my needs and last well. I have been using my new backpack for less than two months and sadly the carry loop on the back is breaking already. I do love the look of my backpack and the design is adequate. However, I am disappointed in the quality

I so wanted to love this backpack. It's super spacious and can hold a lot of stuff. It's well made and the color is my favorite. But it's just not for me. The back was heavy even when empty, so once I added my usual stuff, it was weighty. The straps were stiff and just didn't fit my 5' 2" slight frame.

Great Bag and a good size, but strap ripped in 1 week. They are going to replace it but it's back ordered for 2 months.

This was a great bag for my son when we initially bought it a year ago. However the bag did not last a year before one of the handles started ripping on top. He used it for school and travelled with it once.

I bought the mineral gray/asphalt color. The sizing is perfect to fit all my daughter's school supplies in it, but when it came in the colors were much darker than I expected it to be. The picture showed it to be much lighter and have small coral straps on the front, but it was a much darker shade of gray and the small straps were very red in real life making it a bit boyish looking. Still I would definitely recommend it for those who need more space and organization!

2 of my kids used these bags for 7th and 9th grade. By the end of the first semester the stitching at the top of the straps on both bags started unraveling, some of the reflective material wore off, and the straps overall weren't looking great. :( Disappointed In the quality for the price.

We love LLBean. We have been buying their backpacks for years and have never had any issues with their quality. The ones my kids used from kindergarten to middle school are still in good condition. However, last year we wanted a bigger one because my son needed more space for his laptop and books. Despite being the most expensive model, we chose this one as it seemed to be the best option. Unfortunately, after a few months of use, one of the straps and the hanger started ripping away. I'm very disappointed with the quality and durability of this model.
