This top was definitely mis-sized! I usually wear a medium in an L.L. Bean top, but there were none left, and this was on a nice sale, so I decided to try the small. When I tried it on, it was huge! The shoulders were about 3 inches too long, and the width of the entire top was that of a large instead of a small. I loved the coral color, but the fit was a no. So, I had to send it back.

Disappointed that this sailcloth top was not in the original fashion as several years ago. Compared with an old one I've about worn to threads, this one is "boxy." And the shoulders are almost too wide to hide undergarment straps.

I found this top to be boxy sacklike and unflattering. The fabric is soft, thick and comfortable and does not cling; the colors are attractive., however the design of the shirt is off. The boat neck is too wide even for petite size. This shirt top is a miscalculation in design.

This shirt was a disappointment. The dropped shoulders, the large sleeves, the boxy fit, the stitching on the thin neckline did not work for me. Based on the reviews, I bought 2 sizes to try, didn't even take the small out of the bag. Bring back the older version of the striped, boatneck mariner top! The fabric, fit and style of that one was just right.

This was returned. The quality was not the same as similar shirts purchased years before.

This knit shirt is nothing like the original mariner top. The fabric is light weight with no body to it.

I was disappointed in the style of the Mariner boatneck shirt. The style is nothing like the old style shirt. These new ones have the dropped shoulder and are much wider than the previous shirts. Please bring back the old style!

Not the same kind of cotton as previous sleeves to long. The ones that I bought in the previous year were better quality.

So very disappointed with these tops. (Bought 2 in 2 different colors) This cut of this The Heritage Mariner top is as short as it is OVERwide. It's like they cut the bottom shorter so the width could be supersized! I don't want to try a smaller size to find out the bottom hem is still barely to the top of my hips and from what I have now read in the reviews--all sizes of this product are too wide. The drop sleeves added to the unbecoming vision I saw in my mirror. Quality control?

I was looking forward to getting this top, but it feels 3 sizes too big. Returned.

Sent back right away. Great fabric, and love that it was heavier weight. But the boat neck in way too wide on me, and the medium (my usual size) was too big and loose fitting. Not much shape to shirt either. Love the stripes, tried the navy. Sorry it did not work out.

For several years I've grabbed the LLBean catalog the minute it hit my mailbox, to check whether my beloved French Sailor's Shirt was back again. The ad copy hinted that his new shirt was a new-and-improved returned version of my old favorite. Alas, no. The overall body fit was loose and floppy. The new shorter length, sadly, made it the same length that my ten-year-old Sailor shirts had shrunk to -- guaranteed to show off one's "muffin top" area. The sleeves were wider, especially at the opening, and more of a 7/8 length than a 3/4 length, looking floppy overall instead of trim. And the decision to make the neck facing out of a narrow navy-blue band, instead of a wider piece of the same (mostly-cream-colored) fabric as the shirt, is just incomprehensible. On the positive side, the fabric on the new shirt seemed pretty close to that on the old one. The original Sailor's shirt was simply perfection; this attempt to improve or update it was a disappointment.

A far cry from the original Mariner top. The material is much thinner and it is a different cut. A disappointment from a 'heritage' company!

Beautiful classic updated version of the French Sailor. New twist on the dropped shoulders. True to size and fabulous for the spring.

I love the top but it does not fit me in the shoulders. Way too big. First time I've ever had a problem with the fitting. If I were wider in the shoulders I would have kept it. I need to return it.

Size small was too big. Ordinarily wear a Small. Daughter usually wears Medium, she kept it but it was amost too big for her.

Very unhappy - Doesn't fit or look like the picture - may send them back but don't appreciate having to pay the return shipping when the item is not satisfactory & I've already paid shipping to have the size change once before.

I really wanted one of these. In fact, I ordered two of them - navy and sea salt. When I took them out of the box, I thought the fabric was awesome and assumed they would definitely be keepers. Then I tried them on. And OMG. Worst, least flattering of any LL Bean item ever. I tried both just to make that one wasn't an abomination that slipped thru QC, but nope, these were equally heinous. The boatneck - a style I love - was so wide, and then the rest of the shirt was like a box. And I like "boxy", but not when it's literally like wearing a huge moving box. They were too long, too wide, too wrong. Back they went. This is a piece that has clearly been a staple for many. How did it all go so wrong? I don't know, but I hope LL Bean fixes it. Until then, Saturday t-shirts for me (though the range of colors is totally limiting me to white this year). I *may* try the funnel neck in this fabric, but first, I have to get over the trauma of this shirt. It's that bad.

I loved the shirt but not the fit. The description said relaxed fit, but this would be relaxed on an elephant. I bought a smaller size based on a review- way too large-so I tried a petite. Still too wide. I love the shirt, so I am going to try the extra small next.

Please bring back the original! I enjoy four colorways of the original model top ( the Navy) which have lovely fabric, fit, drape, and style. The new one I'm returning - it's tee shirt weight, and just square. No style. Please LL Bean, we don't want cheaper, just your best quality.

I loved the color of this new mariner shirt and the slightly lighter weight (I have four of Bean's older, heavier mariner shirts). Perfect for the warmer weather. But the size ran so huge! I always order large for sweaters and T's so they don't cling, but this large was a full 5" wider than my other larger mariners and T's. The neck drooped off my shoulders. I hated sending it back. It didn't shrink at all when I washed it. Would love to get a smaller size, but the hassle of a medium still being too big, or a small too tight, is not worth the time and effort. Please, keep the fabric but return to the older design measurements.

I bought this and returned it right away. The shirt looked boxy and the sleeves droopy.
