10 hole all the way. My alltime favourite Doc boot. I have worn DMs for years now, but always come back to the black ten hole boot. Stylish, whatever you wear, wherever you go, if you're on your feet all day, Doc's do the job. If I had to give one piece of advice to anyone it would be, "Buy a pair of Doc Boots" You will not be disappointed.

I really could have used half sizing. Had to go half size up but it was just so big and clunky looking and I needed 2 pairs of socks. Half size down was too tight. But really good quality shoes and such a classic. I wish they fit, they would have lasted for years both style wise and quality wise.

Very comfortable boot! I will admit they don’t last as long as other more expensive brand of boot but for the price they are good. Also not the best boot to be hiking in the woods these are city slicker boots but do their job well. Other boots that are better for hiking and outdoor work aren’t as comfortable so I like these for what they are! Great fit too!

The smooth black leather and signature styling are still the same as they ever were. They are still made very well. The sizing as compared to 5 and 10+ years ago has changed. Have been wearing docs for decades. I happen have a pair of 1490's from 5 years ago. They fit true to size at a UK7 (I wear women's size 9 in most shoes). The UK7 I just ordered and returned to zappos felt at least a full size larger, fit more like a women's 10-10.5. My feet were sliding around in them. Also some 1490's I have from 5 years ago (Thailand as opposed to a china) had a removable insole which was nice if you prefer replacing it with a supportive insole to fit your posture needs. I don't like wasting time and money trying to make footwear fit correctly, I just prefer staring with well fitting footwear and then switching the insole if I need to. I had intended to replace my older 1490's because I got a deep scratch on the toe. Some pigmented shoe cream, leather conditioner, and wonder balsam have them looking so nice I'll keep them and look for replacement at a later date.

I have avoided docs since the 90's the quality went down and the price went up after they started making them in China and honestly ( I was 17) they just lost their punk Cred whem everybody started wearing them ( yes, I said I was 17). I have been wearing the same boots since then ( Corcoran jump boots ). But , now I have new job and walk all day and my feet were sore so remembered the soles we're comfortable so I thought with a little young punk hesitation I bought a pair. So my feet don't hurt at the end of the day now and I have to admit there is a homey feeling about them. They are near impossible to break in haven't had a pair of boots this hard to break in since my last docs but if you look up how to soften leather boots with mink oil online you will find a couple of techniques that require coating them with mink oil and letting them set for a day or two and they will be a little easier on your feet.

I WILL like these boots. I don't understand why Dr. Martens has to make a boot that fresh out of the box is like sticking your foot in a plastic sleeve with sharp edges. Honestly, after getting them on and laced up they didn't feel that bad. I normally wear an 8 1/2 so I ordered a UK 7. It fits me perfectly, but if you tend to be on the upper end of 8 1/2 you might want to bump up to the larger size. I wore them with some basic black crew socks for the 1st couple times and they started to hurt a bit after an hour or so of wear. This has gotten significantly better with 5 or 6 more wears, but they're still stiff as boards. I don't really get why... is Dr. Martens just trying to torture us? I WILL love them once they are broken in, but I don't know how long that will be.

I usually wear a US women's 9, so I got the UK 7s, then remembered that my other pair of Docs are UK 6s and fit perfectly. They were out of 6s, though, so I just stuck with the 7s. They do feel a bit too big, but I wear hand knit wool socks that are pretty thick, so it should be okay. I did have to re-lace them to make them tighter and more comfortable. I wore them around the house for a few hours and they were comfy on my feet, but when I wore them to work all day the tops of the boots did rub my calves a little raw. Longer socks or boot cuffs should fix that problem. I got the cherry red and they are a really nice, rusty red color that seems fairly neutral (not a primary color red). I generally have foot and back problems, but when I wear my old Docs I don't have any issue with my back or feet, so I expect the same from these. I wish they had more pull-on or zip-up options because lacing and unlacing them to get them on and off is a bit of a PITA.

These run large with totally flat foot beds - no arch support or additional cushioning. Zappos' price on shoes are good, but accessories (Doc's footbeds, wonder balm, waterproofing) are significantly more expensive.

I first ordered the cherry red color and the color is a bit more eccentric than I could handle, so I sent those back and almost immediately a day later, I had a black pair at my door. The return is easy. The customer service was actually pretty good (not company writing this!). I've worn these for about 100 hours worth. The break in was a day. At first the leather and sole squeak bad, but since their leather(?) they will still minor squeak when you shift your legs and what not (it makes that leather sound everyone around can hear). They scuff & scratch real easy. The toes are already all scratched up. I'm moderately hard on shoes and I presume they'll last about 6-12 months till their unwearable. The sole is pretty flat if you have arched feet, but the gel shock soles are rather nice on heel pain. Oh, and the laces included are 100% too short.

I ordered the cherry red, love the color. Treat with waterproofer and the color darkens up just a bit; it is very nice. Boots tend to run large and wide, not too wide, just wider than normal. Takes a little breaking in.

Very nice - Boots felt half a size too large. Leather is still a little stiff, but will work itself out with time.

Dr.martens - Very nice boots, good look took a while to get used to. Only bad thing is they are hard leather and don't stretch too much and they rubbed my heel but other than that they are great.

Zappos is the best! It's true, Doc's are not held to the quality they used to be, but still a great boot. Hint - hammer the back of the boots (cover with a rag) to soften them before wearing. It really cuts down on "break-in" time. Zappos is the best place I have ever shopped on-line!!

Searched 'til found. I'm 6'6" tall with size 15 feet and I have a rough time finding shoes in my size. My first pair of Zappos boots was the DM 1490. I knew from reading the reviews that they would take a bit to break in. They truly live up to their reputation as being comfortable. After a month of hard labor (250 lbs of me plus what I pack) they show little wear. Perhaps the best wearing boot I've had to date. They look great (I love the look of shiny black and I polish them often). Unfortunately they don't breath. Overall; an excellent choice for any hard working individual.

Disappointed. Over all, Doc's are by far the best deal out there. But I was disappointed that they didn't even last 18 months. Which is about twice as long as most other boots have lasted me. After wearing the soles near flat, they formed cracks and the leather insole started ripping appart.

I love docs & have worn them since the 90's. However, the quality seems to be lacking. On this particular pair that I just received, the insole doesn't reach all the way to the toe and seems that QC10 wasn't doing their job. There is about 1/4" gap between the end of the insole and the end of the boot so my toes aren't completely on the insole. Very disappointed.

Somehow, in the past 2 decades of wearing other non-Docs brands of boots, I'd forgotten how unbearably uncomfortable they are when new and how long it takes to break them in compared to other boots. It's just not worth it to try to return to wearing Docs when there are so many more boot options than there were 25 years ago.

They were small and uncomfortable, kind of flimsy. I knew all of this but decided they weren’t cute enough for the lack of quality/for the price and returned them. Return was easy.

This boot is now made in China. Don't know if the leather is the same as those made in England, but these are taking some time to break in. Boot felt large so just wore thicker socks. I am hoping they will break in soon. As for now not too happy with them.

I wanted to like these but my feet told me otherwise - I wanted to like these but they hurt my ankles so much I returned them. The leather is so stiff that it impedes bending and pokes into the foot. If you are willing to wait weeks to break these in for more comfort then by all means get them. If you are looking for comfort right away, stay away.
