Great boot. Runs very large. Had to order my son several sizes of different Dr Martens boots to find the right size. This size 9 fits best but the tongue wasn't sewn down and it bothered him so I already ordered another one. He normally wears a mens 10 1/2 or 11 size shoe!

I bought this shoe out of a desire to "bring punk back" (it never really left) and I have to say people have been noticing, and I have received numerous complements on them. If you want a hardcore style shoe, this is the one, and also if you just want a boot that can last, look no further than the 1490 from Dr. Martens.

Bought them for my daughter for Christmas and she loves, loves, loves, them. They were too big and Zappos made the exchange process very easy so I will be always ordering from them!

They are excellent! Make my husband look like a dignified grunge 90s rocker. And it's a soft dulled shine on the black outer leather. Not too shiny like patent leather. They were a little tough and rough for breaking in, but after a few weeks they were broken in. Well worth it!

Very comfortable boots! I've been wearing other boots for a long time now and I didn't even have a problem breaking these in like some reviews said. I wear these daily at work and I constantly get compliments on them.

My husband knows how much I love Doc Martens, and picked up a pair of 1490's for me for Xmas!! Just what I wanted. :) I've owned so many other pairs before- green lug-sole 1460's in the late 90's, a couple pairs of 90's maryjanes, a black 20-eye knee boot, 3-eye oxfords and now this lovely black boot. The leather seemed both stiffer and thinner than my English made boots, but they're already comfortable after just 3 days. Working on getting them creased in all the right places now. I wear US 6 1/2-7 in most shoes and I've owned Docs in both UK 4 & 5. My 1490s are size 4 and still have room for thick socks. Up the PUNX!!!

Love these. I bought them originally when I worked at a grocery store and was on my feet all day. They hold up great, clean easily, and are super comfy. No need for a lengthy dialogue here, overall fantastic leathers. Do yourself a favor and get a pair. You'll have them for years.

I really agonized after reading the reviews about buying these. I am recovering from an ankle injury and the choice was have my foot in a cast or get some really good boots. I finally opted for these. I got them in the smooth leather; I kind of wish I had gotten the Napa leather because it would have been softer. These boots give excellent support of my ankles. I can wear them all day and have none of my normal ankle pain at the end of the day. I did not have a break-in period. I wear a size 9W (women's) and ordered size 41 hoping that they would not pinch my foot. I have a neuroma on one foot and any tightness at all across the wide part of my foot results in agony. The size 41 if anything might be a little on the big side. I kind of wish that I had gotten a size 40. However, they are very comfortable with thick socks which will be great in cold weather. I wore them all day the first day and several days since. Maybe the secret to no break in period is making sure you get a big enough size? I have bad arches (my feet are just bad in general) and I have a pretty pronounced pronation on one side. I wear orthodics in my other shoes but do not need them in these. I think because they stabilize my ankles so well. The one thing, as I said, is that I wish I had gone for the Napa leather instead of the shiny black because it would have been softer. I would definitely buy another pair and would love some in cherry red.

I have a lovely pair of Dr. Martens which I love. My husband's boots were wearing out and I suggested he get a pair of these and after shopping around a little bit we ordered them from Zappos. We are both very happy not only with the boots (which are perfect and exactly what my husband wanted) but with the excellent service and very easy to navigate website. I just bought yet another pair of boots for myself and I'm sure I'll be back again soon. (I give four stars for style only because I personally prefer the not so shiny leather kind of Docs.)

These are great boots and that is what you get from Dr. Martens all the time. This is my 8th pair of the brand. They run large, I wear a size 12US Nike/Adidas and that translates to a 11 US in these boots. They are the most comfortable boots that you will ever wear! Zappos has great customer service so order away!

I bought these after a long decision process that lasted months, actually. I've never bought Dr. Martens and I've never bought boots in general, so I was nervous about everything, but I had to have these! They embody classic punk style and if that's what you re into they are essential! Of course they're just the perfect boot and covered by any pant would be subtle and acceptable to wear all the time. They shine great with oil; just as shiny as the Dr. Martens made with patent leather, I bet. They are ultra comfortable to the point of not wanting to take them off because lacing them up is very time consuming. They don't come in half sizes so I got a half size up (a 12) and they fit perfect. I'd recommend getting a half size up if you wear a half size. These are just the perfect boot if you re borderline. Just get them and you'll grow to love them with each passing day. The quality is definitely worth the price.

Amazing. I live in these boots. I walk every day from school and back 2 miles in these boots they are really comfortable. I wear them winter, summer, day in and day out. I've run from cops, jumped walls, walked 20 miles. I truly love my docs. They are the only shoes I own. And the only ones I need.

Boots arrived less than 24 hours after ordering - now that is awesome. Read the reviews on DM1490 first, so I knew what to expect. Also browsed owner reviews on external sites and learned that there are Thai-made DMs and of course Chinese-made DMs. My pair happen to be the latter. Opened the box, laced them up, put them on and went to work. Shift lasted 8+ hours and was on my feet during 90% of that time. Only slight discomfort in the toe box, but I have wide feet. Otherwise these are an excellent fit, perfect height (10-eye), and pretty good bouncy sole. I suggest discarding the plasticky insole and replacing them with better Dr Scholl's or similar for better comfort.

A classic and timeless no-nonsense boot. Five stars all around. Fits a little large if you're a half-size, so get your boot socks ready.

These appear to be very good boots. I wore them around the house for a day or so and they quickly broke in just by wearing them. I found, though, that the upper between the toes and the laces was too low for my foot. It was quite tight on top. Now I noticed as I broke them in that this was going away, but I like plenty of room for an insole and maybe a thick winter sock. Anyway, I found the identical boot (essentially) with just a larger toe box, the 1919. Zappos sent the 1919 out no problem (overnight, no less) so I could try them out side by side and the 1919 seems to be just the boot for me. (This was my first experience with Zappos and it was a great one. Amazing service!) I was worried that the steel toe in the 1919 might be too heavy but I don't notice much if any difference. And I suppose the protection is an added bonus. These Docs are truly Classic!

I'm still breaking these boots in, but I'm happy with them -- my first pair of Docs. They do tend to run a bit large, so I may wear very thick socks or wear two pairs of socks. It's a classic look!

These take a day or two to break in, a little too stiff on the top of your foot, but comfy after that.

These boots go with pretty much anything. I wear a slimmer tighter fitting jean and these boots look great. They take a while to break in but once the leather is nice and broken in, these boots are awesome. These are my 2nd pair of Doc Martens and I would buy a 3rd pair when the time comes. I prefer the 1490 over the 1460 any day.

Dr. Martens are the best; I've had many pairs throughout the years . Once you get them broken in, you won't want to wear anything else.

For some reasons I find made in Asia products are more comfortable than the made in England ones. This one is no exception. It is true that the leather quality is little better for made in England, but I find it unreasonable to pay almost double for that. Especially, I think 1490 is the best of smooth leather products made in Asia. It may take a few days to break in, and after my feeling was like I was wearing a canvas made boot and at the same time giving me adequate ankle support. Th only thing I am willing to watch how long they last. I am sure many of you will disagree with me since I am giving more credit to the made in Asia ones, but I am sure there are lots of products in the market those would cost you as much as these and won't even have half the lives these would have. In one line, Zappos is simply awesome. If you ever want to have the experience of shopping from a mall from the comfort from your home, Zappos is the place I would recommend.

Awesome classic boot. Super comfortable right from the start. I wear them every day and couldn't be happier. I ordered them one night and the very next morning they were delivered. I love Zappos!
