I wish I could give these shoes more than 5 stars. I just received my pair of Traverse and took them out for try and they were amazing out of the box! I've never worn such comfortable and more importantly such well fitting shores! I'm in love.
Last month I came off a 13 day hike on the Camino de Santiago in different pair of shoes and my feet were a mess. I so wish I had the Traverses on that hike. I'm tempted to buy another pair to have when I wear these ones out.
Thanks Topo for an amazing shoe, and please don't stop making this model.

This is a great hiking shoe and I am opting for the wider version as my feet are very wide across the front of my foot.
I tried the wide version and they are great for me for hiking.

Like all Topo shoes, the Traverse has noticeable room up front for your toes. You will like that. The cushioning also feels decent.
My plan was to use the Traverse for hiking, fast hiking, some trail running, and rugged hiking on rocky conditions and some scrambling. I have worn other Topo shoes and was hoping that these would have better back half and rear stability. They did not. In fact, they seem quite unstable and narrow in the rear.
Granted, I only wore these around the house for some time, but it was clear that they would not keep me stable on rocky condition or very uneven trails. Like other Topo shoes, I love much about them, but would really love if they took rear stability seriously.
I use the Mountain Racers, Pantoms, and sparingly, the Ultranventures(basically a walking shoe). Oddly, the Phantoms, which are designed for road use, have the best heal stability.

My feet are wide across the toes with narrow heels making for a difficult fit, but Topo shoes manage to make it work! I have used these new Traverse shoes on several rocky hikes in the Sierra Mountains, and they are rigid enough but with still enough cushioning to make for a comfortable and secure experience. Compared to my Ultraventure Topos, they have a more robust tread that I expect to last a longer period but are still nearly as comfortable standing around as in my Ultraventure shoes.

Heard great things about these shoes, so decided to give them a try. Overall not impressed. Only 5 months after buying them and with moderate use, the tread is already worn down, and the heel pocket is blown out. And even before that, they did not preform well in wet conditions, high milage hiking days or on steep scrambling sections. On the upside, the shoes are very roomy, nice for those needing a wide toe box, and the rock plate is very essential and nice.

Principally for backpacking. Loved the terraventures. But they were not as durable. Still phenomenal. These have improved cushioning under the ball of the feet. Rockplate works extremely well against rocks and roots. Some bites on soft dirt. I like them. Obviously the t I e box is what everyone will comment on. So being that and the above, i like the loop on the heel making it easier to put them on, i like the weight and the improved toe cap and rand. Lastly a wide fits better

I am a retired soldier with foot, knee and back problems. All of the Topo trail and road shoes have been great for me, including traverse..
I wear them daily in mixed terrain and love the durability and fit.
Since they're doing a #sweepstakes and asked for a review after my last purchase, there it is #sweeepstakes.

I added hiking to my fitness routine earlier this year to lose weight and get in shape. I was using a hiking shoe from one of the major brands, but was getting 'hiking toe' and some small blisters. Did a lot of online research on Topo and became interested in the wider toebox with the regular width heel and mid-foot. For me, this shoe lives up to the reviews and the manufacturer's statements! I am extending my mileage and increasing my pace since I changed to the Topo Traverse. Feet feel great after each hike.

I've been wearing these on weekend hikes for about 5 months. I'm very pleased with the fit and performance but there is some unusal wear occuring. The shoes are shredding at a flex point which is mainly cosmetic at this point. Hope it doesn't get much worse.

Topo quality has plummeted over the years. I went through about 14 pairs of the Terraventure 2. This was the best shoe ever made. While you could notice the midsole giving out around 300 miles, pushing it to 400 miles was no big deal.
I've owned two pairs of the Traverse. I managed to get 400 miles out of my first pair (but they gave out by 200). My second pair I've thrown in the bin after only 150 miles. Didn't even get one mile per dollar on these things.
For now, I'm back in the Terraventure 4 (which I wasn't crazy about), but if this zip foam trend continues, I may have to abandon Topo as a brand entirely. (I've noticed Topo's own website no longer seems to advertise zip foam as a feature.)

The Traverse is a great hiking shoe. I appreciate the relatively low heel-toe drop, wide toebox and midfoot stability. The shoes performed well in some recent hikes up rocky terrain in the Adirondacks. (Thank you, rockplates.) The Traverses are probably overkill for my daily walks, which are mostly on pavement. For those, I prefer the Topo MT-4, which is sadly no longer produced.

The shoe is fantastic in terms of comfort, foot protection and lives up to its reputation of being a hybrid trail/hiking shoe, having used them for both. Very unfortunately after less than 340km in them, the upper mesh of the toe box is already showing excessive signs of wear and two holes are forming. At a price tag of 175 and with the remainder of the shoe : sole, heel, etc in close to perfect condition, it is very disappointing. I hope the next version is more durable !

I have been trail running and hiking in Topo's for several years now. I wore the Traverse on a 250 KM trek across the Atacama Desert in Chile. The shoes provided good support and comfort over a variety of tough desert terrain.
No issues with shoe performance. Recommend these shoes for long runs and hikes over rough terrain.

The fit and feel of these shoes is superb - comfortable out the box, happily wore them for a 25km day hike without issue. This is my third pair, so I've got to know them fairly well, getting in the region of 3-400km per pair. My only complaint is that the heel material isn't tough enough - it's the first thing to go every time, an issue I've never had with other Topo shoes, with holes starting to appear at 200km, and unless patched with tape they become unwearable. Love the shoe but please fix the heel in the next generation!

As a backpacker, thru hiker I wanted to love this shoe. I'm in the process of switching to Topos from Altra. I ordered this model in wide along with the Pursuit and Ultraventure4 in wide. This is a well built shoe in all aspects. The width was a good fit for my EE forefoot.. The only issue was my foot pronation was worsened by this shoe. It felt like the sole was slanting inward which exasperated my problem, I assume a person who tends to supinate or you have a neutral step this shoe will be fine. I returned the Traverse and kept the other two models I tried. Topo shoes are amazing you just need to figure out which one works for you. I appreciate the trial period.

Nice design and some cushion compared to other hikers. It fit me a bit snug in the mid and I retunred for the wide which was better. Just completed 75 mile week long trip and they performed.

I have several pairs of shoes from various brands. I was looking to find the best shoe for my PCT trip planned for next year. I keep coming back to the Traverse. My feet feel amazing after 20+ miles. The toe box is the perfect size. My only complaint is the lack of color selection. I hope we will have more to choose from soon.

These shoes enabled me to section hike the AT. Always felt great! So much better than previous hikers. Even wet trail was no problem. Grip was great and water went in and out. No soggy feet,

I bought the shoes to walk 1200km on the Camino Frances (de Santiago) and the Camino Portuguese in consecutive walks in 2025. They felt secure, great grip and the roomy space around my toes resulted in zero blisters!!

These are much better hiking shoes that the ultraverse i used previously. They have better heel cushion, a stronger base, and stiffer sides. They don't breathe quite as well but its not a huge deal.

Almost new when I flew to France to walk the Camino de Santiago. No blisters, no trouble of any kind, very comfortable all the way. I never slipped in these shoes, and a lot of people did. The soles had great grip, obviously and the large gaps between the lugs didn't get clogged. My feet didn't slip forward on downhills, I think the insole prevented that. I think I could do another big Camino in this same pair. They dried quickly, walking in them wet was never a problem.

Used for work and walking in the outdoors, the rock plate is critical for the rugged, pointy rocks we have here in the central mountains of New Mexico.
Trailventure, both waterproof and standard, are the other choices because of the rock plate. The new gray Traverse is better for more formal attire, though the green is OK for me.
So far, the first pair of Traverse is still going strong for around the homestead and dog walks into the forest. I would say they are over a year old.
