Shoes are good but the soles are extremely stiff and little arch support. Definitely can be improved upon.

FEELS BUILT FOR SPEED BUT NOT STABILITY WHICH IS IMPORTANT ON TRAILS. SHOE LACES DO NOT STAY TIED AND MUST BE DOUBLE-KNOTTED COLORS ARE GREAT

The Speedgoat didn't provide enough stability for me. It also seemed like it had a shorter tongue which in turn made it more difficult to put on. I have returned them and will be getting another pair like I have.

I loved my speedgoat 5s and thought the 6s would be just as great. I found these much stiffer than the 6s in the sole and the sewn in tongue doesn't allow for much flexibility to get a comfortable tight/looseness. I had major pain on my first metatarsal that lingered after my runs. When I switched back to my worn out 5s, no pain at all.

The width is good, but my forefoot gets painful like there isn't enough sole on it. The arch is good. I use them for hiking/walking and treadmill.

I so like the fit of mafata speedboat 4 better!! The 6 is wider on the outside of the shoes. Though I do admit the tread on the 6 is better. I tried to buy the 4 but can't find any in my size women's 10. So if you have any in the back storeroom I'd be interested in paying a pair ?

Straight to the point. Bought these shoes for our twelve year old son. Wanted another pair of hiking tennis shoes for summer. Unfortunately, within two weeks, the siding material starts to peel away. Mesh around two box forming small holes. As parents, we understand kids are hard on stuff. However, for the price tag of a nice trail hiking shoe, I was hoping it would be different. Instead, watching your money end up in shreds. Since I've hiked in HOKA shoes through two Oregon sections of the PCT, plus hiked & archery hunted in them, they did great. My expectation was too high.

I love love love my Speedgoat 5 shoes very much for their flexibility, cushioning, and traction; and I have run them ragged on the trails. I was excited to try the Speedgoat 6 to replace my well-used 5's, but the 6's are so much stiffer and feel so much harder underfoot that I cannot bear to run in them. Toe box feels a bit too narrow also. I really value a FLEXIBLE, cushioned trail running shoe, and Speedgoat 6 is not it, I am sad to say. Returning them.

Can't even believe this is a Speedgoat shoe! My husband and I loved the 4 version, but were extremely disappointed with the 5 -- it was much narrower, much stiffer, less cushioned and didn't have the performance feel at all. Thought I'd try this 6, since it is on a great sale price, but it's pretty awful. The width is better than the 5, but that's where it ends. The whole shoe is unbendable, just a stiff board. The cushion, if you call it that, is very firm feeling underfoot and not at all like a true Hoka. The inside isn't comfortable, either, my feet hurt on the bottoms after barely 5 minutes of house-walking in them. These just are nothing like the original Speedgoat and its intentions.
I'd also recommend:
Topo, New Balance

I never leave reviews, but the speedgoat 6's are so absolutely terrible. I loved the speedgoat 5 so much. It was cushiony and stable, so I ordered the same size (5.5 Wide) in the 6's. The speedgoat 6's are so narrow and different from previous sizes that it actually makes my feet hurt and ache while running. Even the wide size is way too narrow. I can't even send them back because it's been over 30 days but this makes me never want to buy them again. I have a useless shoe that I paid way too much for.

I tried 2 sizes of this shoe - 8 and 8.5. The 8 was too tight and short and the 8.5 was waaaaaay too loose - especially in the heel. There's no way to lock this shoe down for me. I know a lot of other people don't like the tongue on this shoe - I actually like it, but it's too short. The V should come up closer to your ankle. I'm about to give up on Hokas unfortunately.

The 6 tongue is too short and toe box is narrow. I have worn a 10W since with the Speedgoats for the last 5 years. This is the first time my feet get torn up. If they recreated the 5s with the loop in the back to slip on easier, we'd be back in business. Hurry up and bring on the 7s AKA 5s again.

I backpacked in these and roughly averaged 11-12 miles a day over 4 days. My Speedgoat 5's are worn out so I was hoping for the same fit from the new 6. The fit was just okay but I didn't feel the cushion and overall good support as the 5. They were more "hard" than "soft" in the way they made my feet feel. As a matter of fact my right heel suffered my first ever intense blister and I relaced and relaced several times. So bummed and now the blister healing begins. I am returning them on Monday.

Tis review is specifically for the Speedgoat 5 (which I cannot review since the 5 (five) is discontinued), which I purchased in June 2024. I had never worn the shoes until earlier this month (Sept 2025) when I went on a hiking trip in Banff and Yoho, Canada. I hiked an average of 15~20 miles per day, for seven days, mainly on trails. After the week I noticed that the soles of the Speedgoat is peeling off at the heal (significantly). I contacted Hoka Warranty service. However, since the Speedgoats were outside the warranty period by 3 months, Hoka DENIED my Warranty claim. What I find more disappointing is that I am a member of the Hoka Membership program which initially provided 2 (TWO) years of warranty on any Hoka's purchased through hoka.com. I loved my Hoka Speedgoat -- is was one of the few shoes that provided me with blister free hiking. But the heel peeling off is a huge disappointment. Now I am questioning the purchase of another pair.

Do not buy Purchased in April2025 Top of shoe in toe area is shredded and torn Could not return so went the warranty route Original shoes returned to me stating the one year warranty had expired - not true. Called and was told there is no manufacturer defects - warranty denied. So - HOKA quality of materials has decreased significantly since I purchased my first pair several years ago. As a HOKA customer I am disappointed.

The new version of Speedgoat is not even slightly related to previous versions. Speedgoat 6 has less cushioning and the sole is really wide. This is good for stability but the shoes will feel less nimble on narrow single tracks, increasing the risk to take a fall, which I have done twice with these shoes. They have caught rocks and roots on the side of the trail. It feels like running on small cutting boards. The size is also different from previous models. I have always used size 7 Hoka shoes, but size 7 in Speedgoat 6 is too small. I bought another pair in 7.5 but this size feels too wide. I wear other Hoka models too and my overall experience over the last few years is that Hoka shoes are a tiny bit shorter now and they wear out really fast. My recommendation to Hoka is to not change what works and focus on high quality materials. I am a runner but would recommend Speedgoat 6 for hiking only.

I have been an avid Hoka wearer of the Speedgoats for years. I turned to them after an injury caused by shoes that were too stiff. I bought this version after my other ones wore out, expecting a nice cushioned shoe that would make me feel like I could fly, as the other ones have. Come to find out, these have been completely changed. The tongue is too short and they are much firmer that the previous versions. Hoka will not work with me to remedy this situation and I don't get why they would change something that so many people have loved. Come on, Hoka, do better!

Sides are too high and stiff. Only wore this on one hike. Unless I'm on flat ground, each step digs into one or the other side of my ankles. Since these are trail runners, you shouldn't need to stick to flat ground to be able to wear these shoes without pain!

I bought the Speedgoat 5 last year. I bought them because they had the vibram sole. Wore for approx. 5 months, a few times a week, but not constantly. Primarily on dirt paths and around the neighborhood walking the dog and light hikes.. Less than 100k on them. Put them away for the winter in October not noticing the tread wear. This spring I noticed the lugs on the tread were completely worn flat in spots. Upper was in perfect condition. Since it was still within a year, I did a warranty claim. They had me send them in for review.. I find this process bizarre since I took detailed and good quality pictures. After their review, they determined they didn't qualify and were sending them back to me. They sent to I correct address and were returned to sender. When this happens the shoes go to a warehouse where they are destroyed, and customer service has no way of getting them back. Because this was their mistake, they gave me a full refund to my credit card. This was a time- consuming laborious process and it's probably to discourage warranty claims. This being says I had good luck with a previous purchase that lasted for years- Torrent model not Speedgoat. I have moved into another brand. I will think twice before buying Hoka again.

this was my 4th pair of speedboats, but the first version 6. hard on the feet, here I am the next morn with still some bilateral outer foot numbness (not something I've ever had). no comfort to be had in these shoes. and unfortunately, didn't buy from REI and can't return. Really maddening to have spent the money, on a previously reliable trail running shoe, and to have trashed feet and be out that amount of $$.

I had been a loyal speedgoat 5 lover for 4 rounds, but switched to the 6 when I was noticing that the upper was falling apart quickly. The speedgoat 6's were stiff out of the box which seemed like a good sign but even after 290 miles in them they haven't broken in to the point where they are comfortable. I really tried to like these but going to need to switch to something else!

After falling in love with your Speedgoat 5 mid trail shoes, I was excited to order the low trail runners, but unfortunately, the Speedgoat 5s are sold out. Even though the reviews for Speedgoat 6 were concerning, I was hoping the other reviewers were being too harsh. Unfortunately, they were not. The Speedgoat 6 does not fit the same comfortably way and something in the arch support is throwing my foot completely off. I was even willing to overlook the awful colors of these in order to get a comfortable hiking shoe, but the Speedgoat 6 strikes out on both comfort and appearance. Please bring back the Speedgoat 5!!
