These hiking shoes are fantastic! They feel true to size, and have amazing cushion. I would definitely recommend these if you're looking for a comfortable hiking shoe.

I recently got to try out a pair of Altra Lone Peak 8 trail running shoes, and I couldn't be happier with these bad boys. These shoes are an absolute game-changer for my outdoor adventures. The grip on various terrains is exceptional, providing me with the confidence to tackle any trail, whether it's muddy, rocky, or steep. The lightweight design feels like a second skin on my feet, allowing for effortless movement and agility. Plus, the durability is top-notch; these shoes have held up through countless runs without showing any signs of wear and tear. Their wide toe box and zero drop makes them one of the most comfortable running shoes I've owned. Overall, I highly recommend these trail running shoes to anyone looking for comfort, performance, and reliability on the trails. They've definitely earned their spot as my go-to footwear for outdoor excursions!

I switched to Altra Lone Peak series 2 years ago and I love what they offer from a technical perspective for trail and ultra running. I'm somewhat agnostic of the color scheme (low on the priority list from a functionality perspective). Version 6 has been my go-to trail and ultra shoe. I was not a big fan of the additional padding on the heel collar on version 7 (but obviously a very small complaint). I just bought version 8 and here are my initial thoughts on the shoe (since I've only had a few runs in them):
Fit: overall great for my foot. There is a good heel lock, comfortable midfoot, and ample spacing in the toe box. Lengthwise the shoe seems similar to version 6 and 7. The width seems a little more narrow but only slightly.
Comfort: These work straight out of the box. The cushioning seems a little more sturdy than version 6 but is incredibly responsive and gives you a great trail feel. It's exactly what you would expect from a 0 drop shoe.
Traction: The traction seems as reliable as version 6 and 7 but I've only tested it in muddy conditions. I ran version 6 and 7 through all different types of conditions and terrains and they never failed me.
Durability: It's too early to tell but if they're anything like version 6 then I'll be happy. I used 1 pir of version 6 for two 100 milers (+training) and they held up incredibly well.
Overall: Great zero drop trail shoe for gnarly events or short training sprints. I'll definitely be using this pair in my upcoming 100 miler in the spring.

I was very surprised with these shoes. I wish I had these on my trip to the theme park because the level of comfort I got from wearing these all day in comparison to my other walking shoes is insane.

Got the wide shoe and the toe box greatly surprised me with how adequate it was, it had a full toe box with plenty of room for the toes

Altra Lone Peak 8
Dual-purpose pairs of shoes serve as hiking boots and are as light and flexible as running shoes! I have never owned a pair, this comfortable and stylish as these!
I took these shoes out for a light hike and loved how breathable and light these shoes are on my feet. The front of the shoe is curved to allow for the big toe to either dig in the Earth or grip while scaling a mountain or rock climbing wall. The inside of the shoe has almost a parallel profile to keep flush on extreme climbs with maximum grip.
Overall, a perfect pair of shoes for all your hiking, rock climbing and running needs! 5 stars!

These shoes are great to play golf in. Wide toe, good arch support and great grip. They are less expensive and their design is better than any golf shoe on the market. Love the funky colors.

Note, I got these for free in exchange for writing the review.
I switched to barefoot/minimal shoes a little while ago. Zero-drop shoes with a roomy toe box are essential for me. My everyday sidewalk shoe is a simple Whitin.
The trails by me often turn into gravel. Rocks and gravel become painful with the paper thin soles like my walking Whitins. Moreover, given that my trails are in a fairly damp climate, I need more grip. Running on damp trails in my Whitins is like running on ice. That said, I haven't tried their trail running shoe, but I'm interested.
I recently bought some Tyr weightlifting shoes which claimed to have a large toe box. Suffice to say that they're incredibly cramped and I'm super disappointed with them because of that. The Lone Peak 8 toe box is actually wide and roomy. I was so glad to have the grip and strength of a traditional running shoe, but not subject my toes to hours of suffocation.
I got the tan colored shoes and they look pretty good. If you wear beige hiking pants, then these add a nice soft blue accent to them.

I love these shoes and plan on buying another pair in a different color. They were sent to me for free to write a review, and I love these shoes. I've used them for hiking, walking around the neighborhood, and golfing. Its really a great shoe for everything, and I've recommended them to my golf/hike buddies. I prefer a wide toe box shoe and these fit so well. There is plenty of room in the toe box. The shoes look a little big but that is what I expect from wider shoe. They aren't heavy. Plenty of grip/tread. I've traveled about 30 miles in these shoes and I don't see any wear. So comfortable. I'm very happy with these!

I went on several hikes since I got these shoes. And long story short, I am more than pleased with them. The shape of these shoes allows your feet to flex and move mor naturally and they are very comfortable. I would recommend any outdoors enthusiasts ti have at least one pair of them!

I love wearing them on short hikes and riding bikes. They are great around water. They dry super fast if you get them soaked. They have great grip and extremely comfortable. I wear these shoes more than any other. They hold up well. I wear the rubber off them wearing them so much. Can you please make wide sizes in at least one of the brighter colors. I wanted to get some Lone Peak 's, but I'm disappointed in the color selection.

I like to mix this shoe in my training with the Timp and Mont Blanc. Great for mixed weather conditions, snow days and the like. Tried and true.

Please stop leaving negative reviews because you don't like the color. That doesn't make it a bad product. Reviews are for quality, comfort/fit, etc Not because you don't like olive green. I almost skipped over these, until I read the reviews.

I really appreciate the resiliant midsole foam and ground feel of these shoes. The upper seems more durable than previous iterations but it still drains and breathes well enough for a variety of conditions.

Rugged and tough, but not overbuiltstill a performance shoe that anyone can use. Reliable for hiking, easy running, fast running, and everything in-between. Well done, Altra.

If you've worn lone peaks 7s, this shoe will feel very familiar. Slight changes to the upper for added durability, and the same chevon pattern on the out sole as the previous version. Same comfortable toe shaped for box and similar stack height that's pretty ideal for long hikes or trail runs. Another classic from Altra!

I've been wearing lone peaks since the beginning, mainly because they are the only real trail runner made in a size 16. I know everyone loves saying "Altras aren't what they used to be" and I totally disagree. These shoes are great. Other than getting a little narrower for a few versions, i really don't notice a difference from one version to the next. These seem to be back to the original toe box. And for all the people complaining about the colors, I would suggest to go run trails when it is snowing and raining and muddy and when it's hot and dry and dusty and your shoes will get really dirty and no one will see the colors! Personally, the colors are way down on the list of why I purchase a shoe

The shape is back to the 6's! The 7's didn't fit me. The colorways have gotten worse each year since the 4.5's. I wear these daily to teach. Please offer some basic colors like the black/grey from 4.5's.

I've been using the Lone Peak shoe ever since the third version, and I'll keep coming back. I love the lightness and the touch/feel they give me on the trail. I tend to roll my ankles a lot due to having disproportionately small feet, and the extra ground feel I have while wearing these shoes allows me to know where to place my foot before putting all my weight on it and avoid injury. My only critique is that the insole material is not overly comfortable for running downhill, as it is on the thin side and collapses easily. I see it as a tradeoff for having extra ground feel on the trail.
