The Terraventure 4 is a great shoe with a wide toe box and a good Vibram sole. It is quite light weight and comfortable.
The shoe is great, but I ordered two sizes and returned the larger one. The free return was nice, but have not received the credit for the return after 4 weeks.

These shoes fulfil my walking and hiking needs. I want a shoe with WIDE toe box, low stack and low drop, tough enough to withstand a beating.
GOOD: Vibram soles, wide toe box, pretty low stack, low drop, secure fit, tough construction, rock plate.
BAD: There's an internal plastic strengthening band between the front laces and the sides of the shoe. On the inside, this cuts into the foot when running, making them uncomfortable after longer runs. Remove this and the shoes will be perfect.

Overall, this is a great shoe. This is my first pair of Terraventures, but I have also owned the Ultraventure 1 and 3, along with some road shoes. This feels like a great trail shoe for distances up to 50k. My first run in these was a 14 miler with more than 1500 feet of climb and descent. The upper and outer were both excellent. They handled technical terrain without any issues. I did have to stop to tighten them down a bit because my foot was slipping, but tightening the laces helped. Note that I normally wear a size 10.5 in most brands, and a 10 wide in some other brands. The Terraventure in a normal-width 10 had more than enough room, so people with narrow feet might have issues getting a secure fit in these. My only gripe is that the midsole is a bit firm. I think that is ok given that this shoe is meant for more technical terrain, but this would not be my first choice for ultra distances. But that is why I also have the Ultraventure!

Great trail running and hiking. Size is perfect I'm in between in a lot of brands and this 12.5 fits great and doesn't look clowny. Been running zero drop so I'm adjusting to the minimal drop but it's not bad. Overall a great shoe compared to the lone peak. Would love this shoe with a little more cushiony midsole and reduce the drop another millimeter or two. I'll be picking up another pair. Love the two color options but more options would be nice. Thanks topo!

I mainly use these for for distance walking and light hiking. The toe box is roomy and the mid foot and heel are more snug than most "wide" shoes, which is exactly what I was looking for, as I have a wide forefoot and normal to narrow heels with a moderate to high instep (super hard to find shoes). These work well and seem to breathe better than many others of this genre. The only issue I have found is they are a little on the slick side on polished concrete and marble floors (think stores and businesses). I only have about 90 +/- miles on them, but they appear to be durable and are wearing well, I can't see any degradation of the sole yet. Overall I am happy with this shoe and will try other shoes from this manufacturer.

The width from heal through arch is a little narrower then expected. Toe width is perfect. I wore the Topo Ultraventure for hiking desert mountain trails near Phoenix AZ. That shoe was a much better fit, and the materials provided better comfort than the Terraventure. Over the past few weeks of wear the Terraventure is still tight in the arch area, but has improved. The materials breathe well when it is not hot outside. They do not breathe well when it gets 80F+ degrees. The vibrant sole is best suited to my hikes.

So far I have about 70 miles on the Terraventure 4s, my first of this model. I really don't have any major complaints as they do all the things I love about Topo trail shoes (wide toe box, excellent traction, comfortable) but I really just don't get them. I bought these as a technical terrain racer for distances up to 50 miles but the zip foam and rock plate seem to offer little to no protection. Normally, a ton of ground feel is something I actively seek out for training but thats also what the minimalist, 0 drop Runventure 4 is for. Also the upper seems like it will last WAY longer than the midsole will which adds to my confusion for where this product fits in not only on my shoe rack but also for Topo's line up. In general, I'd recommend both the Runventure 4 or Pursuit (or both?) over this product.

Probably a good shoe for others but the toe box is not wide enough for me #sweepstakes

I bought these before a recent trip to the UK, Ireland and Turkey. I hadn't worn them before the trip and they felt great. Size 13 Wide. I always bring a spare set of shoes due to my shoe size making it hard to find shoes locally. I hikes Snowdon Mt. in Wales with them and they worked great. We also did a lot of walking on cobble stone streets, etc. I started noticing the soles squeeked and were very sticky on tile floors. I noticed the soles were wearing out extremely fast. I switched shoes.

Really like the look and feel of shoes. Roomy toebox is fantastic! Shoes are lightweight and breathable. However, I have purchased and trialed 2 sets of this shoe back to back because the right heel box and immediate arch support feel uneven on the right shoe. Even after adjusting the inserts multiple ways, my right heel feels like it rides up the inside edge of the shoe and the arch is too much near the heel. It may be my foot and not the shoe, but this is only shoe I've had issues with.

I've been wearing the Terraventures for quite a few years through different versions. They are my goto shoe because of their fit. I use them for hiking and lots of walks. I also own the waterproof version as well.
My biggest complaint with this version is that the mesh near the toes can easily tear. In fact, the last 3 pairs I've owned all have holes by the toes. I hope Topo is listening and can provide better reinforcement in the toe box area so the mesh is not as prone to rips, tears and holes. If they can address this issue, I'd easily give these 5 stars.

Still my favorite shoe by far but version 3 was better. These are very comfortable right out of the box. I use this shoe for everything in the mountains. Super grippy and quick to dry. Unfortunately the midsole on the heel now bulges out like every other shoe on the market and it gets caught on rocks and roots. I find myself tripping way too frequently in this shoe compared to my old ones. Take a look at the photo I uploaded to compare V3 to V4. I'm also unfortunately having some delamination on the toe cap after the first 20 miles. I'll be trying a different model for my next pair.

Except for the toe box, the Terraventure 4 was quite narrow. Also, the arch support was positioned too rearward for me. It started in the arch and didn't extend far enough toward the big toe joint. I've never experienced this in a shoe.

Hiking and walking. Please go back to the original toe box size. It's really hard to get the shoe tight enough to keep foot secure on irregular terrain. The original, 2 and 3 terraventure models were some of the best trail shoes ever made. The terraventure 2 was my favorite all time trail shoe.

I've had at least 10 pairs of topos over the years: trail, road, and hiking boots. I loved the Terraventure 3's and they were my fav Topo shoe ever. The 4 has been disappointing, and I don't want to wear them. They feel way too wide, to the point where my (wide) feet slip side to side. Even if I cinch the laces down tight, the foot still moves around in an unsettling way. On technical terrain, I'd be afraid to use these. They feel less cushioned and comfy. The sole doesn't seem to flex and bend. When I walk, I can hear them land flat.
I'd also recommend:

Had two pairs of Terraventure 3's in the blue and people old stop me so often to say what great looking shoes they were. I would always add...these are the most comfortable shoes I've ever had, don't think I'll ever wear anything else. Unfortunately the 4's I purchased have a very clunky/large sole in the rear and the raised "strapping" that looked so cool on the sides has been replaced with something that looks like cheap plastic. No one has stopped me to comment on these new 4's so there's no opportunity for me to advertise your product. Please reproduce the 3's with the little bit of extra room in the front like you have done...that was the only good change I noticed. Thanks.

I loved the previous versions of this shoe. I used them for off trail hiking on several backpacking trips. Unfortunately I cannot wear the current version due to change in fit. They are now to loose in the forefoot and too tight in midfoot. The pinch my feet at the base of my 5th metatarsal and I cannot wear them.

I'm so disappointed in these shoes, my fault for not being proactive and returning when I could. The toe box is perfect but my heels slip and feel as if they are hanging off the edge of the shoe. Would also like to add I can feel every pebble and rock on the trail so there is no way this shoe has a rock plate like it says. Really disappointed as they look great and again, the toe box is perfect but the issues I mentioned make this and topo a 1 time purchase.

Returned these because Topo has the SAME recurrent problems with their shoes. This was my 3rd try at a different pair of Topos. The problems are as follows:
1) HORRIBLY shallow/open heel cup. The heel cup/portion needs to be at LEAST 2x larger than it is and cover your heel and Achilles better. This is my 3rd pair of Topos that felt like clogs or slippers. Your heel simply pulls out as you walk because there is not enough material around the heel/ankle. These need ankle support. Need to be mid/high-topped. ALL Topo shoes need to be. I had this issue with the Phantom and one other model--- EVERY single Topo shoe I've tried. To be fair-- Altra is the same. But how do these guys not get it. Vivo, Nike, Vibram, Freet... all these other shoe makers get it. Why not you?
2) The SEAM over the toes STILL (after over 6yrs of product iterations) rubs on and irritates the tops of your toes. Every other brand of shoe is making this part of the shoe seamless, except for Topo who still sew it with a cheap, abrasive, irritating seam right across where your foot will bend hundreds of times a day. Infuriating. Untenable. FIX YOUR SHOES, Topo! This isn't hard.

I do many day hikes but primarily use the Terraventure for long trails. Previous versions have lasted up to 600 miles on the CDT, CT and AT. The current 4 breaks down after about 130 miles where you begin to feel every rock even though there is a rock plate. You can see the midsole expand and flatten out which catches on rocks, roots, etc. as well. Have reverted back to my old version 3 even though it has 600+ miles, still provides much more support than the 4. The pictures show the 3 (green, 600+ miles) and 4 (gray 140 miles), look at the midsole on all the pics, you can see it bulging out providing no support on the 4 while the 3 is still intact after much greater distances.
It seems Topo has fallen into the Altra trap of needing to change (upgrade) every 2 years to be the latest and greatest. This is fine, but when you have something that works great, like the 3, go with it. Look at the Merrill Moab longevity. Disappointed in the current model and hope there will be improvements down the road.

The size, fit, and arch support are good. Maybe not as good as previous Topo Adventure shoes I've worn. I'm very disappointed in how both the inner and outer soles have shown significant wear during 4 months of use. I walk 5-6 miles per day over mostly paved surfaces. There is no reason that the vibram sole should be this worn out. I can understand the insoles wearing out. But it isn't working replacement since the shoes needs replacement.
Other reviews discussed same issues. I do not recommend Topo Adventure shoes.
Not sure if Zappos will replace them, but I'm going to inquire.
