I opted to not take these out of the living room. Like the offset, Like the outsole, The midsole is cushioned firm, not a super foam, but a stable good trail type foam.. Fore foot doesn't flex a whole lot, and the length of the shoe doesn't twist much. It's a relatively inflexible midsole For foot room gets me in there and I feel the sides of my toes along the mesh aspect. Not sure how that would last long term, although there is a shoe perimeter thin overlay coming up from the midsole about a cm or so tall. Took laces to top eyelet and tongue extended above lacing. Heel security felt dialed (tested with forward calf leaning). What didn't feel dialed was midfoot security. I typically lace up, stand up, and then roll my feet outwardly to see how the shoe holds onto my feet..... with this agility peak 5 (with fairly snug lacing to top eyelet), my feet wanted to start rotating within the shoe. Was not a secure hold/ lockdown. Also, for me, the heel stack height and heel contact with ground width ratio were a bit off. As these heel sack heights cruise beyond 32mm or so, that heel foam needs to spread out a bit more. These average heel width contact to ground ratios result in lame off chamber running/ technical wiggly trail running. The shoe gets easily pushed beyond its limits and cant stay with actual foot position. I'm sure these shoes are fine for mellow cruise trails.
I'd also recommend:
Saucony, New Balance, Hoka

The Merrell Agility Peak 5 certainly lived up to my hopes for it. I needed more cushioning especially in the heel area for pounding down long mountain descents and this shoe has delivered . The outsole has great grip on smooth rock and mud and the mesh upper breathes well while keeping out dirt and dust. It is built on a well thought out last, ensuring that your toes don't hit the end of the shoe on steep downhills .

Toe box is extremely narrow compared to most other shoes I have worn comfortably (North Face, Salomon, Hoka). Also, length is about a half size small. Looks to be decently built. Very low rise on this shoe. Sent back.

fabric on is too thin and not sturdy. Does not go with how sturdy the soles are. Good arch and sturdy sole.

Usual great Merrell fit and comfort along with consistent sizing. One major drawback though is you can't remove the insole, it's glued in place. Tried to carefully remove it but was worried I would damage the shoe or have pieces of the insole still stuck to it so I left it in place. I'll still use them but won't buy again.

Comfortable and grippy. Fits great in the mid foot and toe box but it runs a bit too long. Purchased in my regular size 9.5 and they feel like canoes on my feet. Almost impossible to lock my heel in place. I wonder if that partially has to do with the rock plate making the front end of the shoe less flexible. Tempted to try a pair in half a size down but it would probably be too narrow. Oh well, these will still be great for slower runs on well groomed trails. I don't know how I would feel taking them down any technical descents with them having so much extra length at the toes and a heel cup that doesn't stay put. It might end up becoming a tripping hazard.

Merrell is finally chasing the real hikers with their trail runners. However, real hikers know that a wide toe box is crucial to comfortable hiking. Until a wide show is available, Merrell won't be successful in recapturing the hiking market.

My Agility peak 4's have been a lifesaver- they accommodate my orthotic and helped me get moving again after toe surgery. No other Merrells have worked for me- usually due to ankle discomfort and tight toebox. I really wanted black so was thrilled to see Agility peak 5 in black (ish). But why oh why keep the name and dramatically change the shoe!! The heel now has a very course lining instead of smoothe- almost like a brillo pad so you have to wear thick socks. The toe box is now tighter. and the insole is firmly glued in so you can't put in your own orthotic. So frustrated!

Disappointed in this shoe. I've only walked on concrete and the side of the soles are losing their color. I thought they were trail tanning shoes?

The shoes have started breaking (lace eyelets, multiple points) after only 5 wears and low kms. Poorly constructed upper with poor materials is a big disappointment.

I love Merrell shoes and hiking boots. With that said, I really don't like these. I bought these online when I knew I should've gone to the store. After 2 work outs I've determined that they just don't fit me well. The arches in both feet hurt after just a few minutes. I didn't pay close enough attention to the color. Seafoam green and purple is almost nauseating in person. I understand why they were discounted so much. This is the first pair that I've not liked, but I've also gone to the store and tried on all of the other pairs.

I was excited to try this shoe after reading the reviews and specific information on Merrell's website. Merrell's diagrams appeared to show that the insole was removable. It is not and I will be sending them back. Too bad. The shoe might have worked for me but I didn't want to take a chance that they wouldn't fit with my custom orthotics. Really, Merrell? Is there a reason to glue the insole to the shoe?

Too big, and heel didn't have the correct fit. Didn't even run in them. This is not my first rodeo, so wasn't going to take the chance. Wish they would have worked out as I was looking forward to that outsole. Vibram is the best.

Just bought these a few days ago. They look good but first thing I thought was how thin and cheap the top looks and feels. The sole and bottom are fine but the mesh on top can barely hold itself up!! It also looks like the material has paint that mimicks rubber. The 1st ever merrell shoe I've been disappointed with.

I lve them but they are too tight. too narrow for your standard medium, which I have worn for over 10 yrs now. I also bought a pair 10.5 wide, and they dont fit right either.

I bought these particular shoes for walking, after 360 miles, the soles are completely worn out. At their price point, I would definitely expect more out of them.

Really disappointed in the quality of these trainers, especially with the price, I expected them to last way longer. After one month of use, including a few hikes, the lace loops have started to tear, and the rubber toe is starting to peel away from the shoe, and the beige rubber on the side is flaking away. There's also very fine stitching on the top of the trainer that has opened up. Its a shame because they're really comfy and look great.

I had to return mine due to the fit. Either I wear a wide or these ran small. I love my other merrells
