I read the shoe was great for meniscus issues, keeps your foot square and comfortable padding. I have had this meniscus for five years and went to Hoka that long ago. I was a Brooks guy for about thirty years The shoe has no substantial foam and the H frame mentioned does nothing for me, actually hurts my knee more. My pair last summer was the Clifton 9 and that was a great pair of shoes. I run three mile daily and 10K every Saturday, rest Monday.
Here in Texas, gets in the 90's during the summer, so my shoes only last one summer, but I put on my Clifton 9's and after all last year, they are more comfortable than these Gaviota 5 used less than three weeks. I'm going to exchange them for the Clifton 9's

Beware the shoe design is for overpronation and if you don't have this condition it can cause foot and leg pain. You cannot machine wash these shoes as the heel foam collapses. So disappointed with this purchase. Never had a running shoe that couldn't be machined washed without damaging them. For the very high price it is truly amazing. They don't tell you any of this on the website. Also they call them waterproof, but apparently they are not.
Disappointed,

I get shin splints from time to time when I recover from a long break of running. I got these to try and help with my ankles to stop them from rotating as much, but these shoes actually caused me to develop ankle pain and brought my shin splints back with a vengeance. I really wanted to like these but they just didn't work for me, I wanted to try the bondis and unfortunately I missed the return window.

My podiatrist recommended Hokas for plantar fasciitis, and they certainly are comfortable, my feet are happy about that. My wallet is not so happy, after just two months, the inside heel portion of my shoe developed a tear in the lining that quickly widened. I had to get it reinforced by the local cobbler, my Gaviota 4's developed the same tear and the padding disintegrated leaving the back heel raw, but that happened gradually over a much longer period of time. Now I'm looking at alternative brands

Currently wearing Bondi. Thought the Gaviota would have more cushion and offer more stability. Very disappointed. Shoes gave me a blister on one toe and I feel as if I'm pronating in one of the shoes. Will not order shoes online again.

Gaviota 5 makes me look like I am wearing clown shoes, toe area is so wide. I purchased these in a shop and was measured by an employee so I would get a proper fit, I still slide around some in them. I am really disappointed in these shoes. Ugly and ill fitting

Wore these for a few days. Terribly uncomfortable. Yet, I can't return them because I wore them and threw away the box.

Well I'm sad to report that the Gaviota 5 is SO different than the Gaviotas before it that I had to return them after my husband got me a new pair for my birthday. The toe box is so wide that they don't feel stable like I need them to be. And they look ridiculous compared to the 3s and 4s. I have to wear the most stable shoe because of how high my arches are and I'm extremely disappointed that now I don't know what I will do since I can't find 4s to purchase anywhere. Please bring back the Gaviota 4!!!

I really wanted to love these shoes. My son wore Hokas for cross country training from 2013-2016 and raved about how comfortable and cushioned they were. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I bought this pair of Hoka Gaviota 5 shoes specifically for a trip to Europe. My son promised we would walk around 28,000 steps per day. Sadly, these shoes have a hard insole and my legs and feet had exhaustion and pain at the end of every single day. These were the only shoes I had to walk in, so I skipped some sites that required more walking, and we took advantage of public transportation as much as possible.

They only last about 3 months and I only wear for maybe 3 hours a day. For the price it's unacceptable that they don't last longer than 3 months before falling apart. Don't know if I will ever buy again

Toe box wore out in large toe area after 4 months and about 160 miles of walking on streets / sidewalks, wanted a stability shoe. Great comfortable shoe with roomy toe box, wish it would have longer wear, 4 months is really a short amount of time. . Would not buy again due to premature wear of toe box. Returned under warranty. Never had this issue with other shoes any brand.

The quality on these is so poor that loop on the back began to fray within the first 5 wears. They were never even worn outside. The retailer referred me to the Hoka warranty which requires me to pay for shipping. They advised me that they are required to refer me to Hoka after 30 days. I give the quality an F and the Warranty and F.

I was used to the Arahi's and these were recommended to me by a friend. My foot swam in them and they felt heavy.

Your customer service is absolutely horrible. Not being able to change or correct an order from one night to the next morning when it hasn't been packaged or shipped is unacceptable. The product is good but your policies aren't good

I purchased these shoes because my wife had raved about how great the pair she received for christmas felt. I purchased online and waited for delivery. Unfortunately the package was stolen from my property line (where the delivery guy felt was safe to leave) and trying to get another pair sent, or money back , has turned into a nightmare.

The bottom of this shoe is separating after less than. 20 miles of jogging. I reached out to Hoka and send the shoes back to use their year warratty against manufacturer errors. They requested some documentation which I sent with the shoes and then I paid for shipping back to Hoka. Hoka sends the shoes back saying that it was past the warranty despite it only being 4 months since I purchased the shoes. When I reached out to Hoka again they clairifed that they denied the warranty claim for other issues but didn't know the reason as their wearhouse whoo processes warranty claims doesn't tell them and they have no way of finding out. I am not aware of any other running shoes that only last 20 miles. They did offer 10% since they want "customers to feel valued and I want you to have the best experience possibles"

While the arch support was sufficent, the lateral support was too stiff, forcing me to over pronate. Very uncomfortable. I returned them.

I have 6 or 7 pair of Bondis and love them. My problem is that is the Bondi is the only better grade of shoe you make in a size 16. Please add 16s to the Gaviota 5 style. Thanks.
