The tongue on the shoes is about 1/2" too short. Other than that the shoes are good.

I tried the men's 7.5 as a change-up to my normal neutral Hokas (Bondi 8 wide & Clifton 9 wide). It fit okay at try-on but after 1-2 miles walking, it was rubbing uncomfortably on the bone near the base of the big toe. The Stinson 7 is also stable + plush; it fit better, so I returned these.

I hate leaving a review for this. Wish there was more of a Q&A section. This is not a review of the shoe, just a warning that the photos do not match up with reality for the colorway Nimbus Cloud / Steel Wool.
You'll think it's a much darker gray and silver shoe with black logo and details. In reality it's sooo light in color and what shows as black in the photos is really a light gray. I like them much more in the photos than real life which is disappointing. Took a photo of how it really looks, but the reviews apparently cant support images.
Anyway, I'm sure it's a good quality shoe but I wanted to warn anyone looking at this color.
And for what it's worth, I went with the Bondi 8 as it felt more cushioned to me, but only ever so slightly. And that was just walking indoors in my living room.

The Gaviota has been my most favorite running shoe that I have ever worn. My son recently bought me the Gaviota 5 for my birthday. I was so excited until I put them on and tried to run in them. The H frame has made them too wide that my foot slides from side to side. I thought I had found my shoe now back to the drawing board. I would not recommend this shoe for some with narrow feet. I tried to love them, but I just can't! Bring back the J frame!

They're comfortable for walking but there still isn't enough support for running. It seems that at the end of the exercise the balls of my feet and toes are extremely fatigued. I need more of a stiff base with less give with cushioning. It seems that it was sacrificed to make them light. These shoes would probably be good if I weren't as heavy as I am. As I lose weight they will hopefully get better. My daughter had a pair and thought they were great until she went to a store and got a different style and she loves her new ones.

I walked in these shoes for about 30 miles and find them much to soft for me. With them being so soft, it takes to much effort for me to walk. Also the H frame hurts my inner and outer ankles. I switched to the Bondi SR, they are much better for me.

More expensive than the Clifton and doesn't fit or feel as well. The tongue does not line up with my foot. It's off to the side and can't be straightened to fit right. Also too wide and bulky. The outside material is very nice and much better looking and more durable than on the Clifton but overall disappointed especially because they cost more than the Clifton.

They hurt my feet and scared to get used to it because they are so expensive. Besides, they weren't as tough at I thought they would be, I'd ruin them too fast. So grateful that I could return them! I'm sure they have a great shoe for me, if I had the $

I love Hoka, been wearing Gaviota since the beginning but this model the toe box was way to big felt like clown shoes. Will re purchase if they redesign the toe box.

I really like the basic fit and all the cushioning. With that said the tongue of all things does not set properly, it's annoying. The biggest problem with all HOKA shoes is the poor Vibram selection and sole design. The MegaGrip sounds good but isnnot good on wet surfaces. The problem is compounded when they mix super slippery components into their sole design. Too bad as these are really good shoes, BUT not great.

Need a shoe that's more neutral and less "cushy!" Please advise.

I walk on concrete (street) so far hard to get used to--size (13d} is my normal width that I use with my Nu Balance sneakers but the Hoka ones seem tight in the width, maybe I need inserts that better conform to my foot. If so why would I need to add more cost to already expensive sneakers? Iwear my normal Therlo sweat socks

I love the wider base than the Gaviota 4's. Very comfortable, too! However, the tongue is attached to the inside of the instep only making the tongue slide inwards. It would have been better to attach the tongue on both sides or not at all.

Definitely not a plush as the other pair I bought. And the inside arch rubs my foot even with a insole, so I don't know why that is happening. Just not what I was expecting at all.

I love Hoka! I have been looking for awhile to replace black and white Hokas (Clifton's I think) that were very worn out, so I was looking for color more than style or performance on this one. I have long resisted Gaviota because the pictures online made them look too wide, too long, and too flat in front--they did not appeal to me. Then, voila, the latest version looked okay and it was black and white. I bought it. And I will wear them, but I am not happy with the style. Way wider than I like, or need. So, not a slam of Gaviota, just not my preferred style.

I've been running 25 miles a week in Gav's for 20+ yrs! And yes I'm flatfooted;) The Gav5 is a step down from the Gav3 and Gav4 in my opinion. Something doesn't feel the same in the Gav5, sole has changed somehow, not the same support as the earlier models and the tongue is thin, lost it's thickness!
Honestly, I'm going to buy a pair of the Gav3 or 4, I love both:). I'm a BIG Supporter of Hoka, but they somehow missed the mark on this New Release Gav5 -JSM

I need an extra wide and Gaviota5 is not made in extra wide. In fact they're only 2 shoes in their line that is made in extra wide. Don't you cater to people with wide feet?

The toe box for the Gaviota 5 is just too big for my foot. I feel like I'm swimming in it.

Shoes look good and feel great, but quality control is lacking. Returned shoes and getting a new pair sent to me. Return was easy and seamless with QR code.
