I've been running for decades, and my mileage peaked in my early 50's with a couple of marathons. Subsequently, injuries and a bad accident caused me to give up on running events altogether, and my ambitions mid-60's have been reduced to walk-runs. Specifically, I've been battling piriformis syndrome in one of my hips. I recently saw one of my friends was wearing HOKA's, and decided to try them out. I've been running in Mizuno Wave Inspires for years, so I picked the Gaviota 5 because it's a light stability shoe like the Inspire. After a couple of weeks I've been able to up my running to a distance that used to be the onset of hip pain, which is great! I run on a treadmill in the winter, so I've yet to see how they do running on pavement. Some have complained about the inordinately wide toe box. My feet are somewhat narrow, so while I agree that HOKA should reduce the width a bit in the next rendition of this shoe, this hasn't caused any problems - either because my heel is firmly held or because my forefoot tends to spread to fill the space allotted. We'll see how we do when navigating a curvy running path. One reviewer has called these "clown shoes". Yeah, my size 13's look a bit like boats, but my worst fear - that the sole of one shoe would hit the sole of the other shoe (or my ankle) - hasn't materialized. But in the interest of clowning around, I've composed a song to commemorate the pair of shoes that I hope will keep me running for some years to come. Ode to my HOKA's (To the tune of "Home, Home on the Range") Oh give me some HOKA's ere my joints become broke-a, Where my toes and my metatarsals splay, Where seldom is hurt a discouraging wart, And my thighs won't need Theraworx or Ben-Gay.

I have recurring plantar fasciitis. I had nearly immediate pain resolution with these shoes. I have other Hoka shoes (Arahi) which also provide relief but , for me, this design is superior

My wife has an orthopedic issue with one of her feet that required a complete reconstruction. As such, her foot was rebuilt with pins, rods, and screws and doesn't have the same flexibility as her other foot. Her doctor recommended Hoka sneakers for the proper support and protection once given the green light to get out of the walking boot and once properly sized for a shoe, the Hoka Graviota was the one recommended. Problem for her is that she has to have a women's wide shoe which is limited in colors...if this is the shoe she needs to wear all the time, not matter the outfit, she wanted some different colors. So we did some comparison on sizes and discovered a 8.5 W in women's is the same as a 7.5 D in men's. She is happy as she now can get more colors and the shoes fit just like the other pairs she owns. Happy-happy!

After significant trial and error, Hoka's are the only shoes I will wear. Perfect fit, perfect support, and my feet don't feel worn out at the end of the day. It's great knowing I don't have to guess on my next shoe purchase, I know exactly where to go.

Fit was maybe sliiightly larger than anticipated, but not even a half size. Shoes are so light I thought the box was empty. I use them at the gym (elliptical, treadmill) and they are so very comfortable. Like walking on clouds.

My orthopedist told me about Hoka shoes. He said they may feel a little strange at first, but they will definitely up your game. Well, they did!!!!

HOKA Shoes are my favorite, Gaviota 5 is and excellent sneaker with cushioned sole and wide at the toes. I have a wide feet so ordered a wide size and it is so comfortable that I can wear it all day, standing, walking , running and doing other activities and still it does not make my legs ache of feel tired. Although a little expensive but worth every penny. High recommend for people with wide feet!

I like my Gaviota 4 a lot better for the issue I have with my feet. I had fusion on Big toe and the Gaviota 4 was the best comfort.

As I age, my feet have become wider. After trying several styles of Hoka's, I finally found the Gaviota 5. The toe box is deep and the width is wider than the wides in other styles. I feel better all over now that my feet are always comfortable. What a fabulous shoe.

I bought these for my sister who is a nurse and she raves about how comfortable they are and how they make her shift a lot easier. These shoes are extremely comfortable and I would definitely recommend them for someone who has to be on their feet a lot.

My son is 16 and has wore these for three months with no issues and lots of school activity so they are holding up. I personally have 5's now but only for three weeks, my Gavoita 4's did great for 10 months then internally broke down, but still look good.

The best stable and comfort shoes I have worn in recent years. I tried Bondi before, but they felt too plush with no stability support. But, these shoes are a game changer. My everyday walking and running shoes. I am overpronated but these shoes add extra support to stabilize my stride. Yes, I can feel the difference. Since these shoes, my knees and ankles have felt much better. Big kudos to Hoka and do not change this model. I just cannot go without them.

I’ve come to love the Hoka product. Started with the Bondi 8 which I believe is the best hands down cushion shoe on the market. The new Gaviota 5 is my go to sneaker. The cushioning comparable to Bondi 8 plus stability make the combo perfect. Light weight too.
