First of all, I now have 5 pairs of the Gav 5. My usual size in almost all the shoes I have is 11.5. In Hokas, I always have to order wide (2EE) even though I have medium-width feet, but my feet have always felt cramped in Hoka’s standard width. The Gav 5 has an expanded forefoot similar to Altra or Topo, but when I tried them in an 11.5, they still felt tight, so I bought my first 3 pairs in 11.5 wide. However, with my last 2 pairs, one from Hoka, now one from Zappos, I experimented by going to a 12 standard width, and that has worked perfectly. If you have narrow feet, this may feel like a big shoe, but for those with medium to wide feet, these are fantastic. For me, they are the pinnacle of the Hoka line, tremendous cushioning just shy of a Bondi, but with the stability and balance of an Arahi. I would strongly recommend these to older folk who want a lot of cushioning but need to be better balanced than in thickly cushioned, high-stack height shoes. Also, for those working on very hard surfaces for long periods of time, such as in hospitals, warehouses, etc., they can’t be beat.
I'd also recommend:
Altra, Topo

My fourth different Hoka shoe, replacing Arahi 6. An excellent balance of cushioning (think Bondi) and stability (think Arahi) with a bit more room in the toe box and a bit more stability with the H-frame instead of the J-frame. I used these for walking two big dogs (totaling about 200 pounds) and so far the Gaviota 5 meets my needs. My search for the perfect balance may have just ended.

I have chronic foot issues and use orthotics. I had been using Brooks size 12.5 but they didn't seem to really help my feet feel better. Using the Hoka online tool for recommendations, I purchased the Gaviota 5 in size 12 hoping for the best. After wearing them for about a week, I couldn't be more pleased. So very comfortable and my orthotics fit perfectly. I strongly recommend and plan on buying a second pair myself.

These shoes are very comfortable, very stable and sturdy and plush. They are just what the doctor ordered literally. I broke my neck and was temporarily paralyzed and had to learn how to walk all over again with the subframe in these hocus and the wide base gives me a good foundation to walk on Well worth the price point.

My first pair of HOKAs and I absolutely love them. Hard to believe how comfortable they are. With arthritis in my feet it has been hard to walk any distance and now I have that back.

Most comfortable shoes I've ever had, also absolute support for walking, which I do about 5 miles a day. I have been wearing them for about two weeks and it's been continuous improvement with my sore feet.

This is my fourth-pair of Gaviota 5's - and I LOVE THEM !!! They fit me perfectly, and feel amazing. Hoka keeps pushing out the dates for the Gaviota 6's ... so I continue to buy more-and-more Gaviota 5's !!

I didn't care for the style change on the Bondi 9 so needed to find a similar style and the Gaviota 5 meets all criteria. The fit is perfect. It's even more comfortable than my Bondi 8. I wasn't crazy about the stripes but they are barely noticeable on the Gaviota 5 black and white. I'm a women's 10 but prefer the fit of the men's 8.5.

I have 4 pairs of mens Gaviota 5 and love it. It has the best support for overpronation and has the most plush. I use it mostly for daily use and walking. I do run 2 to 3 miles per week indoor and outdoor. The least part I like is how fast the sole wears out and how the middle foam gets too soft and flat losing it's plushness within a year. I have to get new pair within 6 to 12 months. That's just daily walks and light run. Overall I'm still happy and will continue to buy Gaviota 5 until Hoka comes up with a more durable longer lasting sole and inner foam.

This is my third pair of shoes from Hoka. First two pair were sporty style but I needed another pair for just walking around town in Europe. Having lived and travelled in Europe I'm aware that Europeans dress a little differently. I didn't want my footwear to look like I was headed out for a run or workout.
These shoes were available in Black so they will go with anything. Plus they are Hoka comfortable and I can wear them all day. I love them!

Tried these because they were on sale, normally I get the bondi's. These are almost as cushy, but still very comfortable and they have the same arch support as the bondi's. I would buy them again and highly recommend them.

I have a wide foot, as well as a high upper arch.
These things actually fit my big foot. When I got them out of the box, I thought holy cow those things look huge, I was worried about them being too wide.
This was not the case.
Plus they have a good support for my foot/arch.

I walk between 20-40k steps a day for cardiovascular health. These shoes are the most comfortable, plush, smooth transition from step to step, best walking shoes I've ever had. I will be a repeat customer. They fit me true to size.

As an elderly daily walker,I started with Bondi 8.It was a good walking shoe but the soles only lasted about 2 years. With Gaviota 5, I find the perfect balance between stability and comfort. Hope it last longer than the Bondi 8.
