when i purchased and wore the gaviota 4 , it was a dream come true. they were a little narrow up front but the comfort and support was amazing. I have flat feet and a problem back, I felt the 4 were perfect. then i tried the 5. the 5 was wider in the toe area but it was so very uncomfortable. please bring the former construction.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was very happy with the Graviota but was disappointed in the huge changes the last time I purchased it. I was wearing a wide before but now the toe box is so huge that I had a hard time finding the correct size and width. I had to order and return a couple times. This is the only shoe I wear because I have a foot issue and wear orthotics. I'm going into the 6 month on this pair and they have started squeaking loudly. I didn't have this issue with the previous style of the Graviota. These shoes are very expensive and only last about 6 months. I don't understand why this is the case when they cost so much.

Long time user of Hoka , the new Gaviota 5 is very odd looking with a sole very very wide like moon shoes . I have and have had numerous Gaviota 3 and 4 , the G5 does not fit me , too short and way too wide cheaply made. I recently had the Anacapa breeze that I got in my usual size and they were way too small. What is going on here hoka?

This is the floating boxcar, the land yacht, the Edsall of the running shoe world. The toe box is huuuuuuge. Makes you look like a kid wearing your fathers shoes, even when you're 70! This is radically different from the Gaviota 4, which I loved and wore every day for the last 3 years (owned 2 pair); so different Hoka shouldn't be allowed to call the 5 a Gaviota.
I'd also recommend:

New to the Gaviota family with the 4, awesome shoe. The 5 is not in the same league. Sloppy feel, strange pressure points, not nearly the support of the 4.

It took a long time to find the HOKA Gaviota 4 as a stable supportive replacement for the beloved Brooks Beast worn for 8 years. Brooks unsuccessfully tried to reinvent the wheel when they changed the support system in their best selling stability shoe. I am sad to say that HOKA has done the same by changing the exceptional J-frame support of the Gaviota 4 to a mushy, sometimes unstable H-frame in the G-5. In addition, believe the other reviewers who say the toe box is twice as big, which adds to the disaster of this shoe by allowing the foot to slip around and causes pain and an unbalanced walk/run. Hoka directs customer to the Arahi as a substitute for the Gaviota 4, but it is a poor substitute for someone who needs the stability and cushion. Arahi is a very aggressive arch support with little padding. If HOKA is listening, please bring back the Gaviota 4 which was the both of best worlds - perfect support/stability with perfect cushioning.

Very different from the 4 model. Much wider and thus created foot pain from rolling when getting up

I ordered this style shoes hoping that they would work for me on an upcoming trip in which I am going to do a fair amount of walking in different terraines. Overall the shoes run big and they don't have much cushion on the bottom.

The new design, touted as a "wider, more accommodating fit" is a flop. The forefoot area is now so wide that my feet slide side to side. The shoe feels loose. I wish it came in narrow. After 4 hours of wear, my heal, which is now the pivot point for the side to side yaw, is sore.

I've been a longtime buyer of the Gaviota. The 5 isn't as supportive as previous model. If you need the extra support, I'm not sure this is the right shoe for you. The width seems more narrow. Sizing I think is a little small.

After foot surgery I got a pair of Gaviota 4 that were very supportive and helped with my issues. I wore them out and bought a pair of Gaviota 5. They have little support in the toe box and are nothing like the 4s. I'm very disappointed.

Wore Gaviota 3& 4 for years. Loved them. The 5 is too wide ( my feet are on the narrow side) & not comfortable. I look like a clown in them. Why Hoka, why change something that worked. I'm desperately searching for gaviota 4's but no luck. Hoka please go back to the J frame which was not as wide.

I Work in the hospital and i normally wear these to work for 12 hour shifts, although i bought the Gaviota 4's a few years ago and those were amazing, they lasted for a while too. Unfortunately when Hoka released the Gaviota 5's they stopped selling the Gaviota 4's on the website. So i bought the 5's hoping they were going to be an improvementto the 4's even though i noticed the design was a bit different, i had hoped for an improvement, or atleast similar quality to the Gaviota 4's. Sad to say, the gaviota 5's are terrible, i had them for about 3 months total and havent even wore them daily and they hurt my feet badly. when walking they arent too bad, but my entire foot is in pain when wearing these and they didnt last long. i would never buy these again, i prefer the Gaviota 4's.

I own 3 pair of Gaviota 4 sneakers and needed to replace one. I could not find the same so ordered the Gaviota 5, very bad choice! fat front, very uncomfortable not anything like the previous ones, I wish HOKA would bring back the Gaviota 4 shoe

Gaviota 4 provided much more stability. This feels cheaper. It also hits my arch with the plastic in an uncomfortable way. Please go back to making the Gaviota more stable. These feel like the other models at this point, and I can’t wear them.

The shoe is like a boat. I ordered the same size I did for the Gaviota 4. The shoe is totally different as the toe box is at least 50% wider allowing the foot to slip around inside. When getting up from a sofa or low chair, the toe box rolls and causes pain on the side of the foot. I have a bruise on my left foot outside from this rolling. I compared these to my gaviota 4'sand they don't look like anything close to the same. Terrible redesign with injury possibilities from wearing them

The new model has a huge toe box that allows one’s foot to slip around in the shoe. If you bend your foot while getting up, the shoe crumples…..caused a huge bruise on my left foot. Compared to my gaviota 4 and toe box is ar least 50%larger. Defective design!

The toe bed has been made wider and feels sloppy. The shoe is so uncomfortable that I returned it. The Gaviota was the only HOKA shoe that had good arch support for my high arch. With the changes from the Gaviota 4 to the Gaviota 5, I have had to move away from HOKA all together.

I've been a huge fan of the Gaviota for many years, but the Gaviota 5 has taken the model down the wrong design path. The toe box is too wide, the "narrow" width feels too wide, and—most importantly—the shoe's sole is now too squishy, negating the stability I need and could once rely upon with the Gaviota. I had this same issue with the Brooks Adrenaline years ago when they changed their design, which led me to Hoka in the first place, but now I'm back where I started—stranded without a favorite shoe. Fortunately I was able to find a pair of Gaviota 4s on sale. I'd recommend stocking up if anyone has the same issue (and it looks like a few similar reviews are coming in). Please revert back to the previous design Hoka, the "improvements" are not improvements. Keep the "innovations" to color and textural tweaks, not structural and material changes. I'll check back when my Gaviota 4s wear out.

The initial models have the stability on the outside of the shoe, allowing you to lace them to your comfort, as well as not look like an extremely widen shoe. The decision to put the stability sidewalls on the inside make them less effective (long time lower back pain sufferer) but also make the outer look of the shoe similar to Ronald McDonald. Bad decision in two respects. Compared to the earlier versions, it offers less stability unless you lace it down until your foot goes numb, and the outer appearance makes you look like a carnival act. HOKA does a great lob of turning something that works into an updated model failure.

The new Gaviota 5 is NOT the same shoe. This would have been my 5th pair of Gaviotas so I'm not inexperienced with them. I ordered a 9.5 EE. They are extremely narrow. Have a much shallower heel cup that has no chance of controlling your heel. The laces are even shorter due to the less actual shoe. HUGE disappointment. My favorite shoe and now I may have to find another brand. Sad effort.

Have used Bondi before and they were good but I think the Gaviota has a little more support and are still very comfortable.
